Lane Thomas signs with Kansas City Royals (REACTION)
Guardians postseason hero Lane Thomas has signed with the Kansas City Royals. In Royals fans, you probably know a bit about him already being that he was a division rival for the past two years with the Guardians. He also came up as a Cardinals prospect. That being said, he is one of the most confusing players in MLB. Despite having all the tools to be a 20 home run, 30 stolen base guy, Lane Thomas has yet to put it together at the major league level. And despite being one of the fastest players in MLB and having one of the best arms from the outfield in MLB, he’s a below average defender. That’s not saying he hasn’t been productive at times. He’s definitely a streaky hitter. When he’s hot, he’s hot. We saw that in the postseason with Cleveland in 2024. Two massive home runs for them. He’s also got a pretty decent eye at the plate. But in 2025, things looked bleak for Lane Thomas. He looked lost up there at times at the plate. And I know he was dealing with a bunch of injuries and no shade to the guy, but as a Guardians fan and seeing that the Guardians have absolutely no production from the right-handed side of the plate at all offensively, I wasn’t even too keen at bringing Lane Thomas back, and that should say a lot. Even saw him play at Akran during a rehab start and I know he’s coming back from injury, but it did not look good. Kansas City, I do not think this is the center fielder you have been looking for. I don’t think he’s defensively good enough to play center field, especially in Kaufman Stadium. I do think that he could be a decent corner outfielder for the Royals, just because he has such good tools. He just needs to put it all together. I don’t doubt that there’s going to be a month in 2025 where Lane Thomas could look like the best signing of the off season. But I think that the majority of the time, it’s not going to look great. All in all, speaking as a Guardians fan, Lane Thomas, thank you for the memories. That 2024 postseason run was special.
