🚨Giants Head Coach Candidate List REVEALED By NFL Insider Dianna Russini | NY Giants News
Has the New York Giants head coach candidate list been revealed? Diana Rousini of The Athletic dropping a bombshell article today that we got to talk about. Before we do that though, make sure you have subscribed to the channel. You’re watching Giants Now by Chat Sports and I’m your host Marshall Green. We put out free videos every day on your New York Football Giants and we are closing in on 99,000 subscribers. If you bleed Giants blue and you want to help out a fellow Giants fan, smash that sub button right now. Five names apparently are on the list to be the next head coach for the New York Giants. That is what Diana Rousini of The Athletic is reporting today. I’ll set the stage by saying this. I think there are going to be more than just five names that are going to be interviewed, but I do think it is extremely newsworthy that these are the five names being reported right now. The New York Giants could go out and interview a guy like Mike McCarthy if they wanted to. And I am hearing that they have not they have conducted zero interviews at the time of recording this video. And all the coaches we are going to name are coaching different teams at different levels which means they cannot be interviewed. But again remember guys like Mike McCarthy, maybe someone else out there like a John Gruden, they are more than welcome to interview. They have not yet though at this time. Let’s start with the hottest name on the streets of the New York Giants and their potential next head coach and that is Marcus Freeman, the head coach for Notre Dame. This is a name that has really been heating up over the past couple of weeks and really this week specifically. You’ve seen a lot of smoke around Marcus Freeman to the New York Giants. He fell for heard a little smoke about him maybe being interested to go and coach M uh the Michigan football uh Wolverines as they have fired their head coach or he has fired himself, however you want to look at that. But the 39-year-old head coach for Notre Dame, he is in the headlines of being the next Giants head coach. Diana wrote this about him saying, “I also expect Freeman to garner interest from other NFL organizations. The 39year-old has spent the past four years leading Notre Dame, taking the Irish to the national championship game last season. Last December, he agreed to a lucrative contract extension through 2030. And though he has never coached in the NFL, his leadership, people skills, and ability to thrive in one of the most highprofile jobs in the country are what’s drawing the interest of general managers and owners. Let’s go back a couple of weeks ago when Paul Schwarz of the New York Post, who I believe is probably the most tapped beat reporter of what is going on in the front office of the New York Giants. Not saying he gets direct information from John Mara, but I’m also not not saying it. He wrote this. There is some high regard in the Giants building for Marcus Freeman. And that was a couple of weeks ago, and I think I I as well as other kind of poo pooed that idea that it wasn’t all that realistic. And then as days have gone by and weeks have gone by, it is starting to really feel like it could be a reality. If it is a reality, the New York Giants are going to have to fork over a lot of money to the Irish. There is a rumor out there that Freeman in his contract signed a deal that said he has a $50 million buyout to hire him. Meaning the New York Giants would have to pay Notre Dame $50 million. And I’ll say this, if the Giants plan to interview Marcus Freeman, they’ve already told themselves that they are going to pay the 50 million. And so I don’t think that that is going to be a hurdle if they do want him and especially with new ownership or 10% new ownership groups coming into the Giants bringing in that type of cash that can help them in this type of situation. Reminder, there’s no salary cap for coaches. What you spend on a coach doesn’t limit you for what you can spend on your roster as long as your ownership has the dollars to make it happen. We also know the Giants are heavily connected to Notre Dame. Tim McDonald, the director of player personnel, spent eight years with Notre Dame prior to joining the New York Football Giants. And God bless his soul, John Mara is sick at this time, dealing with cancer. We do not know how severe it is. We are hoping that he beats cancer’s ass, and we are all praying for him every single day, but there may be a situation where he has to hand over the keys of being the top decision maker for the Giants. And there’s a lot of speculation that Tim McDonald could be the one receiving the keys for Mr. John Mara. So, uh, Tim McDonald connected to Notre Dame, Notre Dame, obviously, Marcus Freeman and Paul Schwarz all saying it. So, it’s not just that. And you also have, uh, today Diana Rousini saying this, the smoke has begun to be so large that Giants beat reporters are now asking Giants players that played under Marcus Freeman about him. They asked Bo Collins, who spent some time with the Fighting Irish, and he said this, “The biggest thing I would say with Coach Freeman is accountability.” Collins said when asked about what makes Freeman a leader of men, he was quick to own up to his mistakes and let us know he was going to get better while I was there. And he just asks the same from his players. That was the main thing. seems like anytime you hear about players talk about Marcus Freeman, it’s in a positive light. They are he I would I sometimes when you say a guy’s a players coach, that means that they’re extremely lenient. I I think he’s a players coach because players love playing for him and they love leaving it all on the line for him. players pushed for Freeman to be the head coach at Notre Dame when he was just the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach in 2021 prior to taking over the job when Brian Kelly left to go coach uh LSU and got a Cinjun accent. He has not coached in uh the National