Minnesota Vikings News Dump (12.16.2025) | Greenard Done, Darrisaw Week-to-Week, JJ Gram
What's going on, Jerome? It's beautiful Tuesday. Birds are indeed chirping and stuff and it's time for another Vikings news dump. So, uh, yes, two days ago, Vikings beat the Cowboys. But I just love that Fox Sports use CJ Ham as the graphic. It's good stuff. Uh, CJ Ham on the season, one carry, one touchdown. It's a really good efficiency. Love to see, man. Oh, also one yard. Yeah. Uh, also [sighs] it's not unfortunate news, but is what it is. Emily Ler, Star Tribune. Kevin O Connell says outside linebacker Jonathan Gernard will undergo season ending shoulder surgery after reagravating his shoulder injury last night. Uh, Okonnell says he thought Gernard played one of his best games last night prior to his exit. And he did have he did have uh seven pressures as well as two half sacks uh in the game against Dallas. And you just reagravated the shoulder and it happens, man. Uh, and Gernard, I mean, yeah, last year Grard had 12 sacks. He was a Pro Bowler, and this year, I mean, havoc wise, he's been there, right? Just hasn't been closing on some of the sacks. But, you know, team captain, 47 pressures, 17.4% pressure rate, which is which is good. Ninth best in the league. Uh, three sacks, 10 tackles for loss, three passes broken up before fumble. Is under contract through 2027 at very reasonable rates for the next two years. though I if Grenard had had another great year, I think that contract would have gotten freshened up. Allah Andrew Van Ginkle uh but this year just the I I know it's unfair because you actually watch the games and Grard is all over the place just the almost sacks are tallying up but there is a reduction in production as well as you know the the shoulder injuries. I mean, that all factors in. So, I think Renard, who's going to be 29 next year, is going to have an FU proof it season. So, I I think that'll be good. Also good is the annual December drive. VMO, cash apps, and super chats in December will go towards Toys for Tots and Salvation Army Twin Cities. Uh just got got a bunch from the super chats on Sunday. Currently at about 1372 uh of the $3,000 goal for the month. Donation links in description below. Also, you can donate directly to Toys for Dots. Salvation Army. Uh, email producer alleyft [email protected] to be included in the tally. Also, personalized videos. So, I did way too many of these yesterday and they're they're fun every single time. Uh, email producer alley. Get that set up. There's the rates. Uh, ZJ, if you got to ask, you can't afford it, man. That's all. Also, in some injury news, uh, Kevin Seafford, ESPN, who's not Carl Gmidt, Kevin said left tackle Christian Darasaw had swelling in his left knee last week leading to his DNP versus the Cowboys. The Vikings will evaluate each week whether he can play in their remaining games, but Okonnell has no long-term concerns about Darasaw's ability uh availability. Now, you know, the left knee, you know, was a surgically repaired knee. Uh and it isn't a new injury or a setback, but you know, they got to be smart about this and I I still say they should just shut Darasaw down, right? So, shut him down and yeah, you're going to start Justin School. It is what it is. But frankly, the Vikings need to suture up the swing tackle position. Justin School is not it. See if Walter Rouse can be that guy. Hell, see if Joe Huber can be that guy. Blake Brandle, uh, etc. But, I don't know, like Darasaw, it'd be terrible if he had a setback, right? I I I know you want to protect McCarthy as much as possible, but you know, also speaking of protection, McCarthy actually did pretty good against Dallas's pretty formidable pass rush. Vikings fan page. Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy was pressured on just 22.2% of his drop backs last night per nextgen stats. Uh that was the second lowest pressure rate McCarthy has faced all season. And the fact that they did it with Darasaw out, but it was left tackle Justice School. It was Jackson, Kelly Fry, and O'Neal had his ankle dinged up. Uh he had uh Blake Brandle come in for a stretch there. So, it's really am impressive uh what the Vikings bas basically offens patchwork offensive line was able to do. So, it's good to see and also promising going forward where yeah, I mean McCarthy does need protection and as most quarterbacks around the league do and the fact that he's starting to get more comfortable in the pocket. He's climbing the pocket at times. He's buying extra time and he's helping out the offensive line makes a lot of sense which would be good. Also speak speaking of good JJ McCarthy. So he likes posting on the gram after wins. Uh th this one uh collection of photos and set to Frank Sinatra. That's life. That's life. And so had the gritty uh naked bootleg as well as you are not behind, you are on your own timeline. It hits hard. Why is our quarterback