32 Thoughts: Everything we know about Quinn Hughes and the Canucks

> Vancouver has to get this right. I’ve heard the ask is very high, as it should be. One exec told me it is “outrageous.” I replied, “Probably not outrageous enough.” He laughed.
> **A young, impactful centre is very important to them. A deal is not impossible without one, but it will require something special to offset that desire.**
> Not impossible they wait until the draft, preferring no deal than a bad deal. **But all of this noise exists for a reason. Talks are underway.**
> New Jersey is obvious. I’ve been on Detroit for a while. Washington is around, but I don’t think the Canucks can snare the Capitals’ best young players. I know there’ve been suggestions about the Rangers, but I don’t see the trade match. **Philadelphia doesn’t have the centre, so what else can the Flyers come up with?** I mentioned Pittsburgh, but a few sources pooh-poohed this brainstorm.

This is Briere’s moment to shine. He wanted to rebuild in a way that requires trading for a 1D. Here it is.
Will it be difficult? Yes. Are the cards stacked against the Flyers? Probably. But we knew all that was a risk when Briere chose not to tank. No excuses now.
Their lack of legit Cs is absolutely killing them in so many ways. They’ll have to offer a huge package involving multiple prospects (Luchanko, Bonk, Bump) + 1sts to beat out teams offering legit young Cs & D & even that may not be enough.
I had legitimate hope for awhile in them getting Hughes but it feels like a pipe dream honestly. Simply can’t match what other teams will offer.
York, Luchanko, Barkey, Flyers 2026 1st, 2027 1st, and Torontos 2027 1st
Unless another team jumps and gives up the ghost too soon, this situation will just keep getting more desperate. He’s not going to resign in Vancouver. They will have to move him. Each day that goes by will apply more pressure to their GM. All the teams know it.
Flyers fan here. Dont consider it as he is going to NJ to
Play with the brothers. End of story. Look at the Sundins – only goal was to play together. Same with the Tkachuks.
If he’s not 100% going to re-sign here then any deal would be a complete waste of assets. I assume that his next preferred long term destination is NJ. And until I’m given reason to believe otherwise, then there’s no reason to give this any further thought.
I just cannot see a scenario where we don’t have to give up Martone in a trade like this especially given our current center depth and lack of high end center prospects.
I don’t think they’ll get anywhere near what they want, given that he’s not eligible for an extension yet and that he’s rumored to want to go to NJ as a free agent.
No team is going to mortgage their future for a rental, unless it’s a cup contender where the short term benefits are greater than the long term risk.
The Canucks would be better of dealing him in July when a team can negotiate a long term extension with the trade
The only way I’m Danny and even considering it would be a sign and trade option where he’s already agreed to a handshake long term deal but I’m not sure the NHL even allows that.
I’m not one to trade a 5 for 1, it seems destructive to your depth but honestly where is this team going without a top center & defender? We have several nice defenders but no top elite talent guys, and a super collection or 2nd line centers, where are we legitimately going with this?
I’m not one to move Michkov, but again look at the collection of wingers we have, & all 2nd line centers.
They see Zegras as a LW, & if signed long term
we’ll lock up Konecny, Zegras, Tippett, presumably Michkov & Forester, with Couturier.
That’s 5 wingers & 1 2nd line center.
Something has to break & where/how else will they get top level skill at center?
The power play alone shows what happens when you have 2nd line this, lower top 6 that, lower top 4 D, & you struggle offensively.
