[Victor Wembanyama] on who’s the best player in the NBA: “Jokic is the best offensive player… I don’t think he’s the best player. I think it’s between Giannis and Shai. When I come back on the court, I think it’ll be me.”

  1. people freaking out too much, this is exactly the amount confidence a guy like this should have.

  2. Idc, Jokić’s proven to us and the people who’ve watched him through the years that he’s the best player of this decade, Wembanyama’s opinion doesn’t matter to me.

  3. Wembenyama could win a championship and win back 2 back mvps a finals mvp and still have to play catch up to Jokic. There has been a lot of two way freaks as Giannis and Shai, but we’ve only seen ONE Jokic.

  4. Does anyone remember Terrance Trent Darby? Talented late 80’s singer who said he was going to bigger than both Micheal Jackson and Prince? Had a great first album. Remember him? Keep talking Victor.

  5. No matter how cool he may appear to be, at the end of the day he must remind us all that he is indeed still French.

  6. He is a defense first player and his offensive stats aren’t great and haven’t improved since his rookie season so of course he will praise the defense players. Having a team full of defensive players is more important than the star player playing defense.

  7. that’s fair

A historic dominant defensive player will always give more credits to two way dominant forces compared to one way dominance

saying jokic is the best offensive player is already enough.

In terms of two way dominance
sga and giannis have the advantages

but interms of pure offense noone is close to jokic in this league and has will been like this since 2020

  8. I like wemby but just as we’ve seen from plenty of other current and former players, just because you play in the nba doesn’t mean you know ball.

Also I always took him for being more of a humble guy. If you told me ant said this, I wouldn’t question it

  9. So much of the Denver nuggets subreddit is just people obsessing over whether other people are properly idolizing and praising Nikola Jokic. It’s fucking weird. Like it’s not good enough to just be a fan and enjoy watching the basketball games. Every time someone makes a comment about how good Jokic is it has to be pinned and appraised. Someone said Jokic is the best let’s make a new thread about it. This person only puts Jokic in their top 15, let’s bitch about it. It’s a bunch of weirdo crybabies that are constantly throwing a fit that every person in the basketball world is not bowing at the alter of Jokic. It’s extreme and off-putting.

  10. “when I come back” will be Wemby’s words every season as he will always get injured.

  11. Out of all of them, Jokic seems to be the only one who hasn’t called himself the best. That statement is enough of a statement.

  12. the people pissed about this statement care far too much about the trash talk that’s just a natural part of competition. there should be more trash talk in the league, imho.

this isn’t even a bad take. wemby’s a defensive player, of course he’s going to favor defense.

so he has an opinion, let’s see if he can back it.

  13. If Jokic is the best offensive player, then wtf does SGA have over him to be a better overall player?

  14. The thing is, SGA doesn’t impact the game enough defensively for this to be a valid argument. He’s a solid defensive player on an elite defensive team. He doesn’t really draw any tough assignments most of the time and he’s not really known for locking people down. He’s not in the same league as Giannis. And the thing with Giannis is he isn’t really in the same league with Jokic offensively. So that leaves you with which player has the greatest impact on their team winning games? All of the advanced stats still point to Jokic. It is what it is. I don’t care much about these comparisons, but the best player is the one that has the greatest impact on the game when they’re in the game. Whether they do it offensively or defensively doesn’t matter.
