FULL GAME: Kyle Schwarber CRUSHES FOUR HOMERS and had chance for No. 5! πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£πŸ’£βŒ (Braves vs. Phillies)

NBC 10 News First Alert Weather. The most accurate forecast 10 years in a row. 75 degrees. It’s been cloudy for most of the day, although looking out over Center City. It’s pretty bright right now, but it’s been comfortable. Little breeze, humidity at 44%. Aaron’s already come in from the bullpen as he readies to head out there. The umpires for tonight’s ball game. The man with the greatest name in the history of umpire names behi besides Malachi is Brock Belaloo. He’s behind home plate. Alfonso Marquez is the crew chief. He’s at first base. Lance Barrett’s at second base and Carlos Torres is around at third. Walt Weiss is exchanging the lineup cards for the Atlanta Braves. The snapshot for the uh Braves is that they’re 61 and 72. There’s 15 games behind the Phils. They haven’t missed the postseason since 2017. They’ve lost a lot of guys. I mean, lost S for a long period of time. They’ve obviously lost Austin Riley. I mean, the injuries have really mounted for them. They didn’t have a Kuna Jr. at the beginning of the season. And Matt Olsen’s not having a typical Matt Olsson year. Just 20 home runs. Here’s Brian Snicker. Freddy Gonzalez. Gonzalez was added back to the coaching staff midway through this season. Brian 10th season is the Braves skipper. 796 wins, 654 losses. Yeah. Last year their team erra John was 3.49 and this year it’s 4.33. That’s a lot of their issues but they have played better here in the month of August. That’s made life a little bit more tolerable for them. In fact, they have the second best record of the National League East since the All-Star break to the Phillies. Yeah, when you look at how his lineup’s constructed, Brian Snitker that is, but you know, you got Matt Olsen hitting second. Normally he’s hitting fourth uh you know behind Marcelo Zuna who’s hitting seventh tonight because of his struggles and you know you don’t want to root against anyone but those struggles continue that be good for the Phils lover taking the mound for the Phils take a look at his numbers 12th start of the year two at seven he picked up his first win since May in his last outing his 6.52 erra. Tonight is his 281st career game which will slide him past Grover Cleveland Alexander. Wow. Of the Phillies alltime list which is headed by Steve Carlton who has 499 games. Statcast powered by Google Cloud gives us a look at the Arsenal. John Force was uh was hefty his last time out but his his curveball was really good his last time. Yeah, his knuckle curve was spectacular in his last start. And I think against this Braves lineup, the change up also has to be uh thrown more than normal for Aaron. But his last start, T was he was moving the ball in and out really well against both the righties and the lefties. But you said at the knuckle curve was the one that got a lot of these Nationals hitters out in front and swinging through it. There’s one to James Wood and Cruz right there. They ran that that two seamer sinker right in on the knuckles of Cruz to get a strike out. And he has to do the same thing tonight. Doesn’t matter who the opponent is. Aaron has to pitch the way he he’s capable of pitching, but the way he’s comfortable pitching also. Certainly has faced the Braves a lot during his career. Here’s the Braves lineup brought to you by Xfinity. The Wi-Fi is booming. Proofar leads it off and then Matt Olsen. Ronald Akuna Jr. bats third. They’ve kind of shifted things the last couple games despite winning two of three for the Marlins. They moved Drake Baldwin to the cleanup spot. And Michael Harris, who had been batting cleanup, who was smoking hot out of the All-Star break, has cooled off recently. He slides down to the number six spot. All right, here we go. Phillies four games up in the division. The Mets are playing the Marlins starting tonight. Now the first pitch is brought to you by Bryant. Whatever it takes and Juriken Proofar will lead things off. He was four for 10 against the Marlins with two home runs. He has been smoking hot in the month of August. He has nine home runs and is hitting 322 since the 2nd of August. We got an issue. Yeah, we already do. JT’s transmitter is not transmitting. transmitter is uh out of juice. Must have brought the one from New York. Didn’t charge it on the bus. Did not charge it on the bus. That could have kept you busy, John, if you wanted to keep it charged on the bus. Yeah, it was it was a, you know, pleasant ride back. Yeah, it’s always a good ride back when you get swept and you get stuck at the GW bridge. Got stuck at the bridge. Yeah. Just the upper level was open to buses. No strikeouts in franchise history. So Aaron can move past Cole Hamls with a solid night tonight. Here we go. Game one. Durixen Proofar ready to go. So is Aaron. And the first pitch. Fast ball in there for strike. And it’s 0 and one. Right out of the gate. That’s a 92 mph fast. That’s not too bad. Phillies have not seen ProFar this year because he was suspended inside one and one. Aaron lifetime against the Braves is 16 and 11 with a 3.59 RA. Decent pitch just