such a philosopher, man? Eight career starts and already stoic. It is what it is. It's good times. Yeah, the opposite of good times. So, Vikes fan page, uh, Vikings Hall of Famer Chris Katada on JJ McCarthy on the Up and Adam show. I still believe he can be the franchise quarterback, but let me tell you something right now today. We don't know. And CeCe is actually way more biting than some of his criticism about McCarthy. And I I I I get it. Like McCart uh first off, CC is an Ohio State alum, so he's got no time for a Michigan man at quarterback. But also, you know, CC is seeing things from the perspective of a wide receiver one. So, he's looking at Jefferson's production. He's looking at the passing numbers. He's like, I don't care that we're winning games. Wide receivers aren't getting fed. Which, nah, I I disagree with. And of course, you know, CC has been pretty hyperritical about McCarthy throughout this whole process. And also, this is what I love, too. So, the people who refuse to give McCarthy any credit are like, well, we need to see more. We need to see more of a sample size. Now, obviously it's true, but also they were so quick to write him off after one or two bad games. Aha, bust. Told you he was a bust. Blah blah blah blah blah. But it's okay. Give it time. Have some faith. And you know, does Tommy Kramer straight up believe in JJ McCarthy? Probably. But would he also tow the company line? Yes, I I think that he would. And I I understand like CC, you know, probably trying to be provocative out here so we can get clicks and stuff because that's the name of the game in the media nowadays, but I don't know. Rally up, man. Stand by your man. Everything's going to work out. Also, speaking of good, so I I I understand that McCarthy isn't throwing for 350 yards and nine touchdowns, which that'd be a record or something. Uh Vikings insider JJ McCarthy has the fourth highest EPA expected points added per play in the NFL over the last two weeks, which is not bad. Also, uh, Kevin Seafford, ESPN, who's not Carl Garberman, who's not, uh, NFL QBR, the past two weeks plus records. Uh, so I'm guessing the columns are games, games started, wins, losses, ties, winning percentage. I'm guessing that's it. And then QBR. So, JJ McCarthy checks in at five behind Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence been doing really damn good. Josh Allen, Brock Pury, who only played one game, Bon Knicks, whatever. Whatever. But the uh McCarthy set up at A2.1. You know who I don't see on this list? Sam Darnold. Not Sam, just Sam. But uh I mean, yeah, CC can criticize all that he wants, but the Vikings are playing winning football. And McCarthy is looking good, distributing the rock. Maybe not as much as he he would like to Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, but that'll come. He'll be there. Yeah. Also be there. So Harrison Smith is probably being there in his last season, number 14 in the league. Wax Vampage Viking safety Harrison Smith says he's taking it day by day when asked about what the plan is for after the season. I'm just enjoying dayby day. You know how it is when you're getting towards your later years. It's hard harder to go to practice, hard to get ready to go every time. On game day, I always feel ready. Of course, he was talking to um he was talking to Rodney Harrison, uh Super Bowl winning safety in his own right. And yeah, Harrison, this is probably it. But I I love that Harrison has had a couple of turn back the clock type games. Uh had the pick against the commies, but the bang thing on the Cowboys like usual. And yeah, deuce deuce. Great career man and going to miss him. [snorts] Yeah, draft Caleb DS. That's it. Uh, also in from the Hey, this is a really stupid trade idea department over at FanDuel. Uh, you know, of course they're trying to do the Vikings to Bill's wide receiver pipeline. They're trying to get Stefan Diggs again. But, uh, who says no? Bills received Justin Jefferson and a sixth round pick. No, just straight up no. Don't even care what the compensation is. Vikings received 2026 first round pick which is going to be late first round pick because of the Bills going to make some hay in the playoffs. If the Bills don't win a Super Bowl this year with no Momes, no Burrow, no Lamar Jackson, they're never going to win a Super Bowl ever. Ever. 2027 first round pick. 2027 seventh round pick. Woo! Lida and Keon Coleman. Who wants Keon Coleman? You've already benched him two games for not putting in the work and not being serious. What's he gonna do? You know, talk about Macy's. Oh, I got this jacket of Macy's. Is that what it is? So, basically, you're saying, you know, Keon Coleman is So, the late round picks are a wash. So, you're saying Keon Coleman is worth a first round pick, which he's not. And then you want a late first and then probably another late first and Keon Coleman for Justin Jefferson. No, that's all. Who