Mets reportedly signing infielder Jorge Polanco to two-year, $40 million deal

All right, after quite a few subtractions nice to
do one of these about an addition, I can confirm
will Salmons report that the Mets have agreed to
terms with Jorge, Polanco pending a physical and first and
foremost kudos to will, who has been crushing it again, this
offseason. And I believe yesterday, he mentioned on being in y or
hey, Polanco, and the Mets. That was the first time that I
had heard it from anybody. So, great job by will even just
putting those, those two names together to start. But this is a nice little
signing for the Mets, maybe maybe more than a nice little
signing. For the Mets. First and
foremost, he’s a good hitter, really good hitter and a
versatile. Hitter switch. Hitter hit 26 home runs last year and
0ps over 800. And I mentioned the word
versatile because he brings a lot of Versatility
defensively as well. I know he played the majority of his games
at DH last year. I would assume he gets a lot of time at
DH but the Mets believe in Polanco defensively as well.
This is not just strictly bringing on a DH. He can play all over, the
diamond has not played a lot of first. Is, but they really
believe in his athleticism, his work ethic his hands and think that that along with the coaching staff that they
brought onboard, can really make him transition nicely to
first base. So listen, I don’t think he is
going to be the direct one-to-one replacement for Pete.
Alonso. I’ve been saying this for a little while now but
I don’t think it’s going to be as linear as that with the Mets.
I think they’re going to replace a lot of these players in the aggregate. So
yes, Polanco will get some time at first base but I’ll get some Time elsewhere. I’ll get some
time at DH but again, this is a nice versatile player. Good bat that they’ve brought in as they
start to rebuild. Now this roster and reshape still a lot of a lot
of work to be done but a good first step for the Mets
and Jorge Polanco. I love the additional Jorge Polanco now
he’s not Pete Alonso, we know that nobody’s going to be Pete
Alonso, but he’s an athlete and an
athlete. The performed at a high level in clutch
situations. In the postseason when Seattle versatile, he’s To
be the best first. Baseman apparently can hit with some pop
but just the fact that Stearns are going to try to
build this team with some Bull
players, some athletes, it’s not going to make you feel
better about losing Pete. That’s is not about what this
is, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t make this team
better. It’s a nice start and trying to build this team out.
Post the core of Nimmo and Pete Alonso.

SNY’s Steve Gelbs confirms and reacts to Will Sammon’s report that the Mets have agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal with infielder Jorge Polanco, who will likely play a mix of DH and first base for the Mets in 2026. Gelbs also notes that he believes the team will replace players lost in free agency with multiple pieces. BNNY host Sal Licata also weighs in on the move and what it means for the Mets.

  1. Terrible move. 20 mil for this guy? What happened to run prevention? He’s playing first base. Got an old right side of the infield now. Strange signings so far

  2. You've got to be kidding me!?! The GM is willing to pay a dude with 2 WAR average and .750 OPS (over the last 3 years), $20M per year.

The GM is not pay willing to pay Pete Alonso $31M per year (Drafted talent and legacy player, with 3 WAR average and .850 OPS)?!? Jeezus Christ on a Bike!

  3. Mets have been a disgrace this off season, Stearns has looked awful, he says he wants better defense and signs a guy who's played one game at 1b and who's hitting has been inconsistent at best in his career… no idea what mets are doing.

  4. I feel bad for last years season ticket holders:

They had such a high price increase and perks shifted just to watch a team not to make the playoffs. Then have the team gutted the following offseason, right after season ticket early bird specials are over.

  5. Awful signing. Played ONE GAME at 1B. Injury prone player. Pedestrian numbers for the past five years except for last year. He's also 33 years old. His defensive metrics are below average at every position he plays. Bargain basement signing.
