It appears the Flyers were not in on Quinn Hughes after all.

They probably knew what it took and didn’t even try, which I completely understand
If the starting point was a package including an NHL roster center, there was no point in even making an offer.
Looking at the actual package, I’m sure as hell happy the flyers weren’t even in on him. Should only make us more confident in Danny if anything.

Smart to not get involved, this team is still in the build from the draft stage
What happened to all the guys saying “sources are saying Vancouver has no leverage” in regard to why we could easily acquire QH for spare parts in a BeAGM easy mode style trade?
What are the sources saying now?
To be frank, I do not believe we have the assets to acquire a bona fide 1C or 1D. I just don’t see it.
Danny: Hey, what do you want for Hughes?
Allvin: Your oldest child, your left nut, a first round pick, Bump, and Martone.

I imagine “tried” equals putting together an actual offer/package. I’m sure Danny made sufficient inquiries to determine that the assets required were never going to make it make sense given where the Flyers are. At least he’s out of conference and the Devils weren’t able to add the last piece of the Hughes Voltron.
I don’t want the media to know about my teams trades that don’t happen.
I think people are reading way too much into this. The Canucks were clear they wanted a young impact center (based on reports, at least). We have none. Cates is the closest, and as good as he has been, he’s not an impact center. He’ll never be as good as Rossi.
I imagine from just talking to Vancouver, GMDB realized there wasn’t any hope for a deal to be made. Not making a formal offer doesn’t mean we didn’t try. I just meant there wasn’t a realistic path forward.
I suspect that is where the rumors of Tippett came. Vancouver liked him, but he isn’t enough to be the starting basis for Hughes. And we have no interest in trading him for Sherwood or Garland, which I think also makes sense.
