I don’t think we would have been competitive with their desire for a center, but maybe it would have been a first, KK, Legault, and FUS?
Personally I think we would have created more holes than fixed by getting him. Obviously one of the best defensemen in the league, but who would we have to give up to get him?
A lot of people mentioned svech, but then we’re losing our only big body on our top two lines, and we still don’t have a center. We would have to get rid of some defensemen; probably not Walker or Chatty, they’re our only RHD (unless we count Nystrom). If we did get rid of one of them, now we have 5 LHD. Which of Quinn and Slavin are playing their off hand? Would it affect their abilities at all?
It just didn’t make sense to me.
Equivalent for us would have been Nadeau, Stankoven, Nikishin and a 1st

Glad its not New Jersey or Washington, but I feel like we could have easily made that kind of deal. If he was a right shot I would say its a no brainer, but it makes sense not to want to give up a lot for another LD. But still, would have been nice

This is fine. We need a 2C, not another defenseman. We only have the cap space for one of those, and IMO a 2C is far more pressing.
Unless Vancouver was having a Christmas sale, it never made sense for the Canes.
Would he have been great to have? Sure. But I don’t think it would actually make the team that much better.
