Has there ever been a truer 1A-1B goalie situation?

  1. Not sure if it’s just recency bias but I still can’t help but feel safer with Wedgie in net

  2. What I find most interesting is that the goalies have definitely been playing well this year, but neither of the them have cracked the top 10 in the goalie fancy stats (ie Goals Saved above expected) so while they are playing great hockey the Avs are also playing really great defense in front of them. For example of goalies with 20 games played Wedgie has faced the fewest expected goals (now expected goals is a counting stat so some goalies have played more games, but the difference shouldn’t matter). Again, I’m not really tying to take away from the Lumberyard I’m just pointing everyone on the team is performing well right now.

  3. Ever? Sure. NY Islanders back in the 1970s had Billy Smith and, first, Chico Resch; then Rollie the Goalie (Roland Melanson) – those two pairings won them four cups… then let’s look at Edmonton of the early 1980s – Grant Fuhr and Andy Moog – also won 4 cups. The difference here is those teams have a set in stone #1 goalie that endured thru the tenure.
