NHL Highlights | Lightning vs. Islanders – December 13, 2025

doing doing things like that. Our puck drop is presented by Band of Pharmaceuticals with the Islanders and Lightning again. They’re entire as Mitchell tries to wrestle this puck away from Yanni Gord out high. Gensel a wrist shot save made through traffic as Sroen came out well out as Crease to make that stop. He’ll grab one from Sireelli. He’ll leave it for Schaer in the middle of the ice. Three lightning, two sticks trying to defend for 13 more seconds. Barcel for Schaefer on the forehand. Duclair back. Schaer shot scores. A power play goal for Matthew Schaer. Anthony Selli. Give him his stick and then sort of try to pick on the guy without one as the do that. does actually a really nice job making sure he’s not the most important position, but a quick pass and maybe one Johansson will want back. It doesn’t really matter. Matthew Schaer is on the board. The Islanders power play continuing to roll. It’s the ninth goal of the season for Schaefer. His fifth power play goal already this year. James on the handoff for Scott Sabin who’s in the lineup today of the big Curtis Douglas but Sabin is as tough as they come should the game come to that. Anthony Duclair had Croer miss a step Duclair flying in the drop pass for Richie. He scores. Cal Richie from Anthony Duclair and the Islanders have the first two in the first period. Let’s take a look at Max Croer. We mentioned the ice, the puck’s not settling. Well, keep an eye on him. And it’s the speed from Duclair that eventually gets going, but he just trips a little bit. And that’s when Duclair decides, I need to go. I need to take off. Smarts on Cal Richie. A lot of times you want to drift away from your player. You don’t want to be too close, but you see the stumble. But watch where Richie ends up in your screen. Almost completely behind him. That’s going to be some soft, quiet ice. to shave it off. He was counting numbers, realized there’d be nobody on this side of the ice and so Holmstrom went to get it on for Lee on net. Pio driving and he’s able to out muscle his man. Moer went down. Let a chance for Lee go off the side of the net. Moer hadn’t lost it to Barcel. Barzell withdrew. He found Hine down the knob and the stick of Johansson. A more conventional clear this time. able to get some changes off as well. Let’s pull up just onto the ice with Schaefer. Meanwhile, Selli across. Oh, the post. Sroen lost his footing and he flows in. And this is the one you talked about Brendan off the post. Great. I don’t know how you Yeah, he got mad. John Cooper did it. The referee or was yelling at the referee right after the Islanders scored that Cal Richie goal. Cuts in. Blaming power plays ranked 22nd in the league. Cucharov Downford. Gensel driving in. Got two whacks at it. Siroken stopped them both. He’s off the draw. Squirts across the ice. Point. Coochov. Gensel. Radish of Yorkstrad. They stay on. 10 seconds left on the two-man advantage. Cooch goal line. Gensel returns it. Coochov. Radish scores. Boy, he can hammer that puck. It’s a five on three power play goal for Tampa from Darren Radish to cut it to 2-1. It’s all about face ups, right? JG Poke did an awesome job on that first one. He won it to himself. That one he actually won it, but Islanders outnumbered. And that’s just a bullet right there. And for Sroken, you’re honoring the eyes of Coov at this point. As you move over, bodies in the lane. And coming around the boards for Radish now for Gensel. Radish for Coov operating from the wall. Goal line. Gensel in front point with a shot and Sroken was there the next day. But there’s so many threats on this power play. Just as we talked about the time with Gensel when you see sticks and bodies go towards him and you’re around the guy, you’re right in the area. Got it with the blocker. 25 left on the kill point. Settle it down. Cut goal line. Gensel stuff in there again. Lightning quick. And you talk about the low play. Well, Gensel’s going to continue to jam and stop. Three Islanders sort of standing next to him. This pass slipped through. Here’s Hegel driving. Caught him out. Wrap around. Got to the front. Fought off by Sroen on the try from Gourd. Radish over Gensel. Celli returns it. Gensel with a burst right up the middle. Jake Gensel shot stopped by Sroken. Two minutes to play. Radish a shot stopped by the stick shaft of Sroen. A year where the two of those guys coming off the Canadian American Olympic team come in the locker room. I imagine you guys were awful excited about getting those pieces into your lineup. We were. You know, I think you’re seeing a little bit of it with our team here this year. Unrelenting this season in the NHL with the