NO KING | Aces Still Available | Cubs Baseball Rumors

One of the most elite starting pitchers available in this free agent market and reportedly someone the Cubs were interested in has marked them off the list. We're going to talk about Michael King, what that means to the Cubs and their chances of adding a front end rotation piece. Kyle Tucker, a cameo on a Netflix show. Talk that too. Like, subscribe, thumbs up, hit the bell, and uh let's get this thing going. Great to see you guys today and go Cubs. [music] [music] [music] What do you say everybody? Mick Gillespie Cubs baseball channel and again always a pleasure to talk to you on a daily basis here. Make sure that you're part of what we're doing. Share with your Cubs friends. We're trying to get to 10,000 subscribers. You guys are helping us do that. And let's start off with this one right here. Big news. And I don't know if I was really surprised by this. Uh maybe that Michael King was the one that eliminated the Cubs, but Michael King eliminated the Cubs and is down to his final three. So, I think it comes down to the fact that he decided that he wanted to pitch somewhere up north. That's where he's from. And uh I mean the Northeast, right? So he's reportedly going to get about four years $90 million. That's give or take. You know, who knows where that's going to end up. He was with the Padres's last year. It was nice eliminating his team from the playoffs. Uh they didn't like the way that the game ended, but you know what? It is what it is, right? Maybe a missed strike by one of the umpires. Who knows? Cubs would have won anyway. So now he's looking for a new home. And Ken Rosenthal is reporting that King has his list down to three teams. The Boston Red Sox, the Baltimore Orioles, and the New York Yankees. So, he's going to be in the AL East. And the reason that they're saying that he wants to stay there is that he went to high school in Rhode Island, uh, played college baseball at Boston College, and kind of wanted to, you know, pitch for one of the teams near his house. Um he's a guy who has been a starter for two full seasons with the Padres's and he's done really well. 18 and 12, a 3-10 record. He's one of those guys that gets a ton of strikeouts. Um he's also really liked by some of the analytics guys for some of the stuff that he does. Um you know, although some guys will look at it and go, "Hey, maybe the analytics aren't going to work with him full term when it ends up coming back." you know, maybe some of it's it it isn't um it isn't something that he's going to be able to do long term, right? Uh I don't know. Look, I I I look at the guy, he goes out there, he gives you a lot of innings, and I don't think that the Cubs were ever really going to I I just never felt like Michael King was the guy that the Cubs were going to bring in. I think you talk to him. I think you're interested, but I just don't know that, and I think you guys will agree with me, that if the Cubs go out and sign Michael King, this isn't the rotation piece that we're looking for. And a lot of you guys kind of feel like one of the problems with the Cubs is that they're kind of batting under the elite free agent level, right? They don't want to spend the money to get the best of the best. But this free agent season felt like that was going to change, right? Like they're in for Alex Bregman. If they don't get him, you know, uh is it Suarez that they go out and get? I don't know. Then when you're talking about starting pitching, you know, the Cubs, the guys that I've thought are the Cubs top of the line pitchers that would be perfect for this rotation to put up there with Kate Horton and Justin Steel are still available. And you know, as much of a question uh that imi is going to be right, I still feel like that even though he's coming from Japan, the fact that Yamamoto did what he did, uh Amaya's going to get paid, right? So then you're like, okay, well, you know, the club's going to go the $2 million route. I mean, excuse me, the $200 million route to get Tacia. I think they might. Now, the other guys that you hear constantly and people predict that the Cubs are going to sign are first off, Ranger Suarez. Padre, I'm excuse me, U. Philly. Great pitcher. Really, I mean, I say great because he's he makes all of his starts. He's really he he's a innings guy. keeps you in a ton of games. He's made the Phillies successful over the last few years. Uh Zack Allen is the other guy. The Diamondbacks, Mel Kelly, who they traded at the deadline, ended up resigning with the Diamondbacks. You know, you should wonder maybe if Gallon's going to end up resigning, too. I don't know. But it there was a report that Gallon signed already from Bob Nightingale. didn't happen yet, but he's someone else that you look at and so you're like, "Okay, it's I Gallon or Suarez." And if the Cubs don't get one of those three, I feel like there's going to be a lot of disappointed fans unless they go out and make a trade. And that could happen, too. We saw it last year with Kyle Tucker, that the front office has to have that same sense of urgency to win. because there's nothing guaranteed. You know, they got an extension, but there's nothing guaranteed long term. Another bad season and they could all be gone, you know, and and I and I don't want to see that. But what what I did like about last year was the fact that they showed up every day with purpose, with a sense of urgency, and it paid off for the team. It really did. So, this one's not that big of a deal to me. I never thought Michael King was going to sign with the Cubs anyway. Now, uh, kind of a funny story. Kyle Tucker saw himself on Netflix wake up dead man, a knife's out mystery, right? And it and it wasn't like he was like dressed up and in street clothes. No, it was a Cubs game at Wrigley and he's batting and it's in the background on a shot. Us Cubs fans are everywhere. Guarantee you a Cubs fan because we do this what we do. We love to slide the Cubs in on everything. I'm a big Jimmy Buffett guy. You know how many time Buffett's playing at Wrigley. We love that. Tom Petty played there. You know, I I guess it goes back to like Harry Kerry and Steve Stone and growing up and watching those guys call the games and watching all the games and thinking like this is it just always felt like a movie set. Uh Ferris Bueller went to Wrigley Field. I'm sure there's a ton of you know the little big league guy he pitched for the Cubs right [laughter] you got you got all this stuff that always seems to lead back to the Cubs and I love it anytime I can see the Cubs uh in the background but does this mean that Tucker is going to resign with the I don't think so. Uh I thought it was funny though that he tweeted that you know about having a cameo on there. Uh, I'm sure people were like, "Hey, dude, you're on the the show I'm watching right now on Netflix." Still not sure what Kyle Tucker's going to do. I I I really, really, really don't think he's going to resign with the Cubs. I think you guys feel the same way, too. And it would be great if he did, but I don't think he's going to. I'm going to do a show uh maybe maybe tomorrow. I mean, just one of these slower news days about the impact that Owen Casey and Moyes Spysteros are going to have to have on this team moving forward. because the Cubs right now, unless something changes, are very reliant on these guys to perform, to step up. So, we'll get into that. But anyway, look, thanks for hanging here on the channel like you always do. Uh, tell me in the comments section if there's something that you want me to cover because it's that time of year. Some days there's a lot. I didn't do a show yesterday because I just couldn't really figure out enough stuff to talk about. Maybe I should have talked about uh Casey and Bister Steros, but I just didn't feel like there was really a whole lot going on and I try to take at least one of the seven days off each week, you know. But anyway, like, subscribe, thumbs up. Thank you for being here and being part of our channel. And um and don't forget about Avenue D. I I should have led off the show with this, but I'm not gonna get off here without you. Hit that QR code right there and be part of Avenue D. Uh we're trying to basically use Kelshi, you know, Kelsey, the the the prediction market to uh to have a little bit of fun. Also, uh on top of that, the uh college football playoffs are here. We don't have baseball right now, um but we do have college football. And so Alabama and Oklahoma are playing on Friday and we're going to give you uh chances each quarter to win $250. So check check that out. It's all free. You can also win show swag there as well. It's our web free home. So uh so check that out. And you know the uh the the KOI market right now says that Oklahoma and the Cubs are 5050. So, but they predict elections and Grammys and uh who's going to win, what the Bears season's going to turn out, all that at Kelshi and uh it's really fun to kind of get an opportunity to talk about that. But anyway guys, like, subscribe, thumbs up. Thank you for being here. And again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. and go cup. [music]