off the plate. ball on the outside corner. Proar’s not real happy with that call and uh yeah, he thought it was off the plate and uh he you know he’s right. That’s tough. They talk about difference between 3-1 and 22. Yeah, we we we’ve discussed that a lot in the Mets series. He fouls it. It remains two and two. Broar, we said, was suspended earlier in the year when the Phillies and the Braves faced each other. It was an 80game suspension as part of Major League Baseball’s uh violation of performance-enhancing drugs. Curve ball hit into the into right center field for a base hit. So, he’s aboard and that starts this first inning. Philly’s defense, the outfield, which we’re kind of getting used to with the right-hander on the mound, has Kepler in right, Bader in center, and Marsh in left field. And Matt Olsen coming up. Olsson, seven hits lifetime against Aaron with three doubles and a couple home runs. I feel like he’s in a little bit more of even a crouch than he than usual. You know, the stance is similar, but there’s I don’t know, there’s just a little tinkering it looks like in his stance this year, at least in this start of this game. 0 and one. One and one. You do have to keep an eye on Proar. I’m not sure if he’s going to run, but he’s eight of nine as he continues to make up for lost time being on the suspended list. That’s a good pitch. Wow. Two and one. JT’s already talking to him and Philly’s bench is getting on him, too. Snack 3D shows us the trail and it gets the inside part of the plate. Good pitch and Aaron needs that pitch. It’s the spot where Profar’s ball was that they called a strike. So, it’s three and one. If you’re not going to give the inside pitch that that catches the strike zone, you got to, you know, you would think that if you’re going by 17 in that the outside part, if it’s just off, has to be a strike. And ball four puts two on with nobody out here in the first inning. And Ronald Akuna Jr.’s coming up. Our sengate parlay brought to you by FanDuel. The money line is on the Phils. For Akuna to homer, it’s plus 290. And for Alec, who’s got a hitting streak since he came back to record two hits or more, it’s plus 165. You’re looking at danger already in this first inning. Yeah, because Akuna Jr.’s he’s hot right now. He’s reached base safely in eight of his last 11 plate appearances. Well, no use complaining. It’s going to be that way. It’s going to be a mystery. Not a thriller, not a comedy. Comedy. Going to be a mystery. It’s going to be a mystery. 0 and two. Yesterday, Akuna became the first Braves since Dale Murphy in 83 to reach base five times in the game despite not getting a hit. He was hit and he walked four times. 0 and two. We’ll have to wait. In fact, the hit by pitch kind of led to I mean the benches rolled out. There was no punches thrown or anything like that. Playing they were playing the the Marlins. Playing the Marlins. Doesn’t he always get hit against the Marlins? It does seem like it. You know, it goes back to the Rainia guy. One and two. Too quiet in here right now. It’s very quiet. Yep. Two and two. Well, talked about the bullpen, huh? 15 pitches already for Aaron. No outs. Nice to roll a double play and get that pitch count back to somewhere normal. Popped up down the right field line. Harper in Scott. Harper foul territory. Makes the catch and one away. That was a good job by Bryce because Bryson and Kepler weren’t going to get there. No, they shade Okuna Jr. up the middle rightfully so. Not that he can’t hit it that way, but yeah, Bryce went a long way. Stay with that. You know, those outfield skills come in play every once in a while, Tom. Well, now Drake Baldwin, who’s had himself a solid rookie season, 276, 14 home runs, takes a wicked curve for strike, 0 and one. He’s tied for third among rookies and homers and second in RBI’s. Nice to see get that thing running away from him. See if you can’t get a 463 double play here. Well, he tried. I think that’s the pitch Aaron needs cuz like you said, you know, these guys can swing the bat. I I think that change up has to be utilized a lot a lot more than what he normally throws it. left pitch and the other one is the sinker right there. He didn’t get it with Olsen is to get that off the left the hip of the right hand the left-handers. Baldwin splits this year. Two and one. Two and two. Now, is he taking over the basically the everyday catcher? Touches more often than Murphy. Yeah, Shawn Murphy. They have used him to DH. He flicks this one into center field for a base hit. Proar went but then hesitated. So he’ll be stopped at third. It’ll be f it’ll be bases loaded now with one out and Bader got it in quickly. Yeah, like you said, Proar had to freeze on that ball there for just that split second and that’s what kept is that Freddy Gonzalez down there coaching third. Yep. He just Baldwin just reaches out and punches one into center field. But with ProAR having to hold up, which rightfully so, he couldn’t score. Talking two hits in a walk and no runs scored yet. So nice see Aussie Alb’s help us out here with a double play or something. Not very good for them. Wire cam brought to you by Defy. Gave us a look at that base hit. Cal