Why does Tyler Steen always stand looking back at Jalen Hurts before every snap. Does that not tip the other team off when he does crouch down for the snap????

  1. are you new to watching football? no shade! just curious because this question has come up a lot lately.

this is how a silent count is performed in the nfl, steen checks that jalen is ready for the snap and then signals jurgens by waving his hand or tapping him to snap the ball. common practice in the nfl and not a new thing at all.

  2. Silent count. Tbh, i think the bigger procedural issue is how late in the play clock everything is getting snapped. It’s ridiculous.

  3. I saw the picture before the caption and I was like “yeah why are we in the shotgun?” … then I saw the caption and comments and realized it was a different gripe.

  4. Are you new to watching football? This is how teams snap the ball in loud environments. It’s been this way for a very long time. I’ve been watching since about 2005 and have always seen this

  5. Because that’s how the eagles do a silent cadence. He watches for hurts to lift his leg then signals to the center. Becton did it last year, steen did it when he was in for becton last year, jurgens did it in 2023 when he was guard, seumalo did it before that.

Many other teams do too, it works. The problem is when they wait until there’s one second left.

  6. This isnt the issue. Every team does this. Just because he hits Cam doesn’t mean the snap is coming immediately. The snap comes immediately with the Eagles because they play clock is always about to expire. That’s the real issue.

  7. Jfc guys

This is just how some teams execute the silent count. We did it the exact same way with Becton last year

And BTW you can still fake the snap with this particular way to run a silent count. The guard touches the center and gets into his stance but they don’t snap it, and then the guard stands up and does it all again.

The fact that this post has 150 upvotes really shows how the average fan don’t know even the simplest shit

  8. Aside from it being a silent count. I think the majority of us can agree. It’s still schematically an issue being so far off the line of scrimmage for a 3RD AND TWO! Why aren’t we under center? 🥹

  9. I know this is common in the NFL these days. My question is, doesn’t this forfeit a major advantage the o-line has over the d-line? Getting a split-second head start on pushing because you know when it’s going to be snapped and they don’t?

  10. You people have no clue what you’re watching. They’ve been doing it for years and teams around the league do this pretty regularly

  11. they drew a neutral zone infraction against the Chargers by not snapping it after Steen crouched

  12. How are professional offensive guards calling the snaps? wtf? Bring back the days where lineman actually knew how to count and face the defense.

  13. I know it’s probably standard operating procedure, but when Steen turns around before every snap, I feel like he’s looking back and saying “wait, what are we supposed to do here?”

  14. I just have to say, it astounds me how many times this question gets asked here. Feels like every week I see a good number of them. Especially considering this is hardly something new. Been doing so for years now.

  15. If you ask PFF, Tyler Steen is too 10 OL in the league.

If you ask your eyes, Tyler Steen SUCKS.

  16. **Why doesn’t Dickerson just use a center stance to see the snap signal?**

    # *Is every football offense stupid?*

  17. I’ve seen a lot of people making excuses about this being a standard silent count, and how it’s necessary when you’re playing away in a loud stadium:

    1) we do this at home
    2) we did this against the Chargers who are known for having their stadium taken over by away fans
    3) this is a separate issue, but we consistently snap it with no time left on the clock so the defense can time it perfectly

  18. 3rd and 2 out of the shotgun ! I am a nobody but teams getting away from snapping under center in short yardage situations kills me ! Better yet an empty backfield on 3rd and short lol
