Why Jason Kidd Risked EVERYTHING to Play Cooper Flagg at Point Guard | Dallas Mavericks Podcast

One more thing. I failed you as the host of this show. For as many years as I’ve done this, as many years I’ve been covering Jason Kid, was he a secret genius the whole time? In a way, explain today’s one more thing. I’m not a doctor. So, it’s me versus the machine. I don’t know. Sum nice penetrating thrust to the middle. Hot man, the hot player. Wait, wait, one more thing. Fire up. Welcome. You’re still locked on to the Dallas Mavericks, your team every day. My name is Nick Angstad, media member, cover the Mavs for over 10 years. Today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel. If you want to be right in the middle of the action this season, visit fanuel.com. Place your NFL live bets all season long. It’s a one more thing bonus episode of Locked on Mavs. If you missed yesterday’s show, Slightly and I talked about the Nets game, talked about Anthony Davis, Cooper Flag, starting to figure it out and all that. But today, I want to talk about the postgame comments. and honestly play some pregame comments from Jason Kid. I got to go back and listen to those and there were some really interesting things. There’s some there’s just a million things. So, the second half of this show, I’ll probably just bounce around to a bunch of different things. Kyrie and AD talk about their relationship. Um AD talks about Max Christie in a really interesting way. And but I want to start here with Cooper Flag playing the point guard and that decision from Jason Kid. And it was a decision that a lot of people didn’t like, including myself, to put him right away with as much as much of a spotlight was going to be on him with as much of which much pressure is going to be on this team to be good this season, especially with Nico Harrison still at the helm for the GM role. And all that pressure and everything, all all the things that were were all like Cooper Flag is the savior of this franchise. He is the guy that like the Mavs fans were able to hold on to and be like, “All right, well that terrible thing happened, that terrible trade happened, but now at least we have Cooper Flag.” All that stuff, all the pressure that was was on this decision was on Jason Kid and it was on uh Cooper Flag. Jason Kid looked at it and said, “I don’t care.” And he decided to play Cooper Flag at point guard, play him out of position, make him uncomfortable. Jason Kid was very clear from the opening introductory press conference that Cooper Flag was going to play the point guard. And so I say all that and start that by bringing up a pregame question that actually Vince Carter asked Jason Kidd. And Jason Kidd talks about his mentality in starting Cooper flag at the point guard to start the season. And it tells you why he decided to make that decision. Why I shouldn’t have been me Nick Angststead shouldn’t have been surprised by the decision that Jason Kidd made and shouldn’t have been surprised that he kept going even though it was failing miserably for the Dallas Mavericks. this exchange before Jason Kidd and Vince Carter. The first voice you’ll hear is from Mike Curtis from Dallas Morning News. Uh but this is a hilarious back and forth between former teammates with the the New Jersey Nets at the time, Vince Carter and Jason Kidd, but uh it’s a it’s a little of a long walk with Jason Kidd’s comment, but you’ll hear what he has to say about why he played Cooper Flag as a point guard to start the season and for as long as he did. Jason, you talk about former teammates. You got one right here in Vince Carter. What comes to mind when you see him on this side of the table? He picked the wrong side. Come on. I’m joking. The media. No, he it’s great to see Vince. Vince could still play. I mean, when I talk when we in today’s game for sure. Um, but uh it’s good to see Vince uh you know, he his IQ, he understands the game. Um so for him to be able to have a seamless transition into that hard business you guys do. That’s right. Um he he has done it well. Um but it just makes you know as a point guard makes the game easy cuz he has to do the hard part. Um but um no I wish I this question if you don’t mind because of you know Oh this is your show. I’m just here. I’m just But honestly, you’ve been a catalyst in assisting and helping people become great players, make a lot of money, become Hall of Famers. Thank you for that. How has that translated in coaching with somebody like Cooper being, you know, with, like you said, all the attention, how are you able to translate that at the point guard now as the coach and help him kind of grow in? There it is. Yeah. I I think um man, you’ve been doing your homework, man. uh you make everything look so easy. Um I think when you when you talk about Cooper um just giving him the information to see how he digests it. Um I know it wasn’t a popular thing, but having him at point guard um is something that um we needed to do sooner than later. Um because some will flip it and say, “Why didn’t you do this sooner?” And so um as a coach, I’ll take the blame for that. But putting him in that position, understanding success is the last 6 minutes of the game and it turns into the last three minutes, your best player is going to have the ball. And so just understanding the game a little bit different than others. Um I wanted to see him handle the ball sooner. And so um sometimes we fail, sometimes there’s success. Um but it doesn’t turn us from trying to get better at our job. And so um that’s the way I look at it. Um I’m not always right. Um, but I will fail with