Gotham’s had himself some first inning trips recently, hasn’t he? Yeah, and he might have some more. 21 pitches already for Aaron. So far, Aaron’s allowed six runs in the first inning of games this year. He’s got the bases loaded and one out. And all beasts Swinging a foul. Alb’s 19 hits, five doubles versus Nola in his career. He has he’s hit 321 in his last 13 games with eight extra base hits. And he will swing early and often. Now he’s the one you think you could run that two seamer in off his hips. He stands right on top of home plate. There you go. That was a four seamer. to try to run on it. See the numbers the last 13 since the All-Star break. Schwarber has the most RBI’s. He has the third most RBI’s. One ball, one strike, one and two. Hardest ball he’s thrown so far in this inning. So he threw two four seamers in. One in for a ball, one in for a foul ball. This would I think to me would be a perfect time to throw that two seamer. Just missed. Fans know Brock Belaloo’s name, so they’re they’re barking it at barking at him right now. Is that what they’re Yeah. Come on, Brock. Oh, I thought they were going Boo instead of Beloo. Three and two inside ball four. He walked in a run. So, one- nothing Braves and it brings Michael Harris to the plate. Again, we mentioned Harris since the All-Star break has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball, but he has cooled off recently. Three for his last 27. Oh, and one to him. 0 and2 95. Yeah, I think Aaron’s kind of upset with himself a little bit. That one’s out toward right field. Kepler started in. Now he goes back. It’s over his head and it’s off the scoreboard. One run is in. They’re going to wave Baldwin. The throw goes towards second. It’s a two-run single for Harris. It’s three nothing Braves. Whether he came in or went back, he wasn’t going to catch that ball. No, that ball was scorched by Michael Harrison. Short hops or hits off the fence. But watch out. Watch Baldwin there at second. And Ozie Alves had to stop cuz he didn’t know Freddy was going to wave him. And then once you saw Freddy waving, Albz gets to third base. Wow. Now Ozuna with one man down. Three nothing. Braves on top. Now we’re getting into a danger zone with the number of pitches that he’s thrown in this inning, too. Absolutely. And you know, you got a guy that Ozuna is a pretty good hitter. Now he’s 200. I know he’s not having a great year, but don’t mean he get two on him, you’re going to have a chance of getting him out. Two and one. Zuna’s numbers against Aaron. He has 15 hits, four home runs against Aaron. See if he can roll into a double play here. Need it badly. 35th pitch of the inning for Aaron. Shutter goes and stops and a call. Strike three on the outside corner. Yeah, perfectly located by Aaron. They got that two seamer and he throws against the right or right left-handed hitters. Starts at their hip and comes back. This one started off the plate and brought it back on the outside part to Ozuna. And that’s I mean you can disagree all you want but that that’s a heck of a pitch. Well now Nacho Alvarez and he takes a strike. Alvarez who ina this year hit 254 played in 18 games in Triple A and then Braves he’s played for in 30 games. Runner goes from first. Pitch taken outside. Throw to second base. And here comes Alby’s. The throw to the plate. He is out at home plates. The Braves will look at it. He’s not going to review it. Not going to check it. Well, that was huge. The Phillies give up three runs in the inning. Could have been worse. The put out goes 242 to get Azie Alb’s at home. Good throw by Stomp to finish it off. Phillies may have gotten a break that the Braves didn’t challenge this. It’s three nothing Atlanta. It looks like Alby’s hand is on the plate before the tag was there. And here’s the overhead of it. Wow, that was close. That I guess they deemed it too close. Maybe they thought they couldn’t overturn it. There was enough not enough there to overturn it. Yeah, maybe cuz he was ruled he was ruled out. So they probably thought, well, maybe there, you know, it was too close. And the first inning maybe they two to Trey Turner. Cal Plantro, who the Phillies have seen already this year when he was with the Marlins. This is his second start with the Braves since the Marlins waved him outside. One and two. Four and a third and four and two/3s in his only start with the Braves. Three runs, five hits, five walks. Those are his numbers overall. He did have a 15game stretch with the Marlins when they were hot and he was hot. He had an RA of 3.55 during that time. Fly ball right field. Auna is over and he makes the catch. Rest of the Phillies lineup brought to you by Wi-Fi brought to you by Exfinity. The Wi-Fi is booming. Schwarber, Harper, Real Mutoo, Marsh, Bone, Kepler, and Bader and Bryson’s stock. Kyle is Ofer’s last 20. Ofer’s last 22 is his longest stretch without a base hit in his career. That was back in 2022. Takes low. His last hit was his 45th home run of the year against Seattle on August 20th. Sure. For Kyle, that seems like three months ago. Etho. Tell you what, they’re that’s going to be not called all night for both pitchers. That’s going to be trouble. That’s going