NJ Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald BLEW The Quinn Hughes Trade & Now He Will NEVER Be A Devil

The New Jersey Devils are in complete disarray right now on and off the ice.

General Manager Tom Fitzgerald just blew the biggest trade in team history for Quinn Hughes.

Second Place Fitzy does it again!

Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin swooped in out of nowhere and landed the prize from the Vancouver Canucks.

Now in the aftermath of the deal, some more details are coming out.

Quinn Hughes had a VERY telling press conference after the Wild game yesterday.

Elliotte Friedman also discussed the NJ Devils on the latest episode of “32 Thoughts”.

SPOILER ALERT: Sorry Devils fans, Quinn Hughes is not going to be signing here.

I discuss all of this and MUCH more in this video.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. I see no way we’ll be playoff bound this year. I don’t see an end to the injuries and while I hope I’m wrong, Marky is not flipping a switch. He needs to see a sports psychologist.

  2. Vibes are extremely low.

Seeing Quinn score a goal after watching the devils beat themselves against the Canucks is the icing on the shit cake.

I agreed with you that no one should be untouchable.

I did suggest moving off of the hughes’ and see what kind of haul they could get back. Maybe you could piece together a more well rounded roster. I honestly don’t know but it should be considered

  3. Fun Fact- When Quinn flew to Minnesota from Jersey he landed having forgotten his gear. Quinn had left his hockey bag with all his gear in Jack's car back in New Jersey.
    Take a moment & enjoy that….

  4. Mn fan here, I like listening to your show. Curious what the vibe is in NJ about keeping Jack & Luke? I know the buzz in the league was for Quinn to head to NJ, but could the 2 brothers head to Mn or maybe DET to join Quinn in a couple years?

  5. Ace, i usually agree with you however on this one, I wouldnt say Quinn is never coming to NJ. Ofc Quinn was taking jabs at the Devils, but I can't imagine Quinn just wiped the thought of playing with his brothers in jersey. Its not over till its over

  6. He definitely might stay in Minnesota, but I don't put a ton of stock in what players say in front of the cameras at the time. Parise, Hall, Tavares, etc they all say what people want to hear.

  7. We're not getting Quinn. Devils are going to tank this season. Quinn will align his extension to coincide with Jack's free agency. Luke will bounce not long after Jack. Keefe will get the axe one season probably before Fitz and once they finally replace him, Tom Fitzgerald will be remembered as the worst GM in franchise history.

  8. Canucks fan here. I found your pod after the QH trade. Your insight imo is excellent. I'm enjoying your pods; you have a new sub. Keep up the great work!

  9. Fitz has an amazing ability to handcuff the Devils through bad signings and trades. Giving no trade clauses to overpays for both Palat and Hamilton were capital crimes. So was extending Marky. That's what's crippling the ability to improve the roster as all three HAVE to go but you can't move them. Trying to please Jack Hughes by signing his brothers was another capital crime. At this point, you have to trade Luke and Jack and look to rebuild the team through that. Of course, you cannot have Fitz make those deals or you'll kill the team for the next ten years. It's a mess alright but not for the reasons you think it's a mess. The #1 problem is the ownership though and the Devils will never win a Cup with THIS ownership. Fitzy is just doing what ownership wants and he's pissing away whatever leeway they do give him. It's the worst of all possible worlds. When the Devils were winning cups their captain was Scott Stevens. It is now Nico Hischier. See the difference? Can't build the team with a core of skill guys. You have to build the team with a core of tough guys and put some skill players around them. If your tough guys also have skills, like Barkov and Tkachuk, you hit gold. Fitz is doing this inside out. And the Hughes brothers plus some Swiss skaters is a losing proposition.

  10. good video ace even though this video made me want to puke cause fitz is a total disaster. just remember. he hasnt made a single trade yet thats complicated. hes trying to build a family team here that everyone likes each other like family instead of winning and its pretty damn obvious to me. also ace if you pay attention to keefe pressers keefe actually has been telling us whats wrong with this team. keefe has said multiple times thats who we are. hes said it on multiple occasions that the team is mentally not tough and they give up. why did it take us to lose 7/9 games just to have a team meeting to have a honest discussion?? is keefe handcuffed and not allowed by the organization to make players accountable. something does not seem right to me it feels like nobody is saying anything to eachother. they lose the game and thats it they just go home. the writing is on the wall. 7/9 GAMES TO LOSE JUST TO HAVE A DISCUSSION. im so angry with this pathetic organization. and i also think the writing is all over the wall aswell that since tom has zero balls to make any hard trades or doesnt want to trade "family members" "the team" in hard deals. i can garantee keefe goes to fitz complains the team sucks and fitz does absolutely nothing doesnt make a appearance in the locker room or anything. Fitz absolutely needs to go there is zero accountability with this team. im honestly suprised keefe hasnt walked out of this garbage organization thats to soft from top all the way to the team

  11. gonna be honest ace if you really think about it. the fact keefe said thats who we are. kinda shows me that keefe gave up on the team because he was the only one in the organization that gave a shit why would you say that in the first place. after thinking about this its gotta be the problem with the team. the devils organization is who they are. a administration that doesnt give a single shit about the team. and the fact keefe said thats who we are really proves my idea that there is zero accountability with the administration in this organization no wonder why we suck. and we keep seeing the exact same inconsistency year after year. we either sleep walk a game or play great there is no inbetween and its been like this for years

  12. Quinn respects Billy for not only really caring about him, but also for "sackin' up." That probably also means he's lost some respect for Fitz for sitting around with his hands in his pockets.

All 3 of the brothers want to play together. Nothing says it has to be in Jersey, especially with the way things are going here. The brothers also want to win. Why couldn't that mean Jack and Luke eventually set their sights on Minnesota, where they can be together and all be on a winning team?

Everything said by Quinn is a two-way street and probably has some degree of underlying relationship to NJ. Not getting Quinn looks bad now, but in the future it could mean losing the other two brothers, including Jack where, as we see now, is the centerpiece for the entire team. If those two leave, why should the other top talent here who are only getting older and not getting the supporting pieces they need for success not want to go elsewhere?

Unless there's different blockbuster moves on the way, or, ideally, we get new management that gives a 🐀🍑, this could turn from a missed opportunity to the start of one of the top NHL f**kups of this century. No exaggeration.

  13. BREAKING i just caught this. someone who works in the organization who wants to stay anonymous has just said the ownership has full faith in tom fitz and there not gonna fire him. im gonna puke my god

  14. I never understood the devils fans saying Vancouver had no leverage here. Some people were saying they would have to accept dougie and a 2nd because no other team would trade for him lol.

Going to a well run organization who is stacked with young elite players is terrifying. You don’t let other GMs get their hands on elite players, they usually do everything they can to never let them go.

In five years people are going to feel so stupid looking back at worrying about giving up Nemec and Mercer and picks for a top ten player right in his prime.

  15. I think there's the possibility of Quinn signing a shorter contract and then going elsewhere with Jack once it's up. Only time will tell, but I suspect that the future may not lie with the Devils if they maintain this GM.

  16. Now it comes out that the Devils couldn't make the trade with Quinn because they couldn't clear the cap space because of the atrocious Palat and Hamilton no-trade clause contracts. So, Fitzy didn't blow this deal yesterday, he blew it years ago. Plus, Palat and Dougie refused to budge. No wonder this team has poor chemistry. Imagine the tensions in the locker room.

  17. Sounds like players with NMC/NTC blocked the trade so not totally Fitz fault. The "win now" moves years ago with Dougie and Palat cost us this trade. Thank the fans for pressuring Fitz into making moves way too early before we had a team that could contend.