him um because I want to see him become successful um from past experiences of giving others the ball. Um we’ve had success um and failures and so this 18year-old um in the sense of playing against the best players in the world. I want to see how he handles it. And I thought he did an incredible job. the numbers will say something different, but I think as time goes on, yes, there’s there’s always a big picture. Sometimes in society, we want the now. Um, but in the long run, we’re playing the long game with him because of his age that uh we just want to hopefully be a part of that successful story. And uh so I I think he can handle that. He’s shown that he can handle it. He’s never come to me and say he doesn’t want to do something. um he’s open to ideas and that’s kind of cool for a young kid who has all this uh information that’s pouring into him to be able to ask or be able to tell him one thing and he can deliver it. Jason Kid is fine with failure. Always has been. It’s a thing that drives Mavs fans crazy. honestly has drived myself driven myself crazy watching him over the years that Jason kid will look at a roster look at a a decision to play a certain player at a certain position or play certain players and certain not play certain players he does not care about about failure in the immediate. He will look at the situation with the Mavs in 2023 and go this is not working. This is not going to win in the playoffs at all and just let it fail and just let it die. not and and say, “All right, I’m going to put them to the wolves. I’m going to I’m going to let them let them figure it out.” And they did not. And he knew they weren’t going to figure it out. And Jason K will look at other other lineups and look at that lineup in 2024 where that remember that time, if you’ve listened to the show for long enough, there was a time the Mavericks had four of the worst defensive games I’ve ever seen the Mavericks play. A Mavericks team that was expected to be good. And they had some of the worst defensive games. that I just went, they’re not learning any of this stuff. This this is not working for the Mavericks at all. I don’t know if Jason Kidd is the right voice for this any anymore. And I called for his job. And then they went on this run, had the best defense in the NBA to end the season, and they ended up going to the NBA finals. But Jason K looks at opportunities and says, “All right, I’m going to let this guy, this group, this this team fail in some of these moments to make them ready for the later moments.” And I think that has helped the Mavericks win in 2022 when they went to the Western Conference Finals and beat that Suns team when they, you know, game seven, a massive moment. And it helped them in 2024 when they needed to to get past the Thunder, when they needed to get past the, you know, the Timberwolves, when they needed to get through the the Clippers even in the first round. And Jason Kidd looks at Cooper Flag and saw an opportunity and he didn’t care about anything else. He didn’t care about the pressure the team was under that the team was win. Now, he didn’t care what Nico Harrison said. I definitely think he didn’t care about what Nico Harrison said. Explain yourself. Sorry. And he looked at it and said, “I need to know what Cooper Flag is capable of. I need to know what Cooper Flag as a ball handler is capable of. I need to see, like he said in the clip, I need to see the how he processes information, how he deals with all that stuff, how he deals with some of the best defenders.” And remember Slightly and I sat on this stream and were talking every post game saying, “Man, he had to go up against Herb Jones. Man, he had to go up against Assar Thompson. Oh man, he had to go up against Ahmed Thompson. Man, he had to go up against Lou Dort. It’s just every single night, another top defender in the league that that Cooper Flag had to go against. And Jason Ken was looking through all that and said, “Yeah, I need more. I need more information.” And the Mavs were just sinking. 30th in offense. Bad. terrible start to the season. Anthony Davis goes out. The Mavs still kind of did the the Cooper flag point guard thing, but then kind of made an adjustment. And Jason Kit said, “All right, I I’ve seen enough.” He did that with with remember he did it with Javel McGee in 2023 where he played him and it was very clear from the from preseason even this is not going to work. And he let it go eight games and then he was like, “All right, I’ve seen enough.” And then he basically didn’t play Jay McGee very much anymore the rest of the season. He’s done it done it with so many players in the past. Now Jill is a completely different player than Cooper Flag, but with Flag, he wanted to see it. He wanted to see how he dealt with the pressure and I think that Cooper Flag, Jason Kided that moment at the beginning of the season for how well he’s playing in the clutch. I don’t know that you needed to do that moment with Cooper Flag at the very start of the season and put him out there like that, but I do have to admit that it does seem to be working because Cooper Flag looks really good and he looks really comfortable in certain moments. He’s starting to figure it out. That’s what we talked about yesterday on the show. And I think that’s fascinating. And I apologize for failing you and not recognizing that Jason Kid does not care about failure. He is fine accepting it. Even for a player like Cooper Flag with that amount of pressure, with the pressure the franchise was under, with the pressure that Nico Harrison was putting this this franchise under and