Joe Benigno SNAPS Over Alonso & Díaz Leaving! “Cohen SOLD US A BILL OF GOODS!”
For the last few months, deep in my soul, I had a confidence. I had a confidence and a belief that Edwin Diaz would come back. I had a confidence and belief that eventually the Mets would do the right thing with Pete Alonzo and he would be back. But Joe B for months has warned none of that would happen. And so, let's hear from him, the legend himself. He joins us every Monday, usually after Jet losses. But today, I needed to hear his voice. We all needed to hear his voice because today is an alltime sad day in the history of this decrepit franchise. Yesterday it was Diaz. Today it's Alonzo. Bro, the floor is yours. >> You know, look, bro, you know, I've seen it all, okay? I saw Tom Siver get traded. I I you know, I saw Daryl walk. I mean, I I can't tell you how upset I was in both those cases. This is this is right there. I mean, I know it's not Sver. I understand that, but this is right there. And let's be honest, and I I I texted this to you, okay? Let's you know, I can't stand David Sterns, okay? He thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. You know, we're going to find out now how how freaking smart David Sterns is, okay? You're going to go out. Let's see what you're going to do now, David. Cuz right now, we're nowhere near the Dodgers. We're nowhere near the Phillies. We're probably nowhere near the near the Braves. And I tell you, bro, I don't even know if we're as good as the Marlins right now. Okay, let's let's let's be honest about it, right? Okay. So, we're going to find out how brilliant, you know, that Harvard education serves David Sterns. Okay, we'll see. But you know what? The guy that's the real culprit is the owner. The owner sold us a bill of goods. We all thought we were all sucked in, bro. You said it. We all said it. Uncle Steviey's big money and it's never going to be the same like it was with the Will Ponds. And he spent money. Okay. The whole Verlander Sherzer, I get it. All right. He he went on and got sodto. But where is this guy? He's supposed to be like Mr. Met. He's I got to see him on at courtside at the Garden at the playoff games with THE MET HAT ON. I WHAT KIND OF MET fan are you telling me you're a Met fan, Cohen? Forget about Sterns. He's a fraud as far as a Met fan. He's probably got, you know, Yankee gear at home. [laughter] But but you know, but I I but Steve Cohen, you know what, bro? I I don't know if I texted this. I I said this to a few people today. Okay, we all knew what the Will Ponds were. We knew what they were. We knew they were cheap. Freddy Coupon, they would never sign anybody. Vladimir Guerrero, uh, you know, A-Rod, whoever it may be. They were never going to sign any of these guys. Okay? Never. And he would have never signed Juan Sodto. But you know what? [snorts] I really believe Fred Wilpon, Jeff Wilpon would have re recognized because they did this with David Wright, even though it didn't work out. recognized what Alonszo specifically meant to the organization and they would have signed him. I really believe that as much as we get on Will Ponds and this guy was is nowhere to be found. HE'S NOWHERE to be found this owner. He sold us a bill a good 5 years. We're going to win a championship. What? WHERE I MEAN I don't care what they do. And by the way, I don't care what the little genius does now the rest of the way. I really I don't care. Okay? You could trade for Scooble. You could bring in, you know, Suarez and Valdez. You could bring both of those guys in. You could get Tucker. You could get Bellinger. All of this, okay? And it doesn't make up for this. And it doesn't make us still a better team than the Dodgers or dare I say any of these other teams. THE DODGERS HAD EVERYTHING. AND NOW THEY GOT THE BEST CLOSER IN THE GAME. WHAT? I I don't know if that's why I'm going to say what I'm going to say. And I'm curious how you feel about this. And I'm stunned about what I'm going to say, but we've had backto-back days of pain. I think I was more pissed and hurt yesterday about Diaz going to the Dodgers than even Alonzo to the Orioles. And I'm stunned by that. And I don't know if it's because of the Dodger thing. What hurt you more, Diaz yesterday or Alonzo today? >> Look, they both really hurt. Look, because let's be honest, Diaz has become an iconic Met, too. I mean, I understand he wasn't a a homegrown Met, but you know what? That trade, you know, that that Van Wagon made all those years ago, Robbie Canó, it turned out to be pretty damn good. You know, I don't know where