Football League before. He did kind of play in the NFL after being a linebacker at Ohio at Ohio State um in 2009. He kind of bounced around on some practice squads and was on some offseason rosters as well, but you could see it. Ohio State grad assistant, Kent State linebacker coach, Purdue linebacker coach, Purdue co-defensive coordinator, Cincinnati defensive coordinator, Notre Dame defensive coordinator, and now the another Notre Dame football coach since 2021. He’s never coached in the National Football League before. And that is a little bit of a worry for me. But you’ll never know he’s a good coach until it’s like when you’re trying to get a job. It’s like you need experience. Well, you have to get experience some ways. And I think the most important thing cuz I do think like as corny as it is, like the smart, tough, dependable thing, that is something that Marcus Freeman would preach, accountability. He is someone that creates a culture. He holds players to the standard. And I heard Jeremiah Love talking about him today, the running back that’s competing for the Heisman Trophy talk about he speaks to the last guy on the roster like he does to the best player on the roster. I think the New York Giants could benefit from a coach like that that demands respect and treats everybody the same no matter if you’re the best player or the player that’s not making the biggest impact. The most important thing for him though would be his hires. He would have to be able to fill out an NFL staff. And I’m not just talking about NFL coaches that he knows due to his time in Notre Dame because those coaches aren’t all that good. What he does at offensive coordinator and what he does at defensive coordinator, I think will really tell the story of how he succeeds or does not succeed. in the National Football League. He’s a CEO type head coach. Yes, he does have defensive coordinator experiences in college football, but he would take this job with the Giants as the overlooking head coach looking at the offense, the defense, building a culture, getting the most out of players, motivating them, and holding them to a certain standard. So, who he hires as OC in DC, that would probably be the most important thing to really, I would say, tell a story of what his time as a head coach in the NFL would be, whether it’s with the Giants or not. We’ll talk more head coaches in a second, but I want to hear you weigh in down in the comments section. Make the call. Do you think the Giants should hire Marcus Freeman as their next head football coach? Type Y for yes, type N for no. All right, I want to talk about the next head coach and that is going to be Cliff Kingsberry that was named by Diana Rousini. And this is a name that has been kicked around a couple of different times by some people that cover the Giants. And you can kind of see why that would make some sense, right? He is an offensive coach. He played in the National Football League as a quarterback as well with the Houston Cougars. He coached there. Then he moved on to after being the co-offensive coordinator or the offensive coordinator with the Texas A&M Aggies really got his name known because of what he did with Johnny football and Johnny Manzel helping him win the Heisman Trophy that gets him the job at Texas Tech. He then um spent a couple of years there, had some success, had some moments where it wasn’t all that great and then he went to go coach the Arizona Cardinals and he was awesome in that first year when they got Kyler Murray and since then hasn’t really worked all that well. Well, then he went to USC to kind of rebrand a little bit and then he became the Washington Commander offensive coordinator and he and Jaden Daniels last year were an awesome duo and then Jaden Daniels got hurt this year and I don’t think it’s fair to judge him uh judge him being Kingsberry off of what the commanders have done considering Mariota has been there. But even with Mariota, they’ve still had some success. Look, there is no doubt that Cliff Kingsberry is an awesome offensive coordinator, a bright offensive mind. He’s worked with high-profile quarterbacks before. He’s taken quarterbacks to the next step of their career. Well, we kind of talked about this with Mike Kfka as well. That’s why he subscribed to the channel. Sometimes in life, you just are who you are. And I wonder if Cliff Kingsberry is more of just a badass offensive coordinator compared to a head football coach. There is a much different responsibility from calling the plays and game planning and installing the game plan than conducting an overall coaching job over 50 uh 48 players every game day and 53 players on the roster. I like the idea of going to an offensive mind to try to get the best out of Jackson Dart, but again I wonder if Cliff is just a coordinator compared to a head coach. Let’s talk about another offensive coordinator, one that’s never been a head coach in the NFL, and that is Click Kubak, the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks. We talked about him a couple of weeks ago. And then you didn’t really hear much about him in this coaching carousel, but for the first time off of serious NFL reporting from Diana, we are hearing that Clint Kubak is on the list of Giants head coach candidates, and I’m pretty pumped up about that. He is doing a great job in Seattle this year as the play caller. They are the second highest scoring team in the National Football League. He was also the OC in 2021 for the Vikes and for the uh New Orleans Saints in 2024. And he is the son of former Super Bowl winning head coach Gary Kubak with the Denver Broncos. And Gary was also a longtime coach for the Houston Texans. I’ve said this before and I maintain it. If we are going to hire an offensive coordinator that’s never been a head coach before, Clint Kubak is number one on my list. I love what he is doing this year with Sam Darnold. I love how easily he is scheming it up to get the ball in the hands of Jackson Smith and Jigba. I think he could do the same with Malik