the pressure the fans were putting the team under and everything. Jason Kid looked at it and said, “It doesn’t matter. I need to know what this kid is capable of and I need to know right now.” In a way, right? He talks about, well, you guys want the immediate. Well, he wanted to know the immediate, too, of what he’s capable of. He could have waited for that point guard moment till, you know, now maybe the Mavs would be like 500. And he’s like, all right, now I’m going to put Cooper Flag in there as point guard and see what happens. And he decided he didn’t want he didn’t want to do that. He wanted to do it right now. Coming up, let’s talk about what Cooper Flag learned from being a point guard. Talk about AD and Kyrie. AD talked about his friendship, a lot of other things from the Mavs post game. Talk about that and more coming up. Today’s episode of Lock Time Apps brought to you by Wayfair. Wayfair. The holidays are around the corner. They’re they’re here right now. All right, Isaac, let’s get into some more of this stuff. So, we talked about Jason Kid’s comments about playing the point guard. Cooper Flag was also asked about playing the point guard early because Kid was asked about it by Vince Carter pregame and and Cooper Flag said this, “I learned a lot. Losses, a lot of tough games, being uncomfortable and understanding. I had never really played point guard before. which is kind of a fascinating thing for as much basketball as Cooper Flag has played for as many different teams as he’s been on and I don’t know if it’s 100% true because we had we had a guy from no seal we had Cory on from no ceilings and he talked about this AA team in Maine that Cougar Flag played point guard on. So maybe he just forgot about that one or maybe he didn’t consider that point guard or maybe it was just it was different than what Cory Cory saw but he was there in person and watched him play point guard. Anyway, Flag said it’s a lot different than any other position. you have to be aware of a lot of other things. It’s a lot of new stuff if you haven’t done it before. I learned a lot about what it takes to lead a team just to get everyone organized and those sorts of things. It was pretty good for me. And then Anthony Davis said this after the Nets game about Cooper Flag in his game because Slightly and I talked all about how Flag is figuring it out. He is like he was scoring early those 12 points in that first quarter and then in the second half he opened it up for everybody and then he had he finished with eight assists. should have had more, but finished with eight assists in the game and was passing all over the place and his passing was awesome. And Anthony Davis said this about Cooper Flag. Coupe was aggressive, attacking the basket, him getting downhill. He’s very tough to guard. I think every night they’re going to try to put their best wing defender on him. He led the charge and then once he started drawing so much attention, he was able to open up the floor for everyone else. They’re seeing the same thing that we saw. Anthony Davis is like, “Hey, he and this is an 18-year-old. I just want to be very clear about this. This is an 18-year-old setting up and opening up the floor for Anthony Davis, PJ Washington, Naji Marshall, Klay Thompson, like players that have played at the highest levels, have played a ton of basketball in the NBA. And Cooper Flag, the 18-year-old, is the one setting these guys up and setting these guys up for success. And I think that that is so cool and awesome for Cooper Flag that he is already in that position where it’s like he is making life easier for us. And we searched for so many games. How do the Mavs create some kind of advantage to start their offense, to get their offense started? Well, it starts now with Anthony Davis at the five. That is a massive shift and a massive difference that I think is helping a lot. And then Cooper Flag figuring out how to attack all his mismatches and anything that anybody that’s in front of him, he attacks. He attacks with a, you know, a pick and roll maybe with with Anthony Davis or the dribble handoff or any of the stuff the Mavs were running early. Cooper Flag figured it out. And maybe it was just that he needed to figure out how to play point guard and set everybody up. And once he learned that, Jason K then slid him over to his actual position and said, “All right, now that you know all that, now let’s slide him over here.” That totally could be. The problem is the Mavs dug themselves such a big hole this season that that doing that I don’t think helped them very much at all. Maybe it’ll help him in the It’ll definitely help them in the long run with Cooper Black and that’s what this is all about. But man, it did not do them any favors this season at all because that hole that the Mavs dug, yeah, you you could blame injuries, but man, being the 30th offense, no matter who was on the court, is not not something that is going to help you at all. I just found I just found that whole thing about him playing point guard very interesting and all that. Okay, so Anthony Davis also asked about his relationship with Kyrie and we did this episode this week where we talked about do the Mavs need to give AD and Kyrie a chance and I said no because when are they going to be healthy again? And that’s true and that’s logical and that is just these guys are are injured a lot. They’ve played one half of basketball together since February since the trade. It’s been almost a calendar year and they’ve played one half of basketball. And it may we may go a whole calendar year with them playing one half of