Jamie Benn, Miro Heiskanen & Glen Gulutzan Recap Dallas Stars Loss vs. Minnesota Wild

[Applause] wall a little bit. Uh you know what I saw um I saw that a little bit in the making. You know, you you come through Winnipeg and then now Minnesota. Two great teams and uh you don’t play great in Winnipeg. Your special teams win you the game. Special teams were in effect today. Obviously, we got a shorty and a power play goal, but uh when you’re taking in that much water five on five, um you know, you know, you’re just not playing well. A little dip and I, you know, I think it was a little bit in the making. So, what do you see five on five that you can possibly change? Yeah, we we have to execute better. I you know, if if you look at the game, I thought that uh they just executed plays, especially through the neutral zone, a little bit better than we did. And uh you know once we got into the ozone I thought that that game was pretty equal with both teams um but just their execution through the neutral zone some of the oddman rushers they created um gives you momentum gives their top guys you know feeling good when they make those type of plays and we we we just didn’t make enough. Um so I I I think uh you know one of the big things we talked about this morning was execution and um I just thought they were much better than us uh through the through the neutral zone. What more can you say about Jake Gotener? Yeah, he was fabulous. I mean, that’s why the game stayed 2-2 for as long as it did. And uh um you know, at one point, you know, 25 to nine or 10 or shots, whatever it was, but uh you know, not not good enough, but he’s the guy that kept us um kept us afloat. Uh only first short-handed goal of the season. Is that surprising at all? You know, I I think early on we took in a lot of uh goals early and we were just trying to get it stabilized and has done a fabulous job getting it stabilized. So, you know, a little less on the table was, you know, trying to push offense. Um, obviously that’s a faceoff goal and it happens. But, you know, our penalty kills been stingy as as for the last, you know, 15 games. Yes. So, um, we’re we’re good there. We’re not trying to score uh, you know, uh, five verse four. Um, you know, we’re trying to get the penalty killed and try to get on the power play, but we just didn’t generate enough. You guys have been on such a good role. how you just it’s one night. Uh but it wasn’t they seem to be the better team and that happens sometimes. Yeah, I think uh probably got what we deserved tonight. Um you know, I thought uh Jake was great in there. Um made a lot of big saves for us. Um you know, but um just wasn’t a a good enough 60-man effort. Uh what have you seen as far as can you learn from the game that things you can improve on? The schedule doesn’t slow down at all. So if you’re just going to flip around and play another one? No. Um you know just move on and um you know learn quick uh figure out what we can do better and get ready for the next one. Uh what about Jake? Obviously he wanted to play well in this building. He was fantastic especially early on. Yeah, it’s uh you know it’s unfortunate we didn’t give him a a better effort. Um, you know, but like, uh, every night he plays, um, you know, uh, did such a great job in there. You just hit a a bump in the road. Oh, yeah. Yeah, for sure. But, you know, of course, we want to be better than that, and, you know, Jay gave us a chance to win, but just uh didn’t play good enough to win and and that’s how how it goes. How tough is it when you do have a goal disallowed? Does it change momentum a lot? Um, I mean, doesn’t really matter. Shouldn’t matter. It’s uh, you know, of course it’s a big goal if if it counts. But, um, shouldn’t really matter. Uh, you know, get disallowed and, you know, we should should keep playing and and try to score another one. But, yeah, just couldn’t do that today. Can you learn anything from a game like this? Uh, yeah. I mean, we know we have to be better than that and, you know, almost everywhere on the ice, you know, have to work work harder and earn the earn everything, you know, scoring chances and goals and, you know, just have to be better. I think that was your first short-handed goal as a team this year. Is that a little surprising? Um, yeah. I mean, I think we have used have usually scored pretty uh you know, a lot of short-handed goals, but it’s uh uh you know, goes goes that way sometimes, but you know, I think PK was probably one of the only good things tonight and um that was good. What was Minnesota doing so effective to keep you guys kind of to the outside and shut you down? Um I mean, they’re a good team. uh they’re working hard and and playing hard and just have to, you know, find a ways to uh get to their zone and and play there more and uh couldn’t do that tonight.
