(Rogers) Maikel Garcia’s five-year contract extension is worth a guaranteed $57.5 million, source tells MLB.com, though the club option and escalators in the deal can get it into the $85 million range

  1. 4 of the 5 years are ARB years, he was slated to make 4.8M, even with 4M raises a year, thats 45M across arbitration

  2. Not a bad deal. Also gives an idea of what they can give Vinnie in his extension. $50 to $55 million with escalators up to $75 million. No gold glove but 97 rbis last year and 100+ this year. Should’ve been team leader last year if he didnt get hurt late.

  3. Not a bad deal! Glad he’s locked up for the future.

Also PragerU jump scare at the bottom of the screenshot lmao

  4. I mean in FA it’s about $9 million per 1 WAR these days. I know this is for largely ARB years, but considering that per WAR metric is likely to increase over time (unless we get a salary cap), even if this is an outlier year for Maikel’s batting capability, this is a fantastic value for his glove and what even “average” batting value is from home. Plus, good for Maikel — sets him up for another solid FA deal at 32-33 y/o if he’s still playing well.