basketball together because of Kyrie’s ACL. But then there’s a part in me that is like the fan part of me that is just like I want to see it. Like I just want to I just want to see it. I want to see it happen. I want to see them play together. I know they’re not going to beat the Thunder, right? I know they may not beat the Nuggets. They probably won’t they may not beat the the Rockets. They may not even beat the Lakers, but I want to see it. I want to see these guys play. We’ve talked about it so much. God, do I want to see Nico’s vision? Is that really what I’m saying right now? Here on Locked on Mavs, listening to myself talk right now. I don’t always tell you guys the truth. I do want to see it though. And Anthony Davis said this about his relationship with Kyrie. We were really, we’re really close. We were actually trying to become teammates for a while. He said that’s another story. obviously playing he said he said this quote I should have clipped it he said this quote obviously playing one game with each other half a game since we’ve been here is kind of tough it wasn’t the vision not him using the word vision is ruined for me I don’t know about you listening if you are a maps fan and the word vision has not been ruined for I don’t The word vision has been absolutely ruined for me. It’s great. It’s great, dude. Dude, it’s great. It’s not great, Kyrie. It’s not. But anyway, he says, uh, obviously that wasn’t the vision, but having Kyrie as a coach, he’s constantly texting me, having him at home games, uh, telling him things. He said, “It’s been awesome.” And I think that’s really cool. And I think that it’s cool that Anthony Davis and Kyrie have wanted to become teammates. And even if it’s just for those two guys, for the sake of basketball, for the sake of two guys that have been in basketball lore for so long, Kyrie Irving, number one pick in what, 2011? Anthony Davis, number one pick in 2012. For those guys that have been in basketball lore for so long, Anthony Davis, the only basketball player to win an NBA title, an NCAA title, a World Cup uh championship, and a gold medal, and lockdown Lakers, lock on Lakers, Andy Kimitzki, texted me and said, “You need to add to the list. Also, NBA Cup champion.” I was like, “You know what? Fair is fair.” Andy Kimitzki Kyrie Irving being, you know, being lauded as one of the best handles in NBA history, having one of the greatest shots in NBA history. those two guys. There’s so much basketball lore behind these two guys. I do want to see them play together. It may not be the peak of their powers. They’re pretty close. It may not be, you know, they may not be healthy for it. I want to see it happen as the fan person in me. The logic side of me, the logic side of me and looking longterm at this, and Jason K talked all about the long term in this. He said, “We we’re doing the the Cooper Flag point guard thing because of the long term. We look at the long term.” All right. I’m looking at the long term and I say, “All right, if the Mavs don’t recoup some assets for some of these guys and and be a little bit worse this season for their draft pick to be better and and nail some nail a pick or nail a trade in some way.” And it is it is a little bleak for the Mavericks going forward because you don’t have picks. You got to figure out how to get Cooper Flag a co-star and players around him. There’s just there’s just a lot of things with that. The Mavs could be will be in the second apron next season if they don’t do something. You either keep AD and be in the second apron or you keep AD you lo and you lose somebody else, right? a Nagi, a PJ, a PJ Washington, like the players around them that you have figured out how to or you lose like a a a Klay Thompson, which you know could could be fine, or you have to get rid of a Daniel Russell if he takes the player option, a Caleb Barton trying to figure out how to get off his contract that may cost some assets just to get under the second apron just so that the Mavs are not stuck in that second second apron hell. It’s just really hard for teams right now. Look at the Cavs. The Cavs just don’t have a lot of options right now. They just got to get healthy and be better, and that’s kind of their only thing. So, I I do want to see AD and Kyrie play together. Like, the fan in me wants to see it happen. Wants to see him play with with Coupe, right? The picture of all them at media day holding up all the number ones because they’re three number one picks. I want to see that. I want to see what they can do. The logic side of me says that that’s not the smartest basketball thing for the Mavericks long term, but you know, as an appreciator of basketball, Anthony Davis talked about Max Christie, the nonsecorder of the year, and he was asked about him and I just I really appreciated how Anthony Davis talked about Max Christie. I don’t know that we’ve heard him talk about Max Christie that much since he’s been here because of gestures to everything that has happened since Anthony Davis has come here, but he loves Max Christie and I love that about Anthony Davis. They call him prime. This was a thing we learned very early when they came over in the in the Jet from the with the trade. Uh we learned in a Mav social video that they call Max the Lakers called Max Prime because he would he was the rookie that they always asked him, “Hey, you got a phone charger? Hey, you got this? Hey, you got gum. Hey, you got chapstick.” like what whatever you got. And he always had it. Every single time he had it. He was prepared. He was like the rookie that was ready with anything. And then