says no? Everybody. Do you see Mike Lynn as GM of the Vikings right now? Nah. No. No. No. No. No. Also, so the NFC North race is what it is. Vikings technically have a chance to not finish last. If the Vikings win out, the Lions lose out. But ESPN bet Kale Williams and the Bears have not lost a game at home since week one. Who did they lose to? Who did they lose to week one? Hm. It's weird. How what happened? What happened? What happened? Yeah. One of the nice moments for this year. But Packers are one half point favorites against the Bears in Chicago. I actually don't like when there's two division games within three weeks and you you see those scheduling quirks sometimes. I don't like it. I don't like it, man. Where space them out a little bit so the teams actually have a chance to develop and change. But it's okay. I uh I don't know who I'm rooting for because f the Bears and also certainly f the Packers. But also I don't I don't know why the Packers are still When did this come out after the Parsons injury? I don't know how the Packers are still favored, but I digress. Yeah, speaking of playoffs, playoffs, NFL and ESPN uh Rich Eisen show talk about the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. You're going to miss the Chiefs in the playoffs. The league is more fun when the Chiefs are good. I can't wait to see how they're going to come back and make it happen again. False. Now, I I like Kansas City. Love the hardworking people there. Love the barbecue. But no one's going to miss the Chiefs. No one's going to miss Mahomes and the Chiefs getting every single call. No one's going to miss the Taylor Swift references. No one's gonna miss Kelsey in every single commercial. No one is going to miss this. Like, who who wants this? Nobody. The the league did just fine in between Super Bowl 4 and, you know, the Shottenheimer era and then now with Mahomes when the Chiefs were bad. The Chiefs were terribly for a long time. And guess what? Uh oh. Yeah. Life goes on. Right. And also I want some new blood in these playoffs. Like I want the H how about the the Rams Texans Super Bowl one time. One time. Of course, the Rams are sort of old hat, but it's okay. Anyways, that's it. That's life. That's life. That's life. Beautiful Tuesday. You guys are the best you to do. Skull production value.

Skol!!
Rooting for the bears. Nobody wants to see the packers win
Where is Rouse ???
Never let hom play skule is horrible idk why he still on the team!!! Chris needs to go to
Man. I'm really rooting for JJ. His personality absolutely rubs opposing fans the wrong way and it's too easy to troll them.
Man i feel like H Smith still has some gas in the tank. I think he is a mild contributor for another couple years
I hope McCarthy plays catch with JJ over the summer. they need to get in synch this coming season
NO!!
JJ has a LONG WAY to go. He still overthrows receivers. Got away with 2 almost picks. Quit with the face paint and focus on football
Hammer is a Viking homegrown great! Love to see him blocking for JerLove. JG is the key to our entire pass rush. Heal fast. No CD until ‘26. Jets deserves 1k & a couple Tuddies for his patience & leadership. Keep going JJ.
Loving the Christmas intro by the way 🎄
Edit: I also fully agree with that Bills comment.
I’m going to be honest, I want to be last place in the division. Looking at Bears this year being last place while also have a 6/10 year means so much. If we get second that means we get to play teams like the Titans and not the other AFC south
For fun, I'm going to put the hat of Greenard's agent: 🤓
To be frank, 'splash plays' should not be a major factor in deciding a player's contract. Yes, AVG has a number of INTs & 'pick-6' plays over the years, but Greenard is just as valuable to the defence, because Greenard (a) is usually occupying two pass protectors, (b) gets held all the time (with very few flags thrown), (c) frequently moves the QB off his spot, and (d) makes good use of his high football IQ in pass protection.👍 The fact that QBs have been able to escape the onrushing Greenard has more to do with (a) a lack of penetration by the iDL & opposite edge rusher, (b) not enough lane discipline by other rushers/blitzers, (c) opposing OCs emphasizing to their QB getting rid of the ball quickly & knowing their escape routes, and (d) a large percentage of opposing QBs being athletic & elusive. 🤔 (..I rest my case…lol..)
Did I miss an individual specifically ripping on Justin Skule? Because he does not get enough flack for how bad he is at left tackle
Skule looked good Sunday. He's been given some impossible assignments this year.
McCarthy will bring the Vikings a super bowl skol ✅
False. I'll miss the chiefs in the playoffs. Love watching Mahomes in the post season. Love watching greatness. Love the Mahomes vs Allen rivalry. Will definitely miss it.
11:15 the league is more fun when teams your not expecting, make it to the playoffs.
