Are the Texans ACTUALLY Super Bowl Contenders?

The Houston Texans are the scariest team in the AFC after beating and essentially eliminating the three-time reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs on the road in Kansas City on Sunday Night Football. And it’s clear none of y’all, myself and Joe included, and my Patriots included want to face the Houston Texans come playoff time. And where Demo Ryan is a great head coach, he’s coaching his ass off. Okay, C.J. Straoud has proven he can win playoff games in the postseason. And this team might have as much playoff experience as anyone in the AFC outside of Buffalo right now. The real reason you’re scared is because your offense is going to have to face the best defense in football. I can give you the stats. Normally, Joe, I’m a stats guy, okay? I say a lot of freaking stats, but let me save you the time. It’s either first or top five in literally everything in the NFL. They are good at everything. Stopping the run, stopping the pass, sacks, turnovers, whatever you name, they’re really good at it. And for the playoffs, that’s going to feature a few really, really young quarterbacks like Drake May and Bon Knicks and some other quarterbacks that we’ve seen have turnover issues, especially in the playoffs, like Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, and Trevor Lawrence, and maybe a quarterback that’s just too damn old. And Aaron Rogers, this is the type of defense that could get hot and potentially carry a mediocre offense like the Texans offense is to the Super Bowl. Joe, I think this is a legitimate Super Bowl threat in the AFC. These Houston Texans are dangerous. So Joe, how big a threat are the Houston Texans in the AFC and do you see them winning the AFC South now? Uh, you know, so it’s kind of crazy you bring up the AFC South because there are two teams currently in the that if the playoffs started today have a strength of schedule above 500 and a strength of victory of 460 or higher. That’s the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a higher strength of schedule than the Jaguars, but their strength of victory is only four is a 440, whereas Jaguars 462. So, Houston Texans winning the South, they’re they’re a game back right now. Um, their schedule isn’t overly hard, but the Jagsville Jaguars have a very easy schedule, especially with the Daniel Jones injury because we were looking at them splitting with the Colts. Now, we’re not so sure. Uh, obviously the Colts have regressed a little bit, but back to the Houston Texans here. Yeah, they’re a major threat in the AFC right now. If the playoffs start today, they are going to New England, right? And New England’s defense is good, but that is not a game that I’m confident the Patriots are going to win just because of how good the Houston Texas defense is, how good the pass rush is, especially when you look at some of the injuries on the offensive line in New England right now and how healthy they’ll be going into the playoffs. So, the worst game that could possibly be is Denver versus Houston because those are two really good defenses. And I think that game would be boring as hell because both offenses are just men. 13 to 12, brother. it. I’m I’m betting six to three, maybe five to three if if we’re lucky. All right, someone’s going to get a safety. It’s going to be terrible, right? But no, I mean, you look at this Houston def Houston defense. This is this was what this is what no one wanted to see. No one wanted to see the Houston Texans climb into the playoffs, right? And we were wondering, you know, CJ Stra was dealing with concussions and health. The wide receiver court was dealing with health. They’re trying to figure out the running game and everything like that. And I think that, you know, with the injuries in Los Angeles and the schedule they have there, the Bills right now, at the end of week 15, the Houston Texans could be the six seed. By the end of week 16, I could see them possibly being the five seed. I would not rule out a division title here because they have the Cardinals. Feisty, but I don’t think they’re going to scare anybody. The Raiders, they face a head-to-head against the Chargers, right? It’s in LA. And then they come home for the Colts. Three of their next four games are at home. They’ve already beat the Jags once. They could win this division. And if you’re talking about them winning this division, winning out, so they finished 12-5. You’re talking the two seed might be in play depending on how Denver rolls up, how the Patriots roll up, what happens down the stretch. The three seed’s definitely in play. The division’s definitely in play. And you’re telling me there’s a chance that Houston hosts a playoff game? Good luck for anybody going into Houston who thinks they’re going to win in Houston against that defense. You’re out of your mind. Yeah. No, the like like we talked about, Joe, this is a nightmare matchup for just about anybody in the AFC because again, like I talked about, all these quarter most of these quarterbacks are young or turnoverprone and we just we just saw Josh Allen face uh face the Texans on Thursday night and we just saw Patrick Mahomes, by the way, face the Texans on Sunday Night Football. And by the way, Joe, I said I’m not a numbers guy, okay? I actually got the numbers for the combined numbers between Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. Listen to these combined numbers. Again, these arguably before the season are the top two, if not two of the top three quarterbacks in the NFL. And this is what the Houston Texans defense did to them combined. They were 57% completions, 6.1 yards per attempt, zero touchdowns, five picks, a 44 passer rating, and they were sacked 10 times. That’s how good the Houston Texans defense is. They made the two best quarterbacks in football look like B look like Anthony Richardson. That’s what the Houston Texans defense is capable of. Okay, so catch a stray. Well, we talked about it. That was the first bad quarterback that came to my mind because we were talking about the Colts earlier. So, yeah. Sorry, Anthony Richardson. Didn’t mean didn’t mean to catch a catch. Didn’t mean to throw a stray your way. Uh, my fault, bro. Uh, but I mean, listen, I I thought before the season that these Houston Texans would win the AFC South, and I still believe that now. I believe they’re the best team in the AFC South. I believe they’re going to win out. Sammy was on that before. This is also the first time we’ve mentioned Sammy. uh this entire we this is our third video we’ve recorded the first time I’ve mentioned Sammy. Thank God. Uh probably the only time I’ll mention Sammy. Uh but again we he’s been on this train for a little while. Okay. He said the Texans are going to win out. And now I believe that to be true. Okay. I believe this team is also going to win out because you talked about the Chargers being a tough matchup. The Chargers offensive line is so banged up going up against that Houston Texans pass rush with that back end of the Houston Texans that can lock down those solid receivers that the Los Angeles Chargers have. That’s a really bad matchup for the Chargers right now in my opinion. I think that’s a matchup that the Houston Texans would control from start to finish. And listen, in terms of AFC contenders, okay, I think I would probably still take both the Patriots and the Broncos over them because I think they’re both going to get home field advantage and they’re or one of them at least is going to get home field advantage in the first round buy. And I think they’re both going to be the top seeds and have, you know, the the, you know, home games for majority of the AFC playoffs. Plus, again, they’re going to be at home. That’s a they’re both cold weather places. That’s a big advantage, you know, come playoff times. And I think Joe, this might be the controversial one. I think I would still take Buffalo over them despite the fact the Texans won and, you know, sacked Josh Allen eight times and those numbers that I just talked about before because I’ve seen Josh Allen consistently raise his level of performance come playoff time. And I also simply just do not believe in this Houston Texans offense. This offensive line is not good enough. Still one of the worst in football. And uh uh if the defense can take away Nico Collins and the pass game, who’s the ball going to? Okay, I don’t really trust Jaden Higgins, Christian Kirk, Dalton Schultz. I don’t really trust any of those guys. You know, Xavier Hutchinson, I’m not I don’t really trust any of those secondary pass catchers in Houston. The run game for Houston is one of the league’s worst. Okay, when they played Buffalo on Thursday night a few weeks ago, they ran for over a 100 yards on 4.2 a clip. Sounds solid, but not overly efficient. And that was against Buffalo’s worst in the league rush defense. Okay, and I think Buffalo’s rush defense has started to get better the last couple of weeks, however, against three bad rush offenses as well in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Houston. So, the Houston Texans to me are a big threat in the AFC. I believe they will win the AFC South and they have a defense that’s capable of carrying them to a Super Bowl. They have a defense that is that good. However, I’m not quite ready to crown them favorites quite yet because their offense is struggling still. But the Houston Texans and the Texans fans should be really, really excited for this Texans team down the stretch and they got a legitimate shot to make a Super Bowl here in the AFC. This has been Between the Uprights. Football is life. The rest is just details.

The Houston Texans have quietly become one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL. After a slow and inconsistent start — and a wave of early-season injuries — Houston is now red hot at 8-5 and pushing for the AFC South title.

In today’s video, we break down why the Texans are suddenly a real Super Bowl contender, how their elite defense has completely taken over games, and whether their up-and-down offense can hold up in January.

We also talk about the AFC playoff picture, how the Texans match up against the conference’s top teams, and whether Houston could be the team nobody wants to see in the postseason.

  1. Not taking anyway from NE, but they’ve played a cup cake schedule up to this point. Im curious how the Pats would preform in the playoffs once the competition stiffens.

  2. The Texans have a deep threat, several really, on offense and a QB that can squeeze tight windows. Bo Nix can go deep, but his deep ball and receiver core isn't built for that. So that’s where I see the biggest game difference between the two offenses.