Anthony Davis said he asked him for something super random one time and he got it and he brought it to he brought it to him and he just said, “Ma’am, you’re like, man, you’re like Amazon Prime.” And they start calling him Prime. And I think that’s really cool. It’s really cool until you think about they’re calling him Amazon Prime. Never mind. He said Prime does it all. He’s shooting the shiit out of the ball defending. We put him on Michael Porter Jr. when he was hot and he turned the water off. getting it into the paint, making the right reads. He actually said something when he got the ball, too. Uh like he hit a shot and then he then he said something afterwards because Max don’t talk a lot. He said some words and it got me a little hyped. He’s coming out of that shell. It’s good to see. And he said the biggest area of growth Max Christie has gone through is confidence. And we’re seeing that right now. He’s always been able to make shots in LA. He was in and out of the lineup a lot. There was times in in LA with the Lakers where he would start and then he would play no minutes. He would be out of the rotation. He’d just be up and down, up and down, up and down. And Lakers fans were even frustrated that I mean this is ridiculous but they were frustrated the Mavs that they sent Max Christie over in the Luca trade because Max Christie had just turned a corner with them and they were seeing this like this you know this really good starter that JJ Reick was playing out there and they were sad to see him go. Now the privilege of that statement, the privilege of that sentiment is insane but oh well. And then Anthony Davis talks about how the the trade was just a really big shock to to Max Christie and that he’s kind he’s kind of getting over that he’s finally settling in and that he hasn’t really talked to Max Christie about it cuz what do you say like how do you help somebody get through something like that a trade or something like that and so he was just very he talked very glowingly about Max Christie. You could tell there was just genuine appreciation affection there. Uh and you got to love that. What else happened? Um, Cooper Flag said this about Max Christie and and Klay Thompson. He said, “Those are two players I always want to know where they are on the court at all times.” And I just was thinking about that because that changes the gravity of what a superstar player or what a player like Cooper Flag can do to always know where that guy is, where Cooper Flax Christie or Klay Thompson are because he always wants to be able to hit those guys. Remember that pass in the fourth quarter against the Nets we talked about yesterday where Cooper Flag was under the basket and who was it? Brandon Williams found him right under the basket. Flag’s back was turned to Max Christie and he jumped around, turned around 180 and in the air threw the ball to Max Christie. He knew exactly where he was because he said he always wants to know where that guy is because that’s a shooter. That acts like an anchor for for these guys to know I’ve always got an outlet. I’ve always got an outlet if I need to kick the ball out to somebody that’s gonna that’s gonna hit a shot. And Max Christie and Klay Thompson’s job is to be able to find the open space where if the help comes to, you know, to defend Cooper flag that those guys have to find the open space hopefully in Flag’s ey line and some players you don’t need to be in their ey line because they can see everything, but find that space somewhere. And so Cooper Flag has the anchor to kick out and he knows he’s going to get a solid shot in that offense from those guys. And I just found that that mentality very very interesting. And it’s probably it’s not it’s not unique to Cooper Flag or unique to this situation. But that speaks to how important shooters are for some of these guys. And if you don’t have a shooter like that, if you don’t have a a you know, a knockdown 40% three-point shooter out there that you know, all right, anytime I am in trouble, I can kick the ball out to this guy. I if I can pull if I can pull the defense in enough, I can kick the ball out to this guy and that’s an anchor for me. That’s got to be so comforting in a in a way. And I found that part really interesting. Cooper flag also said about Naji Marshall, he said, “Well, he’s the knife. He’s everywhere. He cuts up the defense. He cuts off a drive.” I just like, is he going to keep doing the cut thing? Cut up a defense, cut off a drive. And he said, “When he’s out there, we’re a better team.” And I love to see Naji Marshall get some get some credit for some of these guys because he’s been playing really well. And Naji Marshall is also undrafted. Nashi Marshall, Ryan Nemhard, Maps have some undrafted guys that I think some of that stuff is just really some of that is just is really impactful for some of these guys to to have to go through that and like make their way in the NBA. You look at Max Christiey’s second round pick that these guys had to fight their way into an NBA roster and I think that’s really interesting. The Mavs either have number one picks or they have second round undrafted guys. That’s basically the the the difference. There you go. That’s some thoughts about the Mavericks. That’s some thoughts about Cooper Flag. I thought the Jason K quotes were just fascinating about his way he approached the Cooper Flag thing. But check the QR code. The links in the description. 1. Now that Flagg is more comfortable and they’re not trying to play the huge lineup, I would actually like to see them try him at pg again for a few mins at a time.

