HOW Did The Dallas Mavericks Get Away With THIS…

The Dallas Mavericks started off the season so terrible to the point where I’m like, “Yeah, they’re going to have to blow all this up.” But then came a player named Ryan Nemhard, who has been an absolute gem for this Dallas Mavericks squad. But he’s been a gem on the playmaking side of the game. And we’ll look more into that. But how have the Dallas Mavericks won five of their six games? And where does this all stem from? We’re going to be talking about these three players. So, make sure you stick till the end cuz I’ll be breaking down some very good film. And first, we have to start off with Ryan Nemhard because on the playmaking end, he is one of the smartest players on the entire Maverick’s roster because he could be dribbling it in the mid-range area. And you could see two Miami Heat players are doubling him. So, what does he see? He sees a cutting Max Christie, but doesn’t hit him whatsoever because he sees that Khil Wear is sleeping and is standing too far inside the paint. And mid jump shot, he kicks it out to the corner for Naji Marshall and he splashes the three. Oh, but don’t get it twisted. He will also fry you on the isolation. It isn’t just playmaking because he could have you isolated on the right side, go between the legs a couple of times and then use that between the leg to go into a step back. And while the defender thinks he’s going to hit a mid-range, but he doesn’t. It’s too late for the defender. He’s overcommitted. So now he’s going to fake like he’s driving, but then hit you with a crossover and pull up for the mid-range. Ladies and gentlemen, this is what the Mavericks have been needing, a point guard. Because when you think about it, D’Angelo Russell isn’t doing anything good right now. He isn’t playmaking to his standards and he isn’t connecting this roster. And while one thing Nemhardt is doing is connecting this roster and getting shooters involved as well. This improves a stat we like to call shot quality cuz when you get better playmakers on your team, they find you better shots, which leads to a better shot quality. And it isn’t just me saying this, it’s also his coach talking about the team getting better looks because of Ryan Emhard. And now you can see the percentages have uh gone up uh with our shooting. We’re starting to make shots. Um but I it all starts, I think, with that point guard that we have. Um and Ryan and his ability to set the tone um to be able to get his teammates shots, but also for him to be able to knock down shots when he’s open. Well, now you look at it. Klay Thompson is shooting way better from the three-point line. You know, we could say it’s Megan the Stallion that’s the reason for this, but it’s actually Ryan Nemhard cuz he’s getting Klay way better looks and Klay is knocking down wide open threes. You love to see this, man. And I know what you may be saying. Ryan Mhard has had a couple of bad games this season, but I don’t care because he’s just getting used to the NBA. And while Jason kid trust him so much that he lets him run a pick and pop with AD and defenders are so used to sticking on to him like super glue because of his mid-range shots to the point where it leaves Anthony Davis open at the three-point line and you already know that is Splash. But now we have to talk about the second player and this is Cooper Flag. You could say Cooper was struggling at the start of the season, but he’s been really turning it up a notch and getting used to the offensive load that he’s getting put through as a very young player. And over the last six games, he’s averaging 23 points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 56% from the field on 34 minutes a game. Of course, we know Cooper Flag as the guy who flies high and does those crazy dunks, but in my mind, I think of Cooper Flag as a very elite playmaker. He’s noticing a lot of things on the floor. Like when he’s bringing the ball up, he could see that Anthony Davis has Nick Claxton behind him and has him trapped. So, you could throw the ball up over and Anthony Davis has all the advantage in the world to score this and one bucket. And this is all because of the recognition that Cooper Flag has. And I know some people are going to say, “Oh, Cooper Flag just lobbs it up to AD for easy assists.” But it’s more than just that. There are a lot of good half court sets like this one where Hardy passes it on to Cooper Flag. Cooper runs inside the paint, sees a double team happening, and look who’s wide open. Naji Marshall in the corner and he finds him for the easy bucket. It’s all about recognizing when you’re getting double teamed. And because of all this gravity, Cooper is going to have to become a good playmaker. And that’s exactly what he’s doing. We’re still yet