[Passan] BREAKING: Third baseman Maikel Garcia and the Kansas City Royals are finalizing a five-year contract extension with a club option for a sixth year, sources tell ESPN. Garcia, 25, won a Gold Glove this year and will remain alongside Bobby Witt Jr. on the left side of the infield.

  1. Him and Bobby had one of the nastiest defensive combo games I’ve ever seen against us this year

Cool they are staying together for a long time

  2. Maybe the most underrated player in the game. Good on KC for locking up their young talent.

  3. It’s a breath of fresh air locking up some of our young pieces. The Royals of my youth, it was a foregone conclusion that anyone of value was going to get shipped off.

  4. Fully deserved it, finally turned a corner this year and looks to be a top 3 third baseman for many years to come. Royals getting that left side of the infield locked and loaded is amazing for them

  5. This gives me shades of the Andres Gimenez extension. Hopefully it works out better for Garcia.

  6. KC has the best left side of the infield in baseball for 5 years. Let’s see if they can take advantage.

  7. Good for him. Getting paid and security. And rewarded. And still be able to hit free agency at a decent age

  8. Good for them! Fans deserve better than their teams just being used as a vehicle for owners to pocket their revenue sharing handouts. Hope this inspires more teams outside of the usual handful to invest in trying to win!

  9. I have a confession to make. Up until I read the “25” in that headline, I thought that Maikel Garcia was the same person as Maikel Franco. I thought he just had a crazy late-career breakout last year

  10. I’m so fucking happy. Ive loved Maikel since 2023, and back then it was just cause he’s hot, now he’s hot and good and a Royal for years!

  11. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration that KC might have one of, if not the best left side of the infield in baseball

Now we just need some friggin outfielders
