🚨 BREAKING: Mets Land BIG Free Agent + Open to Trading Top Prospects?! | Mets News

The New York Mets make their first big acquisition in the offseason. I’m going to give you my thoughts on it. Plus, the Mets may be stopping some of their higherend prospects. We’re going to break it down for you next on Metcast. [Music] [Applause] [Music] What’s going on Mets fans? Welcome back to another offseason edition of Metcast. As always, I am Ray and if you’re enjoying this content, make sure you smash that like button, become a subscriber, and turn on those notifications so you never miss any of the Mets news. And that is why I’m coming to you now and not on a live because I was at the Queens baseball convention today, the QVC over in Queens where I got to meet so many of the great media personalities, Andy Martino, Salacotta, if you guys are paying attention over on social medias and many, many more. It was great to see all the guys. Check in with Terry Collins again. And be sure guys, if you want to be or have your voices heard on our live streams, become a member. It’s in the description below. And with that said, George Palano, Jorge Palano, two years, $40 million over from Seattle. And let’s be real, he was one of their more clutch players throughout the season. A switch hitter who we just got reports suggesting the Mets are going to play him primarily at first base. And DH, I’ll tell you this, not a huge fan of him as a first baseman. You look at his defensive metrics over at baseball. Savant, his fielding leaves a lot to be desired. Range 17th percentile, arm strength 20 percentile. And when you look at his defense as an overall, you know, it it it’s not impressive. That’s why I look at it. His fielding value is actually in the negative. That’s how bad he is. But as a DH, that’s where I like this move. And hang in there with me. You look at his his splits as a switch hitter last year. If he could simply replicate what he did last year, I would be all over it. Overall, 26526 homers and a 821 OPS. And this is where we look at it. His numbers are kind of lower against righties, but that’s where the power is. 254 overall, 366 at bats, and you have 21 homers coming from that, and 20 doubles. And then you look at them verse lefties, you’re like, “Well, he’s only got five homers and 10 doubles.” Out of 105 at bats, the guy’s hitting 305. And you guys all know I love my OPS against righties 802. Against lefties, 888. So he’s mashing both from the left and right side. And when you look at Seattle and what the fans are saying over there and what their media is saying over there, they did as much as they could to retain him. So, look, if you’re telling me George Palano’s RDH, I am all over it. And that should not excuse the Mets from going out and acquiring another big bat or two, dare I say. And what this move does is something that we have spoken a lot on this program. You cannot bring in a left-handed DH because it kills your prospects of bringing in a Cody Bellinger or a Kyle Tucker cuz Carson Bench is a lefty. Brett Batty’s a lefty. Juan Sono’s a lefty. Jeff McNeel’s a lefty. Bringing in another switch hitter. You have Londor is a switch hitter. It allows you a ton of flexibility. But I want to get to somebody’s comments and qu uh reaction. Salakata over at the QVC gave us his reaction. Let’s take a look. I love the addition of Jorge Blanco. Now, he’s not Pete Alonzo. We know that nobody’s going to be Pete Alonzo, but he’s an athlete and an athlete that performed at a high level in clutch situations in the postseason with Seattle. Versatile. He’s going to be the Mets first baseman apparently. Can hit with some pop, but just the fact that Sterns is going to try to build this team with some ball players, some athletes. It’s not going to make you feel better about losing Pete. That’s is not what this is. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t make this team better. It’s a nice start in trying to build this team out post the core of NMO and Pete Alonzo. And I am in total agreement with S. And one thing we stressed last year, how many times did we watch the Mets DH hit six or seventh or eighth in the lineup. When you have a DH that hits in the bottom third of your lineup, they’re simply not good. Now, I’m not saying George Palano needs to be Juan Sto’s protection because I think that’d be a big mistake on this team. But he is a lock. And when I say a lock, a lock to hit in the top five of this lineup. And it’s a two-year deal. So the Mets are not locked in long-term. Clearly that appears to be the route that Sterns is going. Guys that are in their 30s, he’s willing to go two or three years as we have seen. But the four, five, sixyear deals are not happening. But I do say Kyle Tucker, who’s 29 years old, I would give an eight-year deal to. I absolutely would. 89th percentile arm, as we’ve seen in the past, a okay defender. Nothing great, but a very solid defender. better than what NMA was out there. But the bat speaks for itself. The Mets have a chance to make and save the off season from what it was. But enough of that. Now I want to get to another report over from John Haymon of all guys comes out earlier today. The New York Mets and the Padres’s have been involved with multiple players including Mason Miller and other teams. something John put out there very very interesting teams are calling in regard to the availability of Jonah tongue and listen guys before you shoot the messenger I’m open for business but it better be a major major piece you trying to get Tatis back here a Mason Miller a guy who’s the hardest throwing closer in the game under tea control for a couple of years that’s the kind of prospect you’re looking to give up Sterns is no fool he knows Devin Williams cannot close out games by himself in the back end of that bullpen. We watched Robert Suarez get signed yesterday by the Atlanta Braves and that guys to me very simple signals. David Peterson knows a lot of stuff needs to be done and whether or not you trust Bob Nightingale or not who earlier reported the trade market should be robust this year. Clearly San Diego is looking to shed salary. Now I don’t want to give any credence to the rumors that are out there. We’ve seen a lot of them. the Lindor swap for Tatis and Bogarts because San Diego’s trying to save money. Getting a right-handed outfield bat that is a premium bat like Tatis changes everything because you do have Ryan Clifford, the New York Mets top rated first base prospect in AAA with raw power and he’s another lefty lefty. You guessed it. So that is why it’s so imperative that the Mets fill in the outfield with the proper power and switch to pitching. I actually think the Mets are going to move either Brandon Sprro or Tongue. And from everything that I’m hearing, it’s clear as day. Jonah Tong’s value is way higher than Brandon Sprro, but nobody’s surprised by that. Look at the age difference. It’s nice that Sprro throws a bazillion miles an hour, but I’ve said it for a while. I’m not saying Tong won’t be a great pitcher. I don’t know. But his mechanics scare the heck out of me. It’s very hard to repeat that. It’s also very hard to coach it. Allah Tim Lindum. Everyone loves to compare Jonah Tong to Tim Lindicum. But remember, when its mechanics went out, the Giants were forced to call in his dad because nobody, and I mean nobody, knew how to deal with this guy’s mechanics. But we’ll see what ends up happening. Make sure you guys like and subscribe if you’re still here. Thanks so much for sticking around. We’ll be sure to bring you all the latest in regard to the New York Mets content. As always, let’s go Mets. God bless. [Music]

