I truly don’t understand how Keefe has not been fired yet. I know he’s meant to be a place over coach for the next one to take over once we have more development… but it’s hard to argue these guys are developing as much as they could when you look at the horrible offensive and defensive systems in place. And don’t even get started on the rotations lol
Absolutely no surprise here for those of us torturing ourselves by watching the Wiz.
I’m fine with people saying that Keefe is here to drive the tank for this one season, because this season we need to keep our draft pick at all costs.
But GOD the people who don’t think he’s a bad coach are so wrong imo. We are bad because we have a bad roster and we have a bad coach who is slowing down the development of all our players. We literally just play less hard than every other team in the league and players are left on an island both on offense and defense bc there isn’t a strong coaching scheme. We literally are forcing Tre Johnson to create shots with the ball in his hands instead of creating 3s for him from off-ball movement. People keep saying “oh we have good you g defensive players” – fuck no. How do you reconcile that with being the worst defensive team in nba history? What they mean to say that is we have athletic young players with size and defensive potential who go for blocks and steals but are bad defenders because nobody has ever coached them how to play defense in the NBA.
– Nets, disaster roster just as bad as ours. Jordi Fernandez took the job, won 20 games by February, and forced the team to sell at the trade deadline. He can’t help that their FO had a draft disasterclass but even then he has Danny Wolf playing like a good NBA rotation player who honestly would probably start on this wizards team. Also, they are in the top half of the league (on this chart) in defensive efficiency w cripple MPJ as their best player. Also they have double our wins.
– Suns, minus Devin Booker (who has been injured), a roster just as bad as the wizards. Jordan Ott has them 14-11 in the Western conference. They seemed like they had no future prospects at all but developed Collin Gillespie into a real player. They play hard as hell, we do not.
– Jazz, Will Hardy also hired to drive a tank. They are probably the closest situation to us, and their winning is driven mostly by by Markonnen, but they still have young players who would be a really rotation player on a winning team like Keyonte George and Walker Kessler.
I just think you can tank while still having a good coach who can help develop young players. Sure, keep Keefe until the second the lottery ball drops, but if keep him after this season this team won’t sniff 20 wins as long as he’s here.
