Greatest Trick Plays in Eagles History

This could decide the game. Fourth and goal. And they’re going to snap it. And it’s Trey Burton who throws caught. Foss touchdown. How do you figure? They go to the very, very, very back of the playbook for the touchdown. Trey Burton, a college quarterback. And watch all the action. Bulls is going to sneak over here. Direct snap. Everybody comes up. And here we go. What a play call by Doug Peterson. This play call has a chance to be remembered as one of the all-time greats. Just going for it. He’s a guy that the last guy you think of would be a professional athlete when you see him. There’s a fake. Don, look at this. The Eagles on the run. One man to beat. The block is there and Dawkins flying into the end zone. And so Andy Reed, a master of trick plays that results in a 57 yd touchdown and blows the game wide open to Brian Mitchell. He’s going to run it, but it’s a shovel pass and you see there almost goes down. Dawkins almost can’t keep his feet enough to catch the ball, but he guess has the speed to get to the end zone. It’s a foot race and they caught the Texans totally unaware and it’s a You think all 10 of them know what’s coming out? It looks like a long play call. That can’t be. Well, it is. Play clock winding down. You should say you know what to do on one. Ready. Oh, they chip it up. Saquon Barkley. They fool everyone. He walks in. Touchdown Philadelphia. Maybe that was why the play call was a little bit longer. like he was getting a few extra words out of his mouth. He tried to defend it. You see all the bodies and then it’s just a little counter sweep off of it. Herz has had two pretty easy touchdown throws today and Squan. Yeah, that one is probably as easy as it was in walkthrough the night before the game. Number 92. First and 10 at the 25 yd line. And a pass behind the line of scrimmage to Mitchell so he can throw it. Andy will. And leaping up is Westbrook. And he takes it away from Thomas with a touchdown right out of the schoolyard. Oh, in the heck drew that one up. And he’s going to throw it out here behind the line of scrimmage in a lateral. Now, now after you have a lateral, then you can have another forward pass or a forward pass. And then you’ve got the linebacker Thomas on Westbrook. Great grab, great concentration, and Philly has the lead again. The Eagles are six for eight on third down. Flee Flicker. Foss launches downfield. Smith touchdown. [Applause] We talked about it coming into this game. Tory Smith, they’ve had a hard time this year really getting him involved in the deep balls. And you see that he slow plays it coming off the line. He takes off Harrison Smith. Normally he has the range to make this play. This picked it even made it to the field. No option. Look at this. Looking downfield. Westbrook let it go. And right on the money. Yeah. Here’s Westbrook the only tail back. Little quarterback option. Now McNab has to be the lead blocker, but he’s not. Well, that ball was thrown perfectly. Yeah, without Dante Stalworth. Basket and Brown are the wide outs. The hand off to Buck Halter. Flee Flicker on the first play. McNab going deep for Reggie Brown. He makes the catch inside the 15 yd line of the 49ers. Here’s a playaction fate. Buck Coulter in the back field perfectly executed. And then McNab left off right where he performed in that first half last week against the Giants without Dante Stalworth today in the lineup. Look for Reggie Brown to be the go-to guy all afternoon. That’d be a big blow. Two running backs out the fake to Boston. Scott to the end zone. Touchdown. Lane Johnson the right tackle. Is he going to get up there? Can he? Oh, he can’t get up there. Is that a Is that a link leap? [Applause] Oh man, I love it. They’re all having fun. Lane Johnson, he just hiding out right there. Act like you’re blocking. Act like you’re blocking. Oh, whip around. Eligible receiver. Oh, look at that. High step. This guy was hitting him from 60 yds out in warm-ups, but this is for real. And this is from 50. He’s one for two. And it’s a fake complete. And they pull it off. Chad Lewis puts the okey dope on the Arizona Cardinal defense and Denny Green can’t believe it. Then again, maybe he can because Chad Johnson is over here as the upback. He is just going to peel across the formation and then just get out in the flat and Demer throws him a perfect strike. Acres tries an onside kick to start the season. Yeah, I saw that thing coming the way that he started. He started over on the right hash mark and and he came all the way across and he just hit that thing and the and the Cowboys were expecting the the return and they all started