  2. If we get Kyrie back and AD can stay relatively healthy, call me crazy but I think we can beat every team you mentioned and give OKC a run for their money! You’re paying way too much attention to what our current record is! Healthy, this is a championship ready team!

  3. Flagg cannot be a PG he has trouble dribbling the ball and protecting it. His skills in ball handling is a failure, he has too many turnovers on passing and ball stolen from him

  4. The point guard position takes lots of imagination, and really great players have great imagination, Luka scores a hundred different ways.
Being at point forces coop to think and come up with something creative.
Otherwise he's just running plays, right??

  5. It was a BRILLIANT move! It excelerated his growth in real-time! I cant prove it but I was down with it from the start. It wasnt pretty but now he’s a star.

  6. Why is everyone acting like the playoffs are around the corner?? We're barely into the season. Lots of time. I bet we end up around that 6 spot if we just stay on this course.

  7. Kidd terrible coaching trying Flagg at point guard. No way was it going to be anything other than it was. Loss after Loss after Loss to teams we should have been beating. No difference than riding Luka like a horse until he was basically playing on 1 leg then blaming him for Loss to Celtics where Irving forgot how to play after playing All World in playoff series to get us to the finals. Still doesnt smell right. But Nutco Nico is gone so now we on winning streak with Flagg playing wing which everybody else already knew is where he should be playing.

  8. Nick long time listener but sometimes I avoided your show. Because in truth Dallas fans wants to only hear positivity. Now that you slowly realizing this sentiment maybe you break 50k subs. DLLS is at 38k within 1 year c'mon man do better for the fans.

  9. You are super negative. They won't beat the rockets, the Nuggets, the thunder…well they already beat 2 out of 3 of those teams, and if spurs can beat okc, so can mavs. POSITIVITY! ❤

  10. Cooper didn’t play point guard on Maine United AAU team, that was actually the coaches son. It just looked like coop was playing point guard bc he had to have the ball in his hand a lot to compete with the top teams like the ones the boozers were on

  11. For anybody that in the comments that’s tired of hearing about Tanking and failure.. Just think.. if you are a video guy, you could make some good money talking about the good things that’s going with the Mavs.. Team don’t tank.. Just like M.Digest , you should be able to blow up in less than 3 months… even if you aren’t a real Fan.. No one is talking positive.. Someone go make some money.. Don’t say I didn’t give the advice

  12. Nick, just like you were wrong about point Flagg, you’re also wrong about trading AD. Forget about Nico and his vision. He no longer matters. The only thing that matters are who you have on the court during the playoffs. Centers get injured. Just look across the league. We don’t have the draft capital to rebuild. It takes years of hit and miss in the draft, mostly miss to get a championship caliber player. It takes a Luka, Giannis, Jokic or SGA type player to win. We have to see Kyrie and AD in the playoffs. Together they add up to a championship player like Tatum and Brown did for Boston. With Cooper, PJ, and Klay ( yes, actually look at rhe numbers), we have a chance next year. There is still a lot of the season left. Don’t make a decision to trade him until the offseason.

  13. Or Jason kidd did something else , see that smile ,that smile was gone when Nico was here , but Kidd's real reason for starting Cooper at point is because Kidd knew Coop was gonna fail and knew not his neck was not the chopping block, it was Nico's neck and Kidd got Nico FIRED , CONSPIRACY THEORIES
BET THAT , MFFL GO MAVS

  14. Knowing Kidd's history with the Bucks, and given the hand he was dealt with Nico, he definitely was incentivized to have the Mavs roster look bad so there'd be increasing pressure to get rid of Nico (rightfully so). As reported, there was a coup forming via Cuban to regain control of the Mavs following Nico's disastrous series of moves last year.