to be a high-scoring game. You would think to whack that one foul. Rover is tied for first in the National League in home runs. Still first in RBI’s. And that one is smoked deep to right field toward the second deck. So the home run for Kyle Schwarber, his 46th of the year. It’s his fifth home run in his last 10 games against the Braves. Now that helps that Quantro threw a couple down the zone and he didn’t get the call. And that this 2-1 pitch was just a hanger and exactly what Kyle needed. Tom, what not only Kyle needed, the Phillies team needed it. And 450 ft into the second deck. That thing was still going up when it went to the second deck. Wow. And now Harper. Harper has 45 career home runs against the Braves. That home run was Schwarber’s 46th overall. And you see he’s got his bat already. So once this inning’s over, he’s probably going to go back down into the cage and take some swings. See the numbers for Bryce. He’s hitted 10 straight games. opposite way. Base hit where nobody’s standing. Shift that one, baby. Yeah, Harper’s hitting streak is up to 11. Now JT, another guy that we need to get going, Tom. And Quantrol, that’s not a bad pitch up and up and in on the upper part of the strike zone. And you try to pull that ball, Tom, you’re going to see shrapnel all over the field. But he worked his hands nicely on that one. Let’s see uh see what else we got working here. Yeah, JT was 0 for 12 with five strikeouts against the Mets. And that one is blasted deep to left field. It is into the second deck. rival second deck home runs and JT has just tied this ball game up in the first. It’s a 33 game. Dorothy said it best, Tom. There’s no place like home. That’s right. That’s two second deck home runs from two guys who came in struggling mightily. What a great answer back by the Philadelphia Phillies right here. And he ain’t done yet. Yeah, 11 home runs and Marsh bunts toward third and he’s going to have a base hit. Tell you what, he was playing in close was Alvarez. I don’t know if I wonder if he tried to love that instead of trying to barehand it. But hey, it knocks a knock. Well, now Alec Bald Alvarez kind of looks a little like Eddie Perez, doesn’t he? Yeah, he does look like Eddie Perez. Hey, he does look like Eddie. Maybe it is. Put a different name and number on. Yeah, what the heck? Well, he is really guarding the line against Alec. Alec 286. He’s hitting 10 straight, 14 hits since his return. takes a strike. 0 and one. Well, that’s a nice jolt by the Phils. Four straight hits. Amazing how quickly booze can’t went to cheers, huh? Yeah. Over to third. Backhanded by Bruhan. He throws out Marsh. Yeah. Fielder’s choice. And now Kepler’s coming up. This might be a good matchup for Max. I feel good about Max tonight. All right. Well, he’s got five hits, including a double and a home run against Poncho. Calantrol’s dad, Paul you played for the Phillies and a number of other teams. Good teammate. Played with the Phils in 94 and 95. He had your back all the time. Well, but you know, Lenny and I were sitting in our lockers when we got him and he came in, walked over. He didn’t say, “Hey, nice to meet you. I’m Paul.” You know, whatever. and we didn’t. He just said, “Hey, if there’s anyone on the other team you don’t like, let me know and I’ll drill them.” I’m like, “Okay, we’ll keep you posted outside and now three and one to Kepler.” By the way, it’s the third time this year the Phillies have hit multiple home runs in the first inning. They did it on June 3rd at Toronto and July 22nd against the Red Sox. I bet they both didn’t go as far as those two went. Yeah, one went 450. The other one went 420. I thought JTS went farther than that. That wasn’t to the second deck, although it is a little closer. A foul. 423 to be official on it. John B will be off and running on this pitch. There he goes. That one is hit well deep to right field and the Phillies have taken the lead. Three home runs here in the first inning. Kepler’s 14th of the year. It’s 53 Phillies, man. Like a looked like a cutter right there from Cal Quantro. And Max just beat him to the punch right there. Boy, that’s a beautiful swing. Max has now hit an eight of 10. And Bader takes in. Might as well keep adding on. Yeah, really. One and one. We talk about a much needed first. My gosh, Aaron certainly needed the breather and now he needs the support off the hands. Fouled back beyond home plate and it’s caught by Baldwin and the inning is over. But the damage is done. The Phillies score five runs in the inning. They get three home runs. First it was Kyle Schwarber. That went 450. Then it was JT. That went 423. And then it was Kepler. It went into the Knights. 