Breaking News: Buffalo Sabres Fire GM Kevyn Adams

We have some breaking news from the NHL. Has been widely suspected here in the past week. The Sabres are making a GM change. We’ll discuss the move coming up next. So, welcome back to another video here at TopShelf Hockey. As I mentioned, we have some significant breaking news here from the NHL. We just learned from Elliot Freeman that the Buffalo Sabres are making a change at the GM position. Kevin Adams after five and a half years in the role has been fired and he will be replaced by Yermo Kekalan of course has been working with the team as a senior adviser for the past several months. Uh obviously Kalan has a lot of experience uh after a decade running the Columbus Blue Jackets in the same uh type of role. So obviously you know the tenure you know overly successful uh as we stand here now. Uh yeah, they’ve won the last few games on this road trip, but I think this has been brewing for some time. Uh after 30 plus games in the season, they’re still near uh the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Now, mind you, the standings are way tighter than usual. Uh and we’re still at a spot where uh you know, even a small extended winning streak can really change where you sit in the standings right now. Generally speaking, they’ve been at best a 500 club, often times below. Uh some of the trades that he’s made have not really worked out. And well, they’re no further ahead than when he took over 5 and a half years ago. This will be the first time during the Terry Pigula era that we actually have somebody more prominent and experienced kind of running the team. uh he has um largely relied upon you know younger u less experienced firsttime general managers which has not worked out for this team. The team has not really made the progress like it was intending and hoping uh during this even this era of ownership. I look at the number of star players that have left town mainly because they wanted out after uh you know frustrating culture uh frustrating losses mounting up. it just became um you know not a fun place to play for an extended period of time. They’ve got a lot of really loyal fans. Uh the people of Buffalo love the game of hockey and certainly uh they deserve better and I hope for their sake that Yarmmo is able to get things turned around. It’s kind of difficult to say how long we’re going to see before we see more changes within the players. I mean Craan is not going to be in the same predicament that we see in some cases where an outsider new GM come in and wants to have like an evaluation period. he’s already worked with the team for an extended time, so he should know this roster well and he should know what it, you know, what he feels it needs and whatnot. So, um, we’ll have to wait and see kind of where things go from here. But, I mean, like I said, he he had a decade of running a team in Columbus, was an assistant GM before that, whereas Adams had a completely different background. Yes, he’s a former player, but you can’t always just jump in as a former player without the relevant experience and, you know, have it be successful. you have the odd player who does that in different roles and it it’s not to say that it’s completely impossible, but it’s just it has not worked out. It just really hasn’t. Um, so times are changing with the Sabres. Let me know what you think. Is this the right move for the Sabres? Uh, do they, you know, should they have made this change? Is Kaliner the right guy? Uh, how is he going to make other changes to the staff? Will they make a change in the coach? We’ll see what happens here uh over the coming days and weeks as we kind of get an idea once he starts to put his fingerprints on this franchise.
