[Friedman] Here’s PIT/EDM deal: Jarry & Poulin to Edmonton, Kulak, Skinner & 2029 2nd to Pittsburgh

  1. How anyone can be anything but ecstatic , let alone sad that Jarry is gone is beyond me. Did he come to your birthday party or something? Skinner has as much chance to reinvigorate his game here as Jarry has leading the Oilers to a cup. Come on. This is a huge W.

  2. This is an awful trade. Jarry has been looking phenomenal these past few weeks, he’s had some really bad stretches sure but let’s not forgot how good he can be when on. No reason that we are acquiring skinner he’s terrible and murashov should be in the nhl now with jarry gone. Kulak is another left handed depth defenseman that we don’t need. Just a bad trade all around.

  3. How was poulin looking? He had some pedigree, but obviously has not stuck. Any chance we miss him?

  4. Jarry has been….Jarry. Regardless it is kind of bittersweet to see him go. It’s been sort of wholesome almost to see him struggle then get his footing and then struggle and rinse and repeat. Idk I suppose i have a hard time rooting against him.

That being said I feel higher on Skinner than most, probably because he has one of the most glorious staches in the league.

  5. Not ecstatic but we also needed to do away with the Jarry contract so whatever. I do think our chances for playoffs this year diminished with this trade.

  6. Jarry has been playing better this season, but a couple of good months shouldn’t erase what we have all seen from him annually. Getting out of his contract early helps a lot.

Skinner and Kulak are UFA, so they can be flipped at the TDL or simply let go at the end of the year, no worry on that.

The pick is whatever, especially three years away lol. Poulin has been good for WBS, but was never going to amount to anything here.

Not necessarily a “win” of a trade, but it’s not really a “loss” either. The upside is that after this year, the path is clear for Murashov and/or Blomqvist to join the team.

  7. Man tough to see Jarry go from the emotional side but this is a great trade for us for the future! That second rounder can be deadline ammo if we turn things around fast or help the rebuild if it’s slow, and I think Skinner and Kulak are solid options for us to maybe keep the playoff hunt alive this year.

  8. Got rid of Jarry’s contract, Skinner and Kulak are expiring deal, and got a future second out of it.

  9. Jarry playing well is screwing up the tank. Skinner is not as bad as he was in Edmonton, and it gets us out of the contract. Nice trade

  10. Jarry to Skinner is as lateral a move gets except we don’t have that contract after this season. Plus we get an NHL defenseman and a pick for a bust prospect? This is a slam dunk A+ for Dubas

  11. It’s essentially trading for Kulak and a second.

This is not a deadline rental situation, where teams will give more than market value for the playoff push. Jarry is on contract til 27-28, and has had wild highs and lows in his career. He’s capable. He has been good lately. But Edmonton is thinking longer term to build a more thoroughly capable team for McDavid’s contract.

Taking Skinner is just part of it. Silovs has shown some growing pains, and I FULLY support letting Murashov cook for his first season in NA. Skinner won’t improve us, but we need an established NHL of any caliber to carry those minutes.

Kulak shores up the left D. We have a bunch, but beyond Wotherspoon and Shea being relatively consistent, that 3rd spot has been in flux. Graves is looking more confident, but skews towards offensive instincts, and we dont necessarily want that from our 3D. But cycling through Caleb Jones, Jack St. Ivany, or Dumba seems… meh.

If we were looking to get rid of Jarry’s contract, this was a win

  12. Jarry has had consistency issues, but what goaltenders doesn’t? They’re very few and far between goaltenders that are consistently great in this league. This team has not been a playoff team for a very, very long time even when we made the playoffs in the Covid years they weren’t going very far. In fact, I would even argue there were some years where they shouldn’t have even made it. This team has been so poor defensively for the last number of years and if Jarry hadn’t been injured in 2023, they would’ve beat the Rangers in the first round so for all of you who are saying “how far has he ever taken us in the playoffs”? This team hasn’t been good enough to make the playoffs for a very long time to even say that.
Many of you wanted to run Fleury out of here so quick it wasn’t funny. I used to always say if he played with a better defensive team in front of him, he would’ve won a number of Vezina trophies. Soon as Fleury left here guess what happened..yup.
i’m not comparing Fleury & Jarry i’m just pointing out that so many people in the fan base take the low hanging fruit argument & blame goaltenders. Not only was it a bad defense in front of Jarry night after night, but when he would have a solid game, he had sit the next one out because the goalie rotation philosophy. What’s the point of rotating goaltenders? why didn’t they just let him keep playing?
I don’t understand it it doesn’t make sense. I know there is a league wide ideology about rotating goaltenders, but i feel like it messes with a lot of goalie’s confidence & Jarry is one of those.