5-3 Phillies as we go to the top of the second inning. Phillies had five hits yesterday. No extra base hits. Today they had five hits and three extra base hits. Our Citizen stats leaders most strikeouts versus the Braves. Aaron Nolas climbing on that list since 1994. Strawber leads that at 238. Deg Grom can still add to his whenever he faces them. I don’t think Cole’s going to pitch against him again. Well, if given the opportunity, he might. He looks like he could. No kidding. Sickening. Nacho Alvarez will lead it off. He was up when the Phillies were able to throw out. Alb’s trying to steal home, but it’s 0 and one Alvarez, which again we we showed it. It was could have gone either way. Yeah, Alvarez 233. No home runs, six RBI’s outside. Pretty good pitch. Swing and a miss. One and two. Yeah, it’ be nice for Aaron to get have a quick inning right here. Like you said, he already at 40 pitches out over the Phillies dugout. I mean, you’d have to think that uh you know, if you get into the middle inning, Sweet Lou will be available, right? Line I think Lou will be available. He has worked three straight days in the minor leagues. So, not many guys do that in the minor leagues. Swing and a miss. Second strike out for Aaron. Continues to climb up the list. Yeah, the old knuckle curve, Tom. And that baby was little 79 mph piece down and away. Two strikes. You got an aggressive young young hitter up there. All right, he’s two away from tying Cole. There’s a ground ball to first base as Harper stabs it. That is useful. Introducing the Exfinity 5-year price guarantee. Get one consistent price for the next 5 years with no annual contracts or curveballs. Here’s Profar should say he ties Cole with one. He needs two to break the mark and move into third all by himself. Trailed Cole by three coming in. That one’s back over our heads. We were ready for it though, John. Oh yeah, we were. We have to ask Cole about this if Aaron passes him today. Last on Saturday. Yeah, we’ll Yeah. No, we won’t. We’ll go right at him. Maybe we do it in the open. He takes my superhero pen. I got one for Luke Williams. Is Luke here? I didn’t see Luke. I I thought I saw him in the dugout, but we’ll ask uh Kevin Steinau if Luke Williams is around. Luke was on the injured list. He’s pitched a lot this year. One and two. Line drive out to center field. Baders coming on, makes the catch and a one, two, three second inning for Aaron Nola. He threw 10 pitches in that inning and that was needed. We’ll head to the bottom of the second. Bryson Scott will lead it off. Well, we partnered with Defy to bring you this view from the wire cam at Citizens Bank Park. Watch Dusty run out to co his coaching position. Yeah, it’s a good look at Dusty. You can see his style. Yeah, Eric Michaels down in the clubhouse and Danny Oor each have confirmed that Luke Williams is here and he’ll be prepared to accept your pen, your Captain America pen. Perfect. Love it. You got to get into him before Cole steals it. Here’s Bryson Stodd who takes strike one. Just met Kate Flannry, the actress from The Office. She is a huge Philly fan. Yeah, no kidding. But she had a unique way of uh describing her character. Well, and she’s right that that her character, she was that. Yeah, if we can’t bring it up, but that’s her sister right there to the right. Murf’s out there. He’s the tour guide. Larry’s here. pitching out pitches outside one and two. She went to Archbishop Carol. Should have asked her if she’s going to be in that new show. I like swamp people in wrestling. You would love it. That one’s pulled out to right center field. Akuna is there to make the catch. It’s funny. Stream your fils when you’re on the go with the NBC Sports app presented by Lundy Law, your injury lawyers. All right. So, Trey Turner leads it off or steps in now. He let it off and fly out to right field before the Phillies scored the five runs. off the hands back toward the middle. Backheaded by Albees. He made a nice play. He was shaded that way. It made it a little easier. But with Trey hustling the way he does, you know, makes a little tougher. Our Hyundai defensive play of the game. If Trey got jammed a lot of times on right, he gets jammed. He doesn’t get out of the box as well as he normally does. And you know, Aussie Alb understands the clock uh you know how fast Trey is and he caught that ball with no step and fired it over to Olsson at first. Fly ball center field. That’s a quick inning into the twilight and Harris who uh makes the catch right at the foot of where the stage was a couple weeks ago. Eight pitch inning. Then and then earlier this season after coming back when his Achilles or they thought he had an Achilles issue also. Yeah. So many gifts out to right. Not that deep. Kepler is in over but he grabs it. Sounded like a may have broken his pad on that. Yeah, it got in on him again. back in the first inning. Try to change up. I think that’s the one pitch, John, that hasn’t come all the way back for for Aaron. Yeah. Now we go to the bottom of the third inning. Then Bryce Harper, JT Realm Mutoo, Brandon Marsh, those are the scheduled hitters against Cal Quantrol. That one’s whacked deep to right field. Akuna doesn’t even move. Another second deck home run. Towering shots. 22 on the year for Bryce. And the Phillies lead it six-3. 