  1. I was so upset when Ruben let him walk. He was the best protection Howard ever had in the lineup.

  2. Honestly, Schwarber. I’m like why are we committing to a .240 hitter who can maybe hit 30 home runs. If I only knew.

  3. Jake Arrieta for me. Knew the deal was awful as soon as it happened, but kept deluding myself into optimism. Turned out as expected in the end.

  4. The entire 2007/08 offseasons. Including the trade deadlines in those years. Not a big name in all of those signings.

  5. Jeff Francouer. I just remembered him being a good player for the Braves and Mets, and his most memorable moment of hitting into the unassisted triple play, but he had been struggling to stay in the majors in recent seasons. I think I was hoping for the right pieces for what was going to be the last chance for the 2008 core, instead we got this washed up ex-Met/Brave guy.

He ended up having a decent enough season for that lousy team, but what I remember most is how likable the guy was. And he was the centerpiece of one of that season’s most memorable incidents, the waving of the white towel.

He won me over with his effort, positive attitude, and overall goofiness, even if his playing results were about average.

  6. I was all in on Werth because my buddy and I picked him up in franchise mode in MVP baseball the previous year and he was the GOAT.

  7. Anyone else here absolutely stoked when they brought in Lance Parrish?

I remember Michael Jack campaigned for him. I thought the sky would be the limit!

  8. Recently it was Schwarber. I did not like that signing(thee 1st time) I can’t always be right. I also didn’t like the Castellanos signing so…

  9. I’m glad Jay-son was able to go to DC and get paid. He was one of those players nobody really resented after leaving because we still had our core and he won us a WS so seeing him get paid everyone just said good for him. I hear he’s a big horse-racing owner these days.

  10. I’d embracing to admit but Zach Wheeler.

I saw a guy that had a serious injury and was going to be 30 coming off seasons with a 5+ an 4+ ERA and a bunch of HRs sign a long term big money contract for a team coming off back to back .500ish seasons.

I just didn’t see the value in it.

It’s good to be wrong sometimes.

  11. Not an off season signing, but when Sabathia was available mid-season and we ended up trading for Joe Blanton after CC went to the Brewers. The rest is beautiful beautiful history.

  12. I loved the Werth signing because I remember he had raked against the Phillies the year before. He hit 2 HRs in one game, including a game-tying HR in the bottom of 9th off of Tim Worrell. I hated Tim Worrell.

  13. Carlos Santana.

How the Phillies saw Rhys breakout with his bat and his outfield play the year prior and say yeah we can just hide Rhys is the outfield still defies logic.