Kelnik is these days, but it turned out to be, you know, a pretty good trade and and I've seen every closer, bro, and I don't want to go down a list. You know, I've seen him from really from Ken McKenzie and Doug Mcgra to Familia and and Bonitz and and all of them, Franco, everybody. Okay, this guy might have been the best we ever had. He's one of the few pitchers in baseball where when he was in the game, bro, he was, you know, he get a little nervous. He'll hit the he'll hit the lead off batter, you know, he'll walk two guys in a row. You're going nuts and then he get out. THEN HE GET OUT OF IT. HOW MANY TIMES DO WE SEE THAT HAPPEN? Strike out the side, you know, whatever it may be. >> Uh he was money in the bank and he's the best closer in the game and they let him walk and they let him walk for $3 million. Well, you're going to tell me that that Uncle Stevie couldn't have said, "Wait a minute. Wait a minute. The difference is three is not even years. It's $3 million." Well, I'll tell you what. Let's go four years and 75 million. Do you think he would have stayed with the Mets for that? >> Okay. Where was that? Where where was Cohen? >> Joe, what what is more frustrating? The fact that Pete didn't even get an offer or that Edwin Diaz apparently and we're just alleging this. Apparently got his feelings hurt and that's why he went to the Dodgers. >> Well, look, you know what? I don't blame him. I mean, they all they gave this stiff Devin Williams. Devin Williams, bro. They gave him three years and 51 million. You know, he loves his ex Brewers. I mean, I think maybe I don't know. I heard a rumor maybe Robin Yant [laughter] would come out of retirement. Maybe Paul Moler is going to take over for Alonzo. I don't know. Okay. Cuz he loves his you know, Mr. Brewer there. Okay. I mean, I mean, you got to be I I I don't I'm I'm beside myself. I really am with this guy. I really I am just completely beside myself. Uh this guy was an iconic Met, Pete Alonzo. How do you let him off? But getting back to Devin Williams, that's right. We're talking about him. getting back to him. Yeah, you gave him three more years and $51 million, right? I'm the best closer in the league and what are you giving me? This team has given me more. You got to go above and beyond for a guy like that. Come on. You couldn't have given him four years. He's got four solid years left. Who's kidding who? And and gave him 707 $75 million, whatever it was. What a disgrace. And let's be honest, okay? [snorts] And I heard one of the guy I don't I don't you know the name. I'm not going to say his name, but I heard him last night on SNY try to say to the world that Devin Williams was as good a closer as Edwin Diaz. Are you kidding me? GIVE ME A BREAK. You know what? Devin Williams in the biggest game of his life gave it up to Pete Alonzo. >> Bro, that that here's the thing and you you just nailed it. >> Devin Williams was a fine regular season closer for the Milwaukee Brewers. But where we measure our closers, it's why we don't celebrate ARMANDO BONITZ. HE WAS A FINE regular season closer. He was terrific in the regular season bit to BIT WHEN IT MATTERED. THE SAME THING WITH THAT OVERRATED STIFF BILLY WAGNER. WELL, I DON'T WANT TO CELEBRATE. >> OH MY GOD. Hall of Famer. He's in the hall, bro. He's in the Hall of Fame. But you know what? Don Maddingley is not. >> But that's but that's the issue with Devin Williams. Like you ask me right now, Joe, can Devin Williams have a good year as closer for the Mets? Sure he can. Do I trust him? In the biggest of moments that Edwin Diaz ended up proving to us we could. That's and that is the million-dollar question for any Met closer. Yeah, you can save games in May. What are you going to do when the chips are down? >> Yeah. Look, bro, it's it's unbelievable. I What kind And like you said, to go to the Dodgers. So, the Dodgers who already are backtoback world champions. They're already loaded to the freaking gills. Hall of Famers everywhere, the best player in baseball, right? They got the one starting pitcher that pitches nine innings. It's ridiculous. And now, and wait a minute. And now you're GONNA GIVE THEM THE BEST CLOSER. AND YOU'RE GONNA TELL ME and David Sterns is going to try to tell me that we're competing for a championship this year. Are you kidding? Come on, bro. Look, just look at the moves that this guy has done so far. He trades another homegrown net, Brandon NMO, for this over over the hill second baseman who's three years older. You know, he loves OPS. Well, I mean, Nimmo only had 100 point ops more than