442 ft. The Phillies have hit three home runs that have gone into the second deck. Two in right, one in left. Yeah. And again, it’s, you know, we talk about this a lot, Tom, with Bryce. When he’s on balance, he can hit the ball to all fields and hit the ball to all fields with power. And he got out front of that one. My gosh. second deck. That’s two Ronald Akuna hadn’t moved on yet. But JT the batter, he’ll take outside. One and0. He’s hit four home runs in the first three innings. Way up there on the infield. Whoa, he had it. Nacho Alvarez makes the catch that brings Brandon Marsh up. What do you got, Ter? Well, you want to talk about some urgency. Uh Rob Thompson was asked about comments that Bryce Harper made about the Phillies continuing to play with urgency despite having that lead in the division. And Rob Thompson said this rally house quote, “These guys want to win. They want to perform. They want to win a world championship. That’s what they play for. A lot of these guys, they haven’t done it yet. Even though they’ve been paid a great deal of money, they haven’t won. So, that’s on their mind. And they want to get it done. And so far, early in this game, they’re trying to show you, Tom, just how badly they want to bounce back to try to get it done. Yeah, no doubt. No doubt. It’s It’s been nice to see a long ball. They live with the long ball a lot. Swinging a miss. Low and two. One and two. foul back. The last series against the Mets, eight total runs tonight, six runs. Do it with two. I win the battle. I mean, he struggled to start the year. Yeah. He’s more upright. He’s got the weight on his front toe or, you know, he’s on on his front toe kind of like Wanoto. Yeah. Where it’s turned in a little bit. Yeah. I don’t remember his hands ever being that high. See the first half he had 210 and that even got better as he got closer to the end of the first half. He had been 0 for his last seven. It’s now 73 Bills. Yeah. See, that’s what you like right there. You know, infield in you hit a hard line drive unless it’s right at them. They they’re not going to catch it. But, you know, when Bryson has that that swing path with that mentality of I’m going to hit it hard on the line or on the ground, he’s going to have a lot more success than what he’s had this year. Let’s see if he’s runnerish. Ray Turner leads it off. Steps up as the leadoff hitter. He’s 0 for two. Fly out to right. Grounded out to second. Oh wow, Montro got quick feet. It’s the 12th of the year for Kyle against a left-handed reliever. That’s since 2000, of course, with Bonds. And then you got Don Hurst in 1929 who had 18. I didn’t know they had they face at relievers that much back then. Oh, wait. I’m sorry. Don Hurst is against left-handed pitching. That’s a starter against relievers. Oh, okay. So, you’re talking So, Larry’s confusing you again with another question. No, it’s my that’s my fault. No, let’s blame Larry. He’s tied now with Hurst overall with 18. Oh, everyone has scored a run. No, Marsh. Dang it. Everyone but Marsh, right? Yeah, we’ll get him back out there again. Now he’s going to have a few more bats the way this is going. Kepler is homered. He’s also flat out to center off Kepler’s home run. This was a sweet swing. Yeah, it really was. He got on the board early too in the first inning off Cal Quantrol. Yes, it does. Philly scored three and then the Mets scored 13 unanswered. Oh, and two to Bader. Tell you what I like about it is Aaron struggles in the first inning. You thought, “Oh boy, here we go.” 37 pitches in the first season high for Aaron. Ground ball back toward the middle. Another base hit for Bader. Bryson stops coming up. Let’s check in with Taran. Well, I I know Tom mentioned, “Let’s see Bryce hit one hard.” Hit one though. Excuse me, John. I apologize, guys. Uh, but it was funny because it was something I talked to Kevin Long about. I asked what’s the approach with Bryson Scott lately and the way he’s moved his hand down on the bat. He said he’s just got to lower his launch angle. I’ve told him so many times, getting missing under the ball, it’s not your game. It’s not going to be your game if you’re going to find success. I told him I went a lot of his hits have been hard ground balls. I want you to continue to try to keep your launch angle low and hit it hard, guys. And that time he lifts it out to short left field. And Proofar makes the catch. You know, the thing about it, too, is when when we talked to Bryson about that same thing, he said, “You know, my hands started going up and I didn’t even realize they were up as high as they were.” I guess that happens during the course of the season. Yeah, you can get out of whack. Trey Turner back toward the middle off the mound flipped up by Albies and he can’t get the toss to Bruhan. It’s going to be interesting to see how this is scored. Glad that Bruhim would just Just bad timing on those two’s part. That might that could have possibly been a double play if he’d have led Bruhan, but how do we know? They give it a hit. It’s a hit. Keep them powder blues on, baby. outside two and two. But you notice how the powder blues don’t like really like when we’re we’re wearing a gray in New York and Harrison Bader with the neon pink batting glove. They’re more subtle with the uh powder blue. You know, boy, girl, powder blue. It kind of mixes mixes in pretty good. It really does. That one’s the opposite way. Profar’s going back. It’s carrying pretty well. It is gone. It’s a three home run nights. It’s his fourth one of his career. He decided to go oppo 153 Bills. And this place is going crazy as you would imagine. This has been all pent up. How about how that ball carried and not a smile on his face. Hey, he probably can get two more at bats, too. That’s a strong human. 