Hurricanes were (unsurprisingly) in on the Q. Hughes sweepstakes

Who are we in on now? Other contenders are making big moves. We need one too before people but us to the best options.
Oh man NJ would HATE us
Would have instantly made us legendary on defense, helped our PP (to an extent it’s still on coaching), and a player like Quinn helps or offense so much.
We still need a number 1 rhd and whatever top forward is available, preferably center but I’m not going to argue if we get a winger.
Hughes is great, but to match Minnesota’s offer it was probably one of Blake/Stankoven, Nikishin, Nadeau, and a 1st. All for potentially 1.5 years of Hughes and then he leaves to join his brothers within the division.
I am sure that the Canes are still plenty active, hard to imagine that our roster will be the same as it is now come playoff time
We’d probably have to give up Svechy but he’s my favourite player on the roster, so I’d be very sad if we did
Apprently they wanted a center. Probably not KK though.
Hughes is top in offense, but not in defense. Not so sure if he would have been a net add or not. Also not sure why it’s always the shiny new object out there everyone needs because a lot of times it never seems to move the needle much.
Is it just me or did it seem like MIN got him for cheap? Rossi is good but the other parts didn’t move the needle that much for me. Maybe I’m just undervaluing what they gave up?
Tulsky wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t at least explore what was possible.
I don’t think my heart could take trading significant assets for him just to have him walk, and especially if he walked to New Jersey. And he’s staying in the west. We are all good!
I hear Svetch’s name often in trade discussion. In my opinion it would be a big loss to move him. He’s consistently one of our best passers and playmakers, he may turn the puck over every now and then and take a stupid penalty most players do. I’d take 37 battling for pucks in the corners over anyone else on this team.
We don’t have the center depth that hughes required. If tulsky traded aho or staal for quinn he would be ran out of town with torches and pitchforks. A real contender just shouldn’t give up as much as the wild did for quinn.
There’s a reason most trade rumors involved teams not good enough to win a cup like NJ or philly. l
