Does anyone know why the old fluery and binnington fight wasn’t allowed?

  1. The owners reeeally don’t want to see these guys fight and the zebras have been told to do what they have to do to protect their health. I’m sure the goalies have all been told the same.

  2. There seems to be a mandate from the league (and has been for a few years) discouraging goalies from fighting. I would love to know the rationale, it doesn’t seem to make sense.

  3. Ray Emery.

That dude loved to fight, and he was really good at it. At some point, the league decided that letting very expensive weirdos a.k.a. goalies pound on each other while wearing ridiculous amounts of protective gear wasn’t in the best interests of the teams that were paying them the money. Shortly thereafter, it seems like referees were instructed to interrupt or prevent goalie fights.

  4. Refs are supposed to break up fights where players don’t have helmets. Goalies can’t fight without helmets. It’s why players get in shit and can’t remove their helmet before a fight.

  5. The NHL doesn’t mind fight but they think that the optics or a goalie fight is bad for the league.

You could have a line brawl with players commiting war crimes against each other and one or both linesmen are gonna get between the tendies

  6. Cause goalie fights are avoided at all costs.

One of them has to cross the red to fight, which leads to them getting tossed. That team is now left with a goalie that has no backup. If an injury happens then you have to instantly go to an EBUG. No one wants that to happen.

The risk isn’t worth it, goalies are too important.

  7. The referee knew that the thousands of people in attendance and watching from home, came to see him as the star of the show.

  8. Fighting is against the rules and the lineys saw an opportunity to prevent some good ol rule breaking

  9. No idea, especially since I heard from a very reliable source that it would be good and would get the crowd going a bit.

  10. Goalies are a franchise cornerstone. the owners don’t want them to fight and potentially get injured

  11. Goalies are banned from fighting.
Due to if he gets hurt and the back up has to come in, you only have 1 Ebug now if some twat crashes yout back up.

  12. Because there’s a difference between fighting and knowing how. People don’t realize these guys practice how to stay upright when a dude is ragdolling your sweater.

Simply put, they didn’t want Fluery getting seriously hurt

  13. I don’t think it has anything to do with the league not wanting a goalie fight. Binnington was already getting tossed for a game misconduct before him and Fleury started going at it.

  14. Refs are instructed to stop goalie fights.

Goalie fights would involve other penalties and possibly suspensions. Someone already said the helmet rule but also leaving the crease to join an altercation would be a penalty.