to talk about The Last Player and Cooper Flag scoring, which is ridiculous. So, stay tuned. All right, guys. A quick timeout because I want to talk about one of my favorite sponsors, and this is Clover. Have you ever gotten hit with one of those unexpected expenses out of nowhere? It could have been a car loan, something random, but payday is just around the corner. Well, that’s why I got you guys with Clover. Clover is an earned wage access app. It is not a loan that lets you access up to $400 before payday with no credit checks, no late fees, and most importantly, no interest. That’s my favorite part. You’re getting access to money you already earned. But one of my favorite parts is their flexibility, cuz that’s why I use them. You can wait a few days to get your cash for free, but if you need your cash right away, you can pay an optional express fee. And I usually do the optional express fee so I can get my money right away. And there’s no membership, so I’m just paying that onetime fee just to get my money. Access up to $400. No credit checks, no late fees. And guys, make sure you go down there and click the link so they know I sent you. A big shout out to Clover cuz they have been helping me out, man. It’s an awesome app to use. And if you want to use it as well, go ahead. And well, back to the video cuz we need to talk about Cooper Flag. And the reason why he’s so good at scoring isn’t entirely because of his athleticism. Actually, it’s because of how good of a player he is when it comes to offball cutting. And over here, Cooper Flag gets the ball on the right wing and instead of taking the three, he gives it to Anthony Davis. And while Anthony Davis causes a lot of gravity on the floor, so Cooper Flag’s defender is staring at Anthony Davis, giving Cooper enough time to go behind him like a ninja. And that’s a beautiful pass from AD and an even better finish from Cooper Flag. This is what you like to call using another player’s gravity to get yourself a bucket. And that’s exactly what rookie should be doing right now. And another thing that makes him stand out when it comes to other rookies is that Cooper Flag is a very patient player. And it shows over here in the transition when he’s bringing the ball down instead of being completely out of control. He goes to the defender’s chest, hits him with a little bit of a spin, and acts like he’s going to go to the jumper. And that little fake jumper move gives him more than enough of an angle to slide right in and get himself a tough layup. When rookies are starting to understand how angles work in the NBA, that’s when it gets very, very scary. Another player who is getting scary is Anthony Davis. And he’s the third player of today’s video. And well, against the Nets, he scored 24 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, three steals, two blocks, we all know Anthony Davis can do on the floor. These numbers are not surprising to me whatsoever. He’s a lethal pick and roll partner with Cooper Flag. Why do you think Cooper Flag’s playing so good? Ryan Nemhard is a great playmaker. So, when you pair him with Anthony Davis in the pick and roll, even that gets lethal. But the actual thing that’s lethal is Anthony Davis and his ability to just constantly get injured. I think that if Anthony Davis stays healthy for this Mavericks team, it really won’t look as bad as it does right now. And well, when Kyrie Irving comes back, this team is going to be a problem whether you like it or not because even that’s a question. Will Kyrie Irving want to come back and play for this team? Because if they keep on going on this hot streak of theirs right now, Kyrie is going to come back. But if they don’t, sorry guys, AD is gone and Kyrie Irving is going to be gone. But what I’m saying right now is Nemhard is saving this Mavericks team right now. Anthony Davis has been healthy, playing amazing. And Cooper Flag is learning how to play with AD and becoming a very good playmaker as well. If these three things continue to click, this Mavericks team is going to be a problem this season. But I want to know your opinions in the comments section. Do you guys think that the Mavericks can continue this hot streak, or is what they’re doing unsustainable? If you guys enjoyed today’s breakdown, make sure you hit that like and subscribe. We’re almost at 30,000 subscribers, which is crazy. That’s been all for your boy Mugsy. I’ll catch you legends in the next

  1. This is a perfect situation for Flagg. He has the chance to grow while finding his place on the team and find his role while Kyrie & AD take the pressure off him. Most young players force bad shots and spend years losing, this way Flagg grows into his role and is part of a winning team. A great situation to be in and will help him long term.