Neighbors. We saw him also do that in 2021 with Justin Jefferson in Minnesota. I like the NFL DNA that he has. His dad Gary was a great coach, Super Bowl winning coach, and I think that that matters to the New York Giants. They want some of those NFL bloodlines in their culture. I like Kubak. Still unsure about what he’d be as a head coach because we’ve never seen it. And I have those same worries that I have about Kingsberry than I do with Kubak, but I think his dad being a coach before and more of a a clean slate than Kingsberry, I’d be willing to risk it for him. I think he’d get the absolute most out of Jackson Dart or be a coach that could help him reach his potential, which uh I think is extremely high in this league. A couple more coaches to talk about, but I do want to let you guys know as some real ones have already gotten their shirts and sent pictures to me. Jeff Hafley, the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, was a name that we were hearing a lot in the head coaching process uh for the New York Giants. Really prior to the game where the Giants should have beat the Green Bay Packers and then Mike Kfka and the Giants kind of ran the ball all over Green Bay and a lot of people weren’t really as hype for him. But since then, he’s done even an even better job with the Packers. They are allowing just 19 points per game. They have the sixth best scoring defense in the NFL. He has a lot of talent, no doubt about it, in Green Bay, but he’s doing a hell of a job there. And he was a head coach, at least at the college level for Boston College from 2020 to 2023. And uh maybe the most important thing to some people in the Giants building is he grew up a Giants fan and he’s from the area and he has ties to the organization. He said, “I have a lot of memories of Giants stadium growing up as a kid.” He said that prior to the Giants game against Green Bay this year. Connor our who covers the NFL for Sports Illustrated put out an article this week saying halfly rides into this season as arguably one of the top five candidates and a heavy favorite for the New York Giants job. So while it may seem like the uh fire has cooled a little bit on Halfley and this job I think he’s got a serious shot to get it and um I think today’s report kind of just stamps that at this point. Lanna Rumo is the last name that Diana mentioned and that we are going to talk about on today’s show and as you see no Chris Shula I think some people will be upset about that but again want to make clear I think there’s going to be more than five names and five interviews for this job and it’s just what she’s hearing at this time doesn’t mean other things aren’t going on but let’s t let’s talk about Luano a coach that we have spent a lot of time talking about on this show that’s why you subscribe so you don’t miss it he is the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts right now they’re having a really good season on that side of the ball. Some injuries are starting to slow them down as a team, but he’s most notably known for his time as the defensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals from 2019 to 2024, the defensive coordinator of that team when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs to get to the Super Bowl. He was actually interviewed in 2022 to be the Giants head coach where Joe Shane chose Brian Dable over him. and he does uh from Staten Island. Grew up a Giants fan, defensive back coach in 2018. So, he’s got that green check mark on his name as well. And supposedly him and Joe Shane have some ties as well. I believe they spent time with the Miami Dolphins back when Shane was there. And Luanumo’s son is a scout for the New York Giants. So, all the wires are crossed in this situation. Well, I don’t want to be disrespectful to Lannarumo. I think if he gets an opportunity to be a head coach, he can be a head coach. But this would be just the ultimate New York Giants move. We’re going to hire the defensive coordinator that once worked here, that we once interviewed to be the head coach, that grew up a Giants fan, that’s from Staten Island, that has ties with the organization, that’s friends with the Giants general manager. I’m just I’m not motivated. I’m not inspired and by any means of this hire. And I was talking to one of my friends uh that’s a Giants fan as well yesterday and we were like you know what I think if the Giants and just kind of sidetracked here. The Giants were to hire Marcus Freeman that would feel like they won the hire. Like in the moment I’d be pumped up about Marcus Freeman. But what does he do after that? That’s most important for Lu Anarumo. That would feel like the Giants have lost the head coaching search because I can promise you this. He’s not getting hired by any other team to be a head coach this cycle or next cycle. So why should the New York Football Giants, an organization that has not one, not two, not three, but four Super Bowls, 101 years in the National Football League, go and hire Lannarumo when I’m not sure he will get even another head coaching interview this cycle. Look, can’t he be a good head coach? Sure. Do I think he will? It doesn’t really matter what I think. I’m just speaking for what I think, believe, and hear, and think I know. I think the Giants could do better than Louis Anarumo as their head coach this cycle. So, can’t tell. I’m not typing Lou Anorumo in the comments. I want you to type though the coach that you want to be the next guy for the New York Football Giants. Still, Mike Tom on number one on my list. Harbaugh from the Ravens is still number two. I don’t know if they’re moving anywhere. If I had to say who it was right now, Chris Schula is up there. Um, I really like Kubiaak as well. I can’t lie to you. My in my my interest and intrigue is peaked by uh Marcus Freeman. Let me know your names that you want to see as the next head coach down below. And make sure you are following me on social media. I’m on Twitter. I’m on Instagram. Marshall Green

Who do you want to be the Giants next head coach?
