I think he’s done. He wasn’t anything great last year during the season or even during the 4 nations while injured and he’s not much better this year.
He may be worse even. His speed is non existent. He’s like Jason Allison out there. He’s labouring 10 seconds into a shift trying to burst and he can’t.
Is it Berube? I dunno. Maybe. But even so he should still be able to score and he can’t shoot anymore. A back injury destroys your skating and your shot.

Auston Matthews is on an extended run of a lower than typical shooting percentage and scoring at a 40 goal pace and you guys wanna run the best Leaf in history out just like you did every other star of the last 60 years. You people deserve this team.
Remember when we chased Marner out of town? Are we about to do the same to Mathews? The same guy who scored 4 goals on his first game and had a 69 goal season? I think there’s some other fundamental issues in the team. We can’t just scapegoat 1 thing every time. We always want simple solutions. It’s the goaltending. It’s the defence. It’s lack of grit. It’s Marner. It’s Mathew’s contract. We can’t just blame any specific thing, it’s a team game.
Maybe Mathews isn’t scoring the same because he’s being asked to play a different game. But it doesn’t matter cause he’s the guy we got for the next few years no matter what we think.
