Making threes is big in the NBA. Garrison Mathews does that and helps in other ways for the Pacers.
making threes is in fact super valuable in the NBA. And the game I always point to with him is what where I noticed he was really providing something beyond just made shots is when they beat Chicago in that tight game where Siaku hit the gamewinner. Matthews only played eight minutes that night. He went 0 for three from deep. if you have a chance or you have the capabilities, go back and watch that game because something else happened in that game that really made Matthew Matthew spacing stand out. And that is that Jay Huff went crazy crazy in the first quarter of that game, right? Jay Huff had 14 points to start the game. He had the first 14 points of the game for the Pacers and the Bulls just left him wide freaking open the whole time. Like they did not care about him in the pick and pop. They did not care about him when he was spacing and he made them pay and he splashed in shots. Garrison Matthews came in the game and the Bulls were like, “Do not leave that guy at all.” And that’s because prior to his Pacer struggles, which did happen again, Matthews admitted to these, this is not some surprise to anyone. He was a lights out three-point shooter.