Simeon does. He had 30 more RBI's. He's three years younger. And this is the trade you made. You signed Williams for this stupid ridiculous with Devin Williams. And now you let two iconic Mets walk away. You got to be kidding me, bro. How are we? I don't care if he gets I told you I don't care if he gets scoo. And you know what? I really think this is what's going to happen. I actually put him on the other day for a second. Okay. I don't want anything to do with him. Everybody's telling me, "Oh, Sterns is going to speak 6:30 tomorrow in SNI." Okay, great. I, you know, I actually was watching the president's speech. Forget Stern. [laughter] What? What? Okay, give me a break. Whatever. Okay. But I did put it on for 2 minutes and there he is with that, you know, he's got that, you know, s eating grin on his face and all of that. I'm smarter than everybody in the room. And he's sitting there talking about how, well, we got the best farm system in baseball, one of the best. You know what that means, bro? that they're not going to spend. They're gonna make moves. They have to do something with the rotation. I mean, they have no rotation. They got to do something. But I'm telling you, don't be shocked if he's going to have Jet Williams and this kid, what's his name, the center fielder? >> Carson Bench. >> And that that's our center and left field starting next year. Don't be shocked. And then you're going to try to What are you going to do? McNeel's Somebody told me that they're talking about signing Paul Goldmid. >> Yes. A Jeff McNeel Paul Goldmid platoon at first base. They internally DISCUSSED >> AND WE'RE BETTER. NO WAY WE'RE BETTER. Is he going to trade Lindor? Is he thinking about trading him, too? How about that? Is he going to do that? >> Would you Would you put it past him? >> I put nothing by Sterns. >> And I'm telling you right now, his rear his little rear end is on the line because we're going to find out, Ev just how freaking smart David Sterns is. And And I'm going to tell you this, one more thing, too. But the owner, really, I'm pissed at the owner. I can't tell you how ticked off I am at him because he sold us a bill of goods. You know, we couldn't wait. WE WERE DOING A DANCE. THE WILL PONDS ARE GONE. OH, thank God. And And this guy's a phony. We at least, like I said, we knew what the Will Ponds were. This guy sold us a bill of goods and now he's turning into be the biggest phony in the world. And you didn't even You didn't even talk to Pete. You didn't even talk to this guy, bro. >> They let him leave. They're like, "Nah, we're not going 5 years." So, why bother? WHY BOTHER? >> NAH, THEY DIDN'T WANT HIM. YOU Sterns never wanted him. The only reason he came back last year is because nobody was signing him and because that fanfest, and I doubt they're having any fanfest this year. I mean, you could >> Can you imagine the reactions today? >> No, I there's no way they will expose David Sterns to the fan base. I'm tell He could get Babe Ruth. I'm telling [laughter] you. And and it and they're not exposing him to the fan base. That's the question. >> That's the only reason, bro, cuz the fans went nuts and and Cohen got a little ticked off and said, you know, we better sign the guy. And they gave him a crap contract. Real, let's be honest. >> So, this is the complicated thing because I I'm struggling with it. I wanted Peep back. I wanted Diaz back, but I'm also trying to think, all right, what do I want now? What do I want now? Is there anybody in free agency? I don't know if it's Bregman. He's a winning ball player. Is there anyone that would excite you? >> No. No. Go get get the big picture. Okay. Here's here's what I would say now. There's no everyday player that excites me. Not Tucker. Not Bellinger. The Yankees should resign Belling. He's a Yankee. Go side with the Yankees. Uh you know, none of these guys except Bregman. I know he was a winning player in Houston and all. Come on. I mean, give me a break. You think he's going to be hitting a lot of home runs of in left field in City Field? Give me a break. Not happening. You know, but you know what kills me too? He talks about run prevention. So, let's let the best closer in baseball go. How could you sell me run prevention and you let the best closer in baseball go? But just getting back to what he can do, you better go get this. You You better give me a big time starting rotation. You better go find a way to get this guy Scooble. Okay, you better. I don't want Joe Ryan. I don't want this other Milwaukee Brewer. What's his name? Freddy Peralta. I don't want