back. Watch you’ll see him coming in here right here. And the way he hits us and see the Cowboys, they all start running back and the Eagles get up there. The ball, remember on an onside kick, the ball has to go at least 10 yardds before the kicking team can recover it. It went 12 and Damen Douglas came up with it and it’s first and 10 Philadelphia. McCoy is the back to him. Vick rolling throwing caught touchdown wide open is Todd Harammans who lines up as an eligible receiver and the guard with a touchdown. Party time in Philadelphia tonight when an offensive lineman scores a touchdown. This will be good. And he’s going to block block on Anthony Spencer. Get him out there. Spencer’s trying to grab him. He knows he’s trying to get out. And then Mike Vic hits him right between the seven and the nine. Make it just stuck. And it’s going to be played action. And McNav will get the touchdown. And he gets it to the lineman who is eligible for the score. Todd Herman. Todd Herammans. Here he is looking at the ball. blocks, blocks, and then slips off. And an offense that has struggled all year long down on the goal line relies on their starting left guard to get him a key touchdown to put him in the lead here against Seattle. Braden man will come on the three and out for the Eagles. Man, who replaced Aaron Sippos week three as the Philadelphia puncher done a nice job. The dangerous turpin back deep. It’s going to be a throw and wide open to the completion is Alvin Zakius to the 40 and the 38 yd line. So the Eagles go with the trick play. Michael play their special teams coordinator and one up his sleeves. The completion by Braden man. It’s one of the problems when you put a wide receiver out there as the gunner. He didn’t have a lot of experience in trying to cover anybody and you can see just how wide open Sakias was ready for Dallas and then he was into the day and before he knew it the day was over. Here’s a fake fake below Acres gets the first down. Acres had it but he thought he’d dive at the end of it to make sure. Knocked Acres out of bounds. Now that’s Ky Demer, the holder, and he’s running the old college option. And look at Acres dive. He’s trying to make up for that missed tackle and the kickoff return. And remember two years ago, Pat, you did that game opening day Dallas and Philadelphia. He started that game off with an onside kick. Y third down and five. McKinley went off the field. Derek Shelby comes in in hisstead. And now you got a little razledazzle. And Agalore is going to throw the ball. The foes play of the night. Gee, where have we seen that before? I have no idea. But I remember Tony Dunie talking to Doug Peterson in the pregame. He asked him if he had another Philly special up his sleeve. He said, “I played the fifth.” Well, the fifth just picked up a first syndrome with Jake being close. Acres to attempt the 50 y, his longest this season for three. And they fake it. And he got it. There goes Acres with the first down. Pat Tilman finally got him, but not until Acres picks up 15 and a fresh set of downs. He goes to the other team. Look at that. That was a nice flip. That was a nice That was sweet. Boy, Denver the holder. That’ll be on some highlight reels for a while. Little over the shoulder job. Watch this. Scoop. Blind. Blind. Yeah. the picket line. They built confidence and closeness during that period and a victory here today over Dallas certainly will only improve that. Now Cunningham’s going to throw it to Cook and it is a flag down on the incompletion in the end zone. Two seconds remain on the clock. Francis had the coverage for the Cowboys and the Eagles will have the ball at the one. And the Eagles are if if you ask Buddy Ryan, did you try and rub it in? I don’t think there’d be any question. Absolutely. He did. No twist Bush formation just yet. A little flip out here to Gunnard who’s going to walk in for a touchdown. [Applause] Jaylen Herds a two-yd touchdown pass to Dallas got it and the Eagles off to a flying start. They just line up in a little diamond formation. He’s basically protected and then he just pitches it. I don’t know if that’s a lateral, a touchdown pass. Like a quarterback I’m counting as a touchdown pass. It’s a touchdown pass. [Applause]

  1. The best one ever was when Kevin Curtis laid down in the end zone during a kickoff and was meant to catch a lateral from the kick returner. It was ruled an illegal forward pass but if it wasn't, it would have been maybe the best trick play in NFL history.

  2. Eagles fan: do you think Nick Sirianni will have a short of a leash than chip kelly and doug pederson? These post SB collapses are obviously pissing off Lurie