48 home runs. keeps adding to his RBI lead as well. Six RBI’s. Six RBI’s. 116 on the year. His careerhigh of RBI is seven in the game. He doesn’t give up abs, does he? Mm-m. The time the Phillies have hit six home runs or more in a game against the Braves was in the postseason in 2023. That was game three. That was a festive day. Yeah. Oh, and one swinging a bit. So two swing and a miss and JT’s down on strikes. But again, damage for the Phils. They scored three more runs on Kyle Schwarber’s third home run of the night. Two to right and one to left. Our Independence Blue Cross Philly of the week is Trey Turner. Trey has been on fire in August, putting together a standout month with a 347 average. Three homers, 17 RBI’s, and seven stolen bases so far. Turner’s leading the National League in hits this season and is on the cusp of the National League batting title. Something a Philly hasn’t done since 1958. Trey’s consistency at the plate is brought to you by Independence Blue Cross. Well, that bell has rung a bunch of times already today. Six times for the Phillies. It’s a nice way to start a four game series against the Atlanta Braves. And lost in all of this is the fact that that guy is still out on the mound and has really started to throw strikes, minimize his pitch count, and front run. Yeah, we didn’t think after that first inning that he was going to be pitching into the sixth, but yet here he is. And you know, to get six innings out of Aaron after how many did you throw in the first inning? 37. They’re facing a team that has been hot offensively. They just took two of three from the Marlins. And the thing is, too, is he he’s had a lot of time to sit. You know, first inning, Phillies score five. Fourth inning, they score six. Change a pitcher, you know, the whole thing. He’s he’s had some time to sit. Those up down things that they talk about. Mhm. Two and one. Since the All-Star break, John, the Braves have been 19 and 19 despite all their injuries, their pitching injuries, their position player injuries. So, yeah, that’s the second best record in the National League East to the Phils. That one’s hit well out to right field. Kepler’s back and it is gone. Right into the first row for Matt Olsen. It’s his 21st of the year. First one against the Phillies this season. And it’s his 15th here at Citizens Bank Park overall. 154 knuckle curve. It just stayed in the middle of the plate. Olson’s not having his typical offensive year with the 30 40 homers and 120 RBI seasons that he’s that he has had. He’s still dangerous. So, it’s 15 to four. That home run is the uh 14th allowed by Aaron this year. Since the start of 2022, Matt Olsen has the most home runs. That includes playoffs. versus the Phils at Citizens Bank Park. More than Pete Alonzo, more than Brandon NMO. They were two and three. Two and0 to Akuna Jr. Three and0. Believe he was taken all the way. Might have been. Yep. Might have been. Can you imagine if he’d have swung three 0 and popped it off? Down 11. And he’s swinging here if he likes one. And now the 3-2 pitch. tokuna swing and a miss. He got him and Aaron Nola moves into third place all time in Philly’s history in strikeouts with that curve ball right there. And now that was a good one. The one Olsson was a hanger. That one there is a really good Aaron Nola knuckle curve. He just threw that ball out, huh? I don’t know if if he knows, but he may he may not even know. He might not. No. No. And Aaron 1,845 career strikeouts. He slides right past Cole Hamls. They’re going to authenticate it. They ain’t going to give it back to him. No, they’re going to authenticate it then give it back to him. Okay, good. Phil’s going to do all kinds of cool things with him in the clubhouse. Phil Sheridan. Yeah. Like what? Artwork. I don’t know if he’ll do artwork, but he might, you know, write on it. Collect some things. Yeah, write on it. Baldwin hits it to first and a flip underhand to Aaron covering. 3-1 on the put out. Now, here are the strikeout leaders. We’ve put together a beautiful graphic to show Steve Carlton, Hall of Famer. Yep. Robin Roberts, Hall of Famer, and then Aaron and followed by Cole. That is some great company. Yep. one of the greatest left-handers that’s ever thrown a baseball. Lefty Robin Roberts the seven straight years of 300 plus innings marathon man. I mean he different personality than lefty but little bit is a little outside and it’s one ball in one strike. He’s just walked, picked up an RBI, popped out to first. Little low. Two and one. That one’s hit well down the right field line toward the pole. It is foul shoot. I like to see Aaron throw a good change up right here. You see the pitch count 40 balls, 54 strikes. Hasn’t been clean clean for Aaron but until that home run by Olsen. He had a walk but then they got a double play and in the third fourth one two three fifth one two three line drive caught by Scott at second. Home run by Olsen with six innings for Aaron Nola. And even after that first inning when he threw 37 