That don't want any of them, don't want anyone that has connections to joe shcoen. He needs to be fired, chris shula, john gruden, the big maybe mike tomlin
🤔🤔🤔🤔
Freeman seems like a good guy but this is not where he should be getting his first nfl experience.
J.M. is not buying out nobody's contract especially a 50 million contract
Soooo No Chris Shula
Coordinators, and first time coaches have never worked out for the giants
Giants need a leader of Men.We understand the are in transition. Also our new coach must be able to handle the NYC media. Think Dan Reeves Tom Coughlin Rex Ryan Herm Edwards Tom Thibodeau Joe Torre. You get the picture
wheres her upper lip?
I'm usually not one to push for the hot name, but Shula is absolutely the guy. The fact that he grinded out 7 years as random position coaches for the same organization before becoming a coordinator when he could have easily moved up quickly elsewhere because of his last name and McVay connection tells you a lot about him. Not to mention how he turned that Rams defense around fast when they have just an average roster. He checks all of the boxes:
– Brings a schematic advantage to elevate our defense
– Turns busts like Emmanuel Forbes into serviceable starters, so you feel he gets the best out of players
– Has good connections to fill out his coaching staff
– Doesn't have a hot head so he won't burn bridges with coaches
– Has commanded a disciplined unit
– Experienced in coaching both sides of the ball
– Has little connection with the Giants' dumpster fire
I could go on
Give me Freeman, Shula or Tomlin. We need a real culture shift.
Hi Marshall, awesome update. Let’s go Big Blue!
Early reports were making it look like we would completely ignore college coaches so i'm happy to hear Freeman's name coming up now. Hope we give him a serious look and not just to satisfy the Rooney rule. I love him and think he could bring a lot of the cultural things that this team needs. 50 mil buyout is heafty and VERY hard to imagine ownership pulling the trigger on, but if he blows it away in interviews and is far and away the top guy, then I would hope we prioritize winning for once and make the hard choice, even if its difficult.
Don't like any of these guys as a HC for the Giants. I have been a Giants fan since the 80s, and this is the worst condition I have seen this team in for this extended period of time. This team is in such a mess that we need someone (like Tom Coughlin was) with NFL head coaching experience that can take the bull by the horns from day one. Having another coordinator come in and learn to be a head coach and fix this mess of a team is more than could be asked of superman. Mike McCarthy or John Gruden have the vote of this old fart.
No
😂 we all know that my beloved giants are not going to hire a black man for HC or pay 50 million to get one 😂
If sloppy Joe Schoen is still in charge, he'll pick a first time HC who he can bully. Hard to imagine a lot changing, except a few extra wins and more poor picks. Not what we need!!
Y
We need experience no more first year coaches
chucky is a hard nose coach that we need , hes a perfect fit…Oh an Dianna is Smoking Hot by the way Damn I'm in love with that chick…
Freeman
Dianna looks good
Get freemen
I know the coach obviously matters so much but I don’t want the gm to have anything to do with the seach
Mcarthy Tomlin Harbaugh or Shula. Thats it for me
Out of this group Kubiack by far
Sub for Giants Dubs. Like and HYPE these videos up everyone…..Help Marsh get to 100,000 K Subs🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Klint Kubiak
If The Giants are sniffing around Freeman then imo Joe S is safe
The Giants are not hiring Freeman. They need an experienced coach. If they want anything from ND, they sign ad many player players as they can from them.
So reluctant to hire a coach with NO NFL experience. Plus, paying 50 million on an unknown seems extremely risky and not financially prudent. Also, if I'm Freeman, why would I want to give up a great gig, with awesome pay and then have to deal with idiots like Abdul Carter who you can't cut because of his salary. In college, if a player isn't doing his job you replace him without much consequence. BTW: I like Kubiak.
I've got a leek for Diana Russini 🧅(only have an onion, nm)
No to Freeman. No to Cliff Kingsbury. I’d live to look at Minter Shula Kubiak and if Harbaugh gets fired from the Ravens I’d talk with him
All junk