  13. Wow. Okay, Dubas. You keep fleecing people like this and I might start to like you

  14. Gained some respect for Kyle today. He let Jarry regain some trade value and struck while the iron was hot. He wasn’t fooled by the hot start. This bodes well for the future.

  15. Love it, as long as they didn’t retain anything on Jarry. Just woke up so idk what I’ve missed

  16. Sad to see both these guys go, but happy with the return. Both had super high potentials and a lot of excitement that didn’t ultimately pan out. C’est la vie.

  17. I cant believe we went from couldnt give jarry away last year to getting a second round pick and a defenseman for him. Now the kids can actually get the net and we can move on from the Jarry years. Absolutely a win

  18. I’m personally glad the Jarry saga is ending here. He was good more often than bad and got too much hate for generally quality play, but at the same time was so unbelievably unclutch in the biggest moments and just left too many bitter memories. Hope he keeps up his good play this season over there.

  19. As an Oilers fan you guys now have the tandem i was hoping for in the offseason.

    I fucking hate Stan Bowman

  20. Trading an untradeable player, for 2 you could potentially flip for more AND a 2nd. That’s a win in my eyes

  21. I’m not deep enough into the workings of the league to understand trading or the draft that well. I get how we can trade players for players, that makes sense. Can someone explain like I’m 5 how we can trade a player for a draft spot that is three years away? Are draft pick orders set that far out?

  22. Holy shit. Knew it was happening. Glad to see poulin get a shot somewhere else too. Had lots of chances here and we just knew it wasnt gonna work. Jarry has been great for us this season but lots of people still have a bad taste in their mouth over him. Hopefully going home and starting fresh is good for him and hopefully skinner getting out of Edmonton away from the noise helps him play solid here.

  23. if i saw right skinners on the last year of his contract too like flip him at the deadline if theres the right guys available and idk about kulak i hope the change of scenery will bring out the best in him… and we have 50 million in cap space lol so thats fun at least

  24. If this was last year, I would be so hyped. However, I’m actually a little sad about this right now.

Edit: That’s not to say I think this is a bad trade. Honestly, Dubas was cooking here, I just wanted to see Jarry play to his potential here.

  25. Oilers fan checking in – Skinner is going to go lights out in Pittsburgh – happens with every goalie we trade! One thing to keep in mind with him is, he wasn’t supposed to be “the guy” right now – it was supposed to be Jack Campbell and Skinner has been playing well above what he should be imo – he was thrown into the pressure cooker and helped get us to the Stanley cup finals two years in a row. He’s also still only 27, so still has a few years to really come into his own. Suspect now that he’s out of the Oilers spotlight, he’s really gonna shine. Hope he works out well for y’all!

  26. I think Skinner could be a good influence on Silvos.

Despite some inconsistency he can be really clutch. He’s good on the shootout (55.17% overall)

  27. It’s a fucking salary dumb. The crazy thing is if we made the deal in the offseason I would of loved it

  28. Stu kinda sucks but i’m not opposed to getting him in some games to see if he balls out with the change of scenery. Hope all the best for Jarzdawg.

  29. This is a great trade.

Dump Jarry’s salary that has 2 years left before his annual collapse.
Get an expiring replacement in Skinner
Get an LD upgrade for 3rd pair / depth
    Free 2nd
Clear a path for Murashov to get to the show next year

  30. I got woken up to a “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOUR PENGUINS DOING?!?” text so I figured something crazy happened.

I thought It was gonna be something awful but im actually kinda happy about this.
No salary retained on Jarry, W.
We have fantastic goalies in our pipeline and on the team now. W.
Poulin is gone to a new start and I hope he succeeds where he goes cause we was becoming less and less noticeable each game played here. W.
We couldn’t get a pack of hot dogs for Jarry in the past few years, and buddy just turns his game around, gets his mental and his skills in check and we get a 2nd rounder, a D man and a goalie swap. Thats a W.

I remember reading EDM didn’t want to give up Stu so they could run Jarry/Stu A1/A2. But here we are now with Stu a Penguin, a guy who’s had his own consistency problems but also helped that team go to back to back cup finals. Idk how much he “helped” but he still was apart of it.
Now let’s see what we do come deadline, see if either of those get flipped for more picks.

I hope both Poulin and Jarry have a wonderful showing in EDM. I want nothing but success for the both of them.