pitches, he then followed the queue of the offense and was able to settle in. job. Yeah, he really did, Tom. That first inning was not really what what we were hoping for to start off this game after getting swept by the old Metropolitans. But, you know, Aaron, after that first inning, he was really good. Gave up that home run to Olsen, the only run he’s led in since that first inning. But, you got to give him credit, man. He battled through it and, you know, got into the sixth inning. You don’t have a day off. We have days off, but they don’t have any days off. Well, Daniel Robert is the new pitcher. This is uh his 14th game in the big leagues. Looked good last night. And and then I was talking to Dale Murphy because I was going to meet him at his restaurant there a few years ago in Atlanta, but he couldn’t come into town. And he said, “If you go in there, you got to get the cheese curds.” I’m like, “What the heck?” I’ve never heard of him. And did you get him? I didn’t go. Cuz he wasn’t there. Way inside. poutine or something like Yeah, they put that on like gravy and cheese curds on French fries. Poutine. I don’t know if he realiz we got to talk to two people. Fouled off over the third base dugout and it’s two and two. Joe looked great last night, by the way. And then number four off of Sero, Wander Sero at line drive. It hits the facing of the second deck. What a hell of a night for him. Sadcast powered by Google Cloud gives us a look at his home runs. First of all, that was impressive, my man. That was really impressive from a just from a pure baseball standpoint. Congratulations on the individual effort tonight. Appreciate it. Yeah. Uh it’s crazy. Uh I wish I didn’t ask a question in the cage. How many guys have hit five homers? Oh my god. But that was below. Just a little guy. Just a little guy. Just a little guy. But no, it was a it was a good night. Fun night for everyone. Uh, you know, Noah’s got that got the strikeouts there. Uh, great at bats to start the game off and good way to start the series after uh, you know, the previous series and got to keep going. Well, Kyle, you’re you’re going to get asked a lot about yourself tonight. Good Morning America. More than likely, every every national network’s going to want to talk to you about about your performance tonight. It had to be impressive sitting in there watching Aaron Nola give up three in the first and then battle his ass off the rest of the way and get to it in the sixth inning. Yeah, that’s what I told him after the game uh when he came out uh he came back to the cage and I was just saying, “Dude, you know, that’s unbelievable for you to go out there, you have a tough first inning and next thing you know you’re throwing up a bunch of zeros.” And you know, he made a he didn’t he made a pitch to Olsson there, but it is what it is. And you know, he kept us uh there. you know, we we got him some runs and he was able to keep going so we could get more. Kyle, how important was your first inning, not only you, but the team’s first inning just to get those runs back. Yeah, it was big. You know, I think that was the thing. You know, we knew uh you know, we wanted to come out tonight and have some really quality at bats and for that to turn out in that first inning where, you know, I think what three homers in the first inning. So, uh just great at bats all around and uh that was a great answer back and we just kept going. Are you going to go and tell Bryce that uh you know to go back with that quote of you know we have to play with a little more intensity and you know you know how that goes when you when you’re losing ball games. Yeah. I mean it, you know, we you play so many games, especially now that we’re getting towards the end, right? Every game matters. And uh, you know, last series was wasn’t a series we wanted to have, obviously. And, uh, you know, I think the the thing that is always going to be constant is our mindsets that we have. Uh, you know, I don’t think anyone’s going out in our last series flat. Everyone’s wanting to go out and win a game. And just like tonight, go out there, have the same mindset, go win a game. And uh you know, we got some good results and good things happened and now we we got another one tomorrow. Keep going. Kyle, there’s not many times when you win a game like you did today that you can say a guy hit four home runs, drove in nine runs, but it was a great team win. It really I I mean I just look all around that everything was great at bats all around that, you know, like I said, we talked about Nolles there where Nullles goes out there tough first inning has, you know, keeps him at bay. the other guys came in did their jobs and uh you know you you look at the at bats throughout the lineup that feel like there was a lot of hits going on and that was you know the thing that we needed tonight so that’s why it’s all great great all round win nice going buddy congratulations yeah thank you for joining us Kyle Schwarber our guest the Phillies win it 19 to four home runs nine RBI’s got to go talk to radio and got to do it all tonight post game and America America’s guest He’ll be on swamp people. He could probably be on swamp people.