  1. I don't believe they brought in Polanco to be the 1B, I think they signed him to be the DH and Vientos is on the way out, they'll still need to get a bat in that plays 1B and another OF. So many directions Stearns can take, hard to predict which way he's headed. Would love to see Tatis from SD.

  2. Big acquisition lmao a big signing would be Alonzo Paralto is nimmo replacement who had less hr and rbi s then nimmo big deal still no pitching Stearns keeps this up and we may not finish last

  3. So here’s where we’re at : nimmo $20m / Diaz 22m / Pete 30m =98 ft 5.102 in 72m
Siemien – $30m (after the increase lux tax of 110% cuz he made 7m more than nimmo so it’s 14M more) / Willam’s 17m / polanco 20m =67m. So we saved $3m a year and replaced those 3 with these 3. Are the Mets better for the exact same money??? FK NO!!!

  4. Stop acting like you’re excited. He doesn’t adequately replace Alonso….and what about the BS about not bringing back Alonso because of his defense. Nothing excites me about this crap. We were better last year. There’s no sugar coating it…Stearns f¥€ked up this team.

  5. Polanco is not an athlete. He is below average to avg as far as Sprint speed but his base running knowledge is above average. He will not steal your bases and he is (From what Seattle Mariner fans are saying); a poor infielder with below average range and a bad arm. In spring of 2025, they were interested in using him at first base and somehow decided to get a first baseman instead. They even got a third baseman as well. And he was playing third base. This indicates to me that he is a DH, he is not an athlete, and he is simply here to replace nimmo production but at DH.

He's a good hitter however and he's also clutch

  6. Come on, what big signing are you talking about? Is this SMUCK better on offense and defense than ALONSO? Is he as durable as ALONSO? Can he carry a team like ALONSO did? Can he protect SOTO in the lineup like ALONSO did? Can he bring fans to the park like ALONSO did? Will he be as good for team chemistry like ALONSO was? 40 millions for 2yrs another MONTAS deal. Wasn't run prevention a priority for 2026 according to the evil GRINCH STINGY STEARNS and also getting more younger and agilr? You mean to tell me that you're extatic over this crap? WHAT KIND OF A METS' FAN ARE YOU? THE ONLY TGAT CAN EASILY BE LIED TO AND CONVINCED BY THE EVIL GRINCH STINGY STEARNS? WHERE THE HELL ARE YOUR PRINCIPLES AS A FAN??

  7. If this is exciting for you, you might get a heart attack if they sign Tucker or traded for Tatis… Polanco is ok.. we need a few more ball players just to be good. Sterns is not giving out any long term contracts to anyone this offseason.

  8. The only things that could even get me to lose hope as a Mets fan would be for uncle Steve to sell the team and for us to trade away our farm for click bait for Mets podcasters and a sugar rush for the naive fans amongst us. We have a chance at a dynasty here guys, but we must must KEEP our farm. Not doing so would be settling for less and foolish to say the very least. “INSTANT GRATIFICATION RETARDS THE PROCESS” Unquote.
