The Texans are the AFC Frontrunners! Why this Defense is Super Bowl Caliber!
But let’s talk about the Houston Texans. This has been another team that I’ve been really bullish on all season long. I I’m so happy now that they’re finally putting all the pieces together and they’ve been doing it over the last 3 weeks. It’s really been a bumpy ride so far. They start 0 and3. The offense looks I mean just so awful. They look like a high school offense that you’d see, you know, my my old high school coach running. I mean, it looked so so bad. And that’s not to say my high school coach didn’t have some great plays, but you know what? The Houston Texans might have even been worse than us. It was that bad. And so I look at Houston now being 8 and5 really turning the ship around and I think, man, they are they’re dangerous. This this defense alone can win you football games. And that’s the most impressive thing to me. Like this isn’t just a good defense. This is a generational defense. every stat, every metric would tell you that they are they are performing that well. And I even go back to that Seattle game where they had four turnovers and the defense still kept a minute where they almost had a shot to win. Houston hasn’t been blown out by anybody. They’ve been in every single game this year. They’re winning at a really high level right now and and I’m I’m seeing the offense come together at a really high level. This is now five out of six games that that Houston has won. excuse me, six out of seven games that they’ve won. That would also make it eight out of nine games that they’ve won as well. So, they are red-hot right now, uh, to say the least. And I look at a Houston team that CJ Stout is finally playing with some confidence. That’s the biggest night and day difference. I know I was highly critical of the offensive line around him, and it has been better. I I was saying, you know, the receiving core has really experienced a lot of injuries as I dropped my pencil here. the the receiving core was really up and down. Nico Collins was banged up. Christian Kirk wasn’t all the way acclimated into this offense. And they’re finally getting some continuity. Finally, everything’s coming together. And that’s the biggest difference for me when I watch the Houston Texans. They’re running the ball a little bit better with Woody Marks. That’s a big time difference maker. But I know this the box score in the stat sheet’s not going to going to be eyepopping when you look at what CJ Stra did against Kansas City, but I look at him making plays on third down when Chris Jones is is fully wrapping him up and he he had some clutch third and long conversions that I was like, man, CJ Stout’s playing with some confidence again. And I think that’s what we’ve got to be careful of as an NFL community, as we watch the Houston Texans as we maybe take them for granted. Like, yeah, they’re a good football team, but like, can they really turn it up when it matters the most? I mean, they can. Like, CJ Strad is one of only six quarterbacks in the history of the league that has won a playoff game in each of his first two starts in his entire career in the postseason. That’s what we’re witnessing with CJ Stout. So, the dude’s a killer when it matters the most. And I think that’s what we’ve got to be careful of. It’s almost this repetition of cutting your teeth in the postseason, not getting over the hump, not winning the big games when you get there. And with Straoud, we’ve seen him now win two playoff games when he was an underdog. And I think that’s what’s going to be the biggest differencemaker this year is they’ve they’ve had that cutting of the teeth, per se, in the playoffs. And now you’re looking at a generational defense that is going to step up for you, that is going to make big-time plays, and that is going to give you opportunities, that’s going to instill life into you as an offense. You just can’t shoot yourselves in the foot and you’re going to win football games. That’s that’s a luxury. It’s like, hey, don’t turn the football over four times and we’re going to win. Don’t turn the football over three times and we’re going to win a football game. And that is such a great luxury. And I think we’re still taking for granted what CJ Strad can do out there. And I think that’s why I’m the most excited for this Houston Texans team because I think they’re I think they’re the best team in the AFC right now. And I know maybe that’s that’s going to draw a huge reaction and people are going to say, “Yo, you know, you’re a prisoner of the moment.” That’s just recency bias. What team’s playing better than them right now? I I know that New England looks good. Uh and and I and I really have been impressed with them. Drake May is having this MVP caliber season, but you’re telling me that if Houston comes on the road against New England that as a Patriots fan, you’d feel good right now? I would say those are those are two of the best teams in the AFC right now. I think you can put them both solidly in tier one and in probably put them as an A and a B right next to each other. And then at tier two, I’d probably put Denver. I’d probably put Buffalo and maybe Jacksonville. Who knows? But I would say right now it’s hard to find a team in in its in its whole in its entirety playing better than the Houston Texans. I mean, they’ve won five straight games, folks. And it’s not like they’re beating bad teams. The the defense over the last three weeks. I mean, they’ve been a world beater. First of all, they beat Jacksonville, who as of right now is 9-4, the three seed in the AFC. That’s how this fivegame winning streak started. Then they beat Tennessee. That’s nothing really impressive, but they did it with Davis Mills. And they also beat Jacksonville with Davis Mills. Then you beat Buffalo with Davis Mills. You beat Indianapolis. You beat Kansas City. Four of those teams are all in the playoff mix right now. And Houston beat every single one of them. And to to take it a step further, Buffalo, like the last three teams that they’ve played, those are all elite offenses in the National Football League. The Chiefs only 10 points on Sunday Night Football, three turnovers from Patrick Mahomes. The Indianapolis Colts, the number one scoring offense up until that point, 16 points. Then the Buffalo Bills, when you have Davis Mills as your starting quarterback, they sacked Josh Allen eight times. That’s the most in his entire career. This defense is slowing down and flat out shutting out some of the best offenses in the NFL. And that’s what is terrifying for the NFL. And it was like, could they get over this tough stretch of games? Could they get through this absolute gauntlet where you’ve got to play legitimate contenders? And you can see where they actually were at. Now they get Arizona, they get Las Vegas, they get the Chargers on the road, and then they get Indianapolis with maybe Philip Rivers as their starting quarterback. So I I realistically say, why can’t they win the division? Why can’t they get upwards of a of a five seed? And then who who who do we like in our first round matchup? Do you like Pittsburgh over Houston? I personally hate the matchup for Pittsburgh. I think Houston mops the floor with them. Jacksonville, maybe. Maybe Houston gets that six seed. Do we like Jacksonville over Houston? I personally hate the matchup. New England. Houston, that would be a tough game. I’m telling you right now, that would be a tough game. Houston almost beat Denver when CJ Strad went down and it was Davis Mills first first time really being inserted into this roster this season. I I I I firmly believe that Houston is one of the best teams in football. I think they’re the favorite to win the AFC right now. And it’s just a matter of time before they just break all the way through and emerge as the number one team in the NFL with how good this defense is. And they look absolutely terrifying. [Music]

Reminds me of when 2016 Broncos defense carried to a SB win. I know they had Manning, but what I remember most is Von Miller and the defense. It could happen… “2025 Texans, Will Anderson Jr. and that defense”
