Justin Herbert Postgame Press Conference Vs Chiefs | LA Chargers

this win you guys knock the Chiefs out of playoff contemption just all the battles that you had against this team. What what does this one mean to you given that? Yeah. Um I thought it was really cool that uh you know we were able to close out a a one-sore game like that and uh you know how many times we’ve played them and you know we’ve had those one-sore games and I think the for the defense to go out there and come up with the turnovers, the stops, what they’ve done all day. Um, yeah, we we could have gone down there and continued that drive and kept uh go to get points or something like that, but uh the way the defense came out and shut him down, it was it was awesome to see. How impressive is it for for you like to see the way the defense has played, especially over these last two games? Yeah, it’s awesome. You know, you go out there and you’ve just got so much confidence in them and and we knew, you know, since camp how good they were going to be and they’ve and they’ve been great last year as well and uh you know, the way they fly around, play for each other, the way they’re coached and um you know, it’s it’s really lucky. We’re very fortunate to be able to play with them. Sorry to ask you to prepare, but like do you have you since you’ve been in the league, do you feel like you played with a defense that has been this like opportunistic and the way they turning over the opponent this year? Yeah, I think last year they did a really good job with that as well. Um, but I think this year they’ve they’ve took it to a whole another level and uh the way they go up and compete for, you know, those tip balls and um the way they they get the football out and cause those turnovers. Um, you know, it just helps us so much as an offense. How does it your how does it change your mentality as a quarterback with the defense with the way they’re playing knowing that the margin of error for you and the offense might be a little bit bigger? Has it changed the way you play? How does it change your mentality approach to the game? Yeah, I think you just got to do your job. You know, you got to go out there and and uh you don’t have to worry about, you know, we got to put up 30, 40 points a game. You just got to go out and do your job and do your best to to go score as many points as you can and and knowing that uh you know, a punt is not always the worst case situation. you know, a turnover like today is is is much worse than a punt or um you know, sometimes you just got to know when to go down and and uh be able to flip the field. Uh but the defense has done such a great job. You’ve been teammates within for a long time. What did it mean to you to see him get the game winning? Yeah, he told me all day that uh he was going to go out there and he was going to make a play like that and uh you know, so I wasn’t surprised to see it happen. And the way he flies around and competes um you know, he plays four quarters like uh like it’s his last and so I’ve got nothing but respect for him, the teammate, the leader, and uh you know, the football player that he is. How does it feel like the early season injuries sort of galvaniz? Yeah, I think uh you know it’s always tough to deal with adversity like that, especially with injuries in the NFL. Um but I think it’s only going to help us, you know, that that group of of guys, especially on the offense. Um the defense as well, but uh you know, I’m talking from personal firsthand experience and um you know, we we come together. We we know that uh we got a job to do and um you know, no one else is coming to save us. Um so those guys that have stepped in on the offensive line, running backs, um you know, they’re playing for each other. They’re they’re playing for the group and, you know, I think it’s really cool to see. Compared to last week, like, how was your hand in terms of the paint? Uh, yeah, I think it’s getting better. Um, you know, I had much better grip on the ball. Uh, didn’t uh didn’t really take any snaps from under center this week, but felt like I didn’t really need to and it wasn’t going to be a concern. Um, but went out and and felt better. And as long as we’re going in the right direction, I think that’s a good thing. Cold have any impact on you at all? Yeah, early on in warm-ups, um, you know, I could tell it was it was getting pretty cold just not being able to move it as much. Um, but, uh, I felt like we did a really good job. You know, the equipment staff did such a great job traveling with all the gear and just making sure that we were ready to go. Um, you know, preparing for how cold it was going to be. How much did that last drive of the half and the first drive of second half kind of push things along there? Yeah, I think the the drive right before half was huge just to get us back in the game and you I think at the time it was 13 to3 and um I know we get the ball at half, but uh for us to go put a drive together and some big plays by Dre and and Trey, um you know, it’s it’s good to see from those guys, especially with Q down, those guys did a great job stepping up and and they’re going to make a lot of plays for us in years to come. You mentioned all the one score games you’ve had against the Chiefs over the years, both wins now in one score games. What’s different about this team that you’ve been able to pull out two of them against against this team in one season? Yeah, I think we’ve we’ve just continued to get better and better and and you know, I think that’s our focus and I think coach Harbo would say the same thing where you know, we’re worried about what’s going on in our locker room on our our field and um you know, we’re doing everything we can to to become better and better and as an offense, defense, and special teams. And you know, when we’re able to do do that all three phases um we’re able to play some pretty good football and just go out there and have fun and relax. you guys ran the ball quite a bit, but early on the line. How much did you want to kind of set the tone in that way? Yeah, I think it’s uh you know, one of the the ways that coach Roman saw that we we needed to win the game and uh I thought we did a great job running the ball. Those guys were physical up front. Um and I think we ran the ball pretty well all day. Um you know, there are a couple plays that I’ I’d love to have back, but uh I think for the most part, those guys battled and did a great job up front.

  1. Pure class. Cant wait for the playoffs and redemtion. The AFC is wide open. We can beat anyone, anywhere and under any weather conditions.

  2. Work to do still but given the o-line injuries amazing this team managed to get to 10 wins. Herbert the main reason for sure. Defense with some big stops along the way as well.

  3. Justin plays golf at the course I work at and is the most humble and classy guy you could ever meet. Treats all the employees with respect and takes time to sign stuff for us and take pictures with us. People can hate all they want but there isn’t a QB in the NFL that I would rather have at the helm for the chargers. Great win. Go chargers

  4. Winning the one score games this year shutting out the chiefs in the second half 13 straight points Henley and James with huuuge picks to win the game lets go Chargers!!!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

  5. Justin Herbert played both Super Bowl QBs back to back with a broken hand and WON. Pust some respect on my fuckin QBs name I'm tired of the BS. This dude has done this every single season, its just now we have an actual defense to support him. Like all of us have been saying all along. Insane win at Arrowhead with the Chiefs in a MUST WIN game. Bolt Up!

  6. Lucky to have you Herbert! My son and I have a much closer relationship because he loved you in college and I have been a Charger fan for over 40 years. Now… My son became a Charger fan a few years ago and now we look forward to texting and facetiming during the game :). GO CHARGERS!!!!

  7. GEHA Field, KC, December, weather in the teens, broken hand = Sweep of the Chiefs, eliminating them from the playoffs. Not to mention beating the other SB team, with that freshly broken hand the week before.
I betcha there will be no mention of Herbert by any of the "experts" who picked the Chiefs to win yesterday… and that's fine.
All us Chargers fans need is for Justin to keep being Justin.

  8. OMG!! Can I come run sound for you guys? It's so simple to either setup an audience mic or compress the audio to be able to also hear press questions

  9. Hebertr graduated with a 4.01 GPA, was a teaching assistant, and majored in biology. He won the Academic Heisman for being the top scholar-athlete in the country. He once said that if football didn't work out, he would become a doctor.

  10. Herbert's best throws were wobbly ducks tossed under contact. There's no way this can continue in the playoff without consequences.