  1. Ahhh Mick, Im here first…. Ok, we don’t get king we have other options but our opportunities in free agency are dwindling…. Let’s see what we can get through trading!!! How about going after Skubal

  2. As of right now the Cubs are gonna have a worse year than last year because Ricketts and Jed are bargain shopping and not trying to win. They consistently lose out on FA signings by a small amount of money or by not adding a year proves it. So don’t expect Bregman or Suarez unless they cut money or years from the other offers just to be a cub.

  3. 4 years is too much he’s only pitched 1 full season as a Starter. He’s worth 3 years with an opt out

Very good upside for a potential October starter. I do want him.

I’d bet on someone that takes a shorter deal.

Sometimes I wish the cubs just go all on trying to be smarter than everyone else.

Ryan weathers, taj Bradley. Kyle Harrison, a few other ex top prospects that the cubs think they can unlock value.

Bubiic, gore will be costly in terms of prospects but also how cubs operate expensive long term contracts

  4. Call Me crazy but I would resign Keller and sit back and save the rest of the available cash for Imai and if He does not sign You go with what You have and save Your resources for the Pen and wait for Wiggins or someone to grab at the trade deadline , Panicking and trading away Wiggins , Shaw, Caissie would be a far bigger mistake than missing on another SP and not fortifying the pen
