The Mets and free agent infielder Jorge Polanco have agreed to a two-year contract, The Athletic’s Will Sammon reports.

He’s going to be playing the Eduardo Escobar role
“Tell ’em Wash”
GM spent months crying about defense and run prevention and then signed Polanco to play a position he’s never played before. Incredible troll job. Guys logged as many innings at first base as all of us combined.
Sammon said he’s mostly playing first base.
Jorge Polanco, wishing you a hearty welcome to Queens!!
Don’t mind this deal if the Mets get an actual 1B. I don’t see how you can put Polanco into a position he’s never played after talking about run prevention over and over
Stearns literally went out and brought the second coming of Eduardo Escobar. What run prevention can a guy who’s never played first even do?
ooo one of my favorite players from the Mariners! lets go! 😀
I can see Polanco replacing Baty at 3rd of Baty is used in a package to get Skubal.
I watched the Mariners quite a bit last season and I like this signing. A little bit of a question how he fits into 1B, but this is a good start. Finally.
Hopefully this one doesn’t break his leg or strain his back before the season starts..
I like the deal considering the situation, but playing him at first?
Love Polanco but don’t see how this works unless someone (Baty, McNeil) is getting traded.
Here for it, McNeil is gone now, a turnover of the roster will be nice to see, short term deals, keeps balance sheet clean. Love it
Don’t know how to feel, a lot of money but doesn’t matter really with the short term deal… is he playing first? We have semien at second already, Lindor’s at short, maybe third base or DH if not first (maybe Baty/Vientos get moved?) but idk just very confusing
Not bad, not great, just confusing… but he is an MLB The Show legend, so happy to have him and hopefully they kinda help explain this signing with other supporting moves soon too
For all the Stearns has a plan people, how is this an upgrade from Pete?
Great pickup. Stoked about this.
🤭
I hope this means Mc crybaby is gone
Not bad, not bad. Lindor/Semien/Polanco 6-4-3 double plays will be fun to watch.

Soooooo Mets have what, 4 2Bs?
Not the blockbuster we’re holding our breath for, but for sure in the right direction
Watched this guy all year last year (mets fan living in Seattle). Stoked he is ours!
This, to me, signals the end of Vientos. I’m bummed as a I really thought we had the next big power threat from the right side. I understand the need to move on – just hate to see it after I thought he’d be with us for a long long time.
Could be wrong.
I think the Mets may go after Murakami to have him play first base, Polanco DH.
Replaces a chunk of Nimmo’s bat and Marte’s leadership.
Long way to go, but interesting first move.
My first reaction to signing a 32 year old player who mostly DH’d last year and has never been good defensively is that we signed him to DH. I kinda don’t believe the reports that the Mets will play him at 1B. Maybe as a fallback if they don’t get someone else.
Mariners are my AL team. Sad they didn’t entice him back but a very solid pickup. Good Mets news. Excellent hitter and gets it done in big moments.
Injury issues are my only concern. He will miss 3 game stretches here and there.
Considering he gonna play 1st/DH it’s not the worst signing we could have made I guess. I don’t hate it, I don’t see how this replaces Pete Alonso’s production but I do not hate it.
The New York Second Basemen is Stearns’ true vision
If he is replacing the bat, it falls short. If it replaces 1B, it is nowhere close…so yea not a bad signing but not good enough for what has happened over the recent past.
This is big because playing for the Mariners reduced his hitting totals. He had about a 135 OPS+. He plays poor defense, but could slot in at 1B or DH on this team.
The Mets haven’t had a guy like that in about 3 days so this is good news
Supposedly he’s going to replace Alonso at first base/ DH.
If so, this is a major downgrade
I know it’s been reported that he’s going to be playing 1B/DH but if we are able to trade for Contreras and make Polanco replace McNeil as super utility/DH with Contreras, this could be a very savvy move
He’s going to play first and projects to be like a 2 win 1B. He’s probably a pretty safe bet to be a 115 wRC+ or better bat. Not a bad option. He’s a downgrade from Pete offensively for sure and will probably be worth like 1 win less. So hopefully they can make that up in CF where they got almost 0 wins last year. Then they need to replace Nimmo’s 3 wins in LF (though Nimmo projects for more like 2 wins this year, so you’re really replacing that).
Isn’t this guy missing months of the season almost every year
Let’s Go Baltimore
30+ year old who plays terrible defense? Hell yeah we cookin
The concept of signing Polanco is not BAD but it is a Wilpon move, no doubt. Giving him $40 million isn’t though so that just makes it weirder. This signing reminds me of Asdrubal Cabrera.
As a DH, solid pick up.
That’s it. I want a better 2B/1B.
20M a year for Polanco? Not sure if he’s worth that much. Might only bring on like 60 RBI.
I figured out why this bugs me and it’s that the Brodie offseason of acquiring 400 infielders included the Jed Lowrie Incident and the Mets giving a middle infielder two years to play out of position has a similar energy to that in my head.
After Diaz, this seems very aggressive approach taken to get their guy. Would love to know what they were bidding against.
Let’s add another 2B player to an already crowded position.

Guide to signings threads:
Mets sign: I like him.
Other team signs: Overpaid.