Olympic break coming up in February. Everything is kind of slammed together. So, lots of hockey for everybody. Here’s Moer. He scores off the face off. They get it to JJ Moer. He picks his spot and the Lightning erase what was the two nothing Islanders lead. He’s going to sell a shot and you watch Moser in the right hand of your screen. He’s slipping down Max Shabov. He’s got to have an eye on that. And if you don’t, if you’re not face off ready, the puck is in the back of your net just like that. Incredible deception. Look at his eyes. And for a goalender, anything laterally, east west taken away by Radish, which threw the Islanders offside. Led hit some time. And now a twoon one. Diving is Barcel. on the pass to the front. Oh, Suken made the save on what was a redirection off the stick of Truan. So, the Islanders threatening but do not register a shot on the power play as D’Angelo’s pass off the stick of Mlan. Sikas from a tough angle. Put it in the crease. Mlan a chance. Where’s the puck? It’s under the goalie and it must not be across the line as the whistle finally is blown as everybody piled on in the crease. Well, this is where chaos started, right? A shot from the corner and Sikas follows that thing around the left skate of Darren Radish right there as he’s trying to fend off Kyle Mlan. Kicks that thing back into Johansson. Where did that thing ultimately end up? Well, this is going to be the best look at it right there. Watch the skater radish come in and as he gets pushed back. Yeah, didn’t cross the line. It wouldn’t appear down the wall. Homer slipped on through. Pio trying to give him the centering feed. Here’s Raz with a shot. He hits the post. 20 seconds to go. Moer to the net. Serious got it covered. Just so tough for the Islanders to exit. But taking it to the house is Homeberg. And watch this shot come in from the point off the post. We’ll keep our eye right there. Mayfield and Gourd. Right at the end of that, a little hook around the face, but yeah, there’s the post. Radish as hot as anyone right now. Far side just like he scored his goal. Nice job of Troken finding a way to 3 seconds turning. Holstrom can’t get the shot off. And this one requires overtime tonight. Islanders and Lightning have played three tight games. This one to be decided after regulation. Great skating. It’s already over center. Come on, help me out here. It’s got to be an even draw. See if that foot creeps as it is on Celli. Three overtime winners for the Islanders belong to Barczel, Pacou, and Schaefer. Lightning win the faceoff. They change Celli and Hegel. Islanders sneak Pacio and Schaffer onto the ice. The stretch passed over. Coochu up. He’s got saved by Sroen. Holstrom got the rebound first. Schaer with 10 into the corner for Barcel. Matt Barcel. 4 seconds to go. Barcel knock off the glass. Chances on both sides of the ice, but nobody can score in overtime. And we’ve got a shootout. While Srogan has had his struggles in shootouts this season. Jonas Johansson is 0 for five in his career. He comes in. He went for the shot and it’s squeezed by Sroen. A little look behind him there as it’s not the open spot. It’s be between the pads and the glove and Sroen beautifully executed there. Making sure there’s Matt Barcel will be the first shooter for the Islanders. Coming straight in scores. Hey, did he learn something from that partial break that he had? It was the exact same move he tried, but he wasn’t being pestered from behind. And right there that spot we talk about the goal scorer score below the glove above the pad off the post and in point coming flying in he does the same thing. Wow that’s just speed and want to match speed and be measured as you come back. You see guys going laterally to go left and right. Point just went straight down as Simon Holmstrom. He’s got some moves. What does he have for us tonight? Stopped by the Hudson. Well, we’ve seen that move from Holstrew before. I see Holmstro try to bait him a little bit, go to the back hand, and then it’s almost a stop. He’s so good at that move and it’s Nikita Cucher. Third shooter here for Tampa. Casually save from Zro and the Oers will have a chance to win it with a goal. Calm and composed and almost looks like he tried to take a little bit off of this on the release. One for one this season. Two for two in his career. has a chance to win it for the New York Islanders in the shootout. Score. A shootout winner for Heineman as the Islanders sweep the homestead and move into first place in the Eastern Conference.

Emil Heineman sniped the deciding goal in the shootout and Ilya Sorokin made 32 saves to help the New York Islanders top the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 3-2 win.