him either. You know what? He's another boo. What is he? Pete Vukovich. I mean, [laughter] I won the Sai Young Award in 1981 or 82, whatever it was. I don't know. Mike Cowwell, I don't want this. I don't want him. Okay. Go get Scooble or go get somehow get, you know, get Paul Skins here somehow. Okay. Sign Ranger Suarez. Sign Franbar Valdez. You do that. Okay. And then I'll say, "Ah, I I'm not going to be happy and I'm not going to think we're winning any World Series this year, but you know, you you showed me something because I don't think he's going to do anything." I'm telling you, bro, you watch you I'm telling you, he's going to go with these young guys. He is. >> Where would you cuz I was too young for this, so I I lean on you to tell me when Daryl left and you had that same feeling that Cashion had no interest in bringing him back. Where would you and how would you compare your feelings towards that moment of Daryl to the Dodgers versus Pete now to Baltimore? >> You know, it's like Pete is really the modernday Daryl. I mean, that's really what he is. And look, Daryl Strawberry is my all-time favorite player. I love him. I love Daryl. I I got a relationship with him now. He's a great guy. Okay? You know, he's really straightened his life out the whole thing. Uh he's my guy when I'll never forget the moment Frank [snorts] Cashin, who I I can't stand him, okay? And we'll get into that, too. But Frank Cashion goes on television and says, and at the time it was a big deal in 1989, whatever it was, 1990, and said Daryl Strawberry is not a $5 million a year ball player. I'll never forget him saying that. And I was like, what? Are you kidding me? And I know Daryl, look, you could say he wanted to leave and go to the Dodgers. If they would have blew him out, they didn't even try to make a big offer of him. And then they turned around and they signed that stiff Vince Coleman. Are you kidding? But you know what? Even though Cashin dismantled the base a world championship team, right? Got rid of Kevin Mitchell, you let Ray Knight go, right? The the whole deal. He let Daryl walk on and on with all the disaster that he was. Okay. Right. Lenny Dyster, he trades away all of that. Okay. At least Cash won me a championship. This guy's won nothing. This guy has won abs. He didn't win anything in Milwaukee. And he's like the resident genius of all time. I'm tell I bro I'm telling you I would I would I'm [snorts] tell I hate to say this because I love my team. The clock is ticking. I want to win a championship. I want to be with my my old partner on on on at the parade. Okay. >> Amen. >> All right. I want to be at the parade. You and I had to go to parades for teams we don't root for. We were at two giant [laughter] parades. We we were at a freaking Yankee parade. Okay. You know the deal. Okay. >> All right. >> I want to be at a parade cuz I was I didn't go to any of the parades. I didn't go to the Jets didn't even have a parade. I didn't go to, you know, 86. I didn't go to that or 69, you know. I didn't go to the Ranger parade. I don't think the Knicks didn't have a parade that I remember. Okay. But whatever. Okay. I want to go to a parade that's my team. I want to be there with my good buddy and great Met fan that he is, Evan Roberts, who has never seen a championship. At least I've seen him. Even though it's like, you know, you know, a little little younger then, but whatever. At least I've seen it. I want to be with you on on the not the float, but just being there at the parade. >> Trust me, we're not on the float anymore. Sterns in the compliment. Sure of that. >> Well, Sterns ain't let me tell you, bro. I'm confident that Sterns will not be on the float either. >> I'm confident that David Sterns will not be the general manager when we win another championship. I am confident of that. And I am very disappointed in this owner. He sold us a bill of goods and he stuck it right up our rear end. Let's be honest about it. That's exactly what he did. And the the worst move he made was he hired this guy. This guy is a small market GM who is here to I'm I really believe this to run the Mets like a small market team. He spent his money. He paid for Sodto. You know, the money he spent on Verlander sher all that what how that didn't work out and all of that. He He's not spending money no more, bro. I'm telling you that's exactly what's going on here. He is now supposedly with all Uncle Steviey's beautiful money. Maybe Uncle Stevie doesn't have as much beautiful money as we think. Or if he does, he's more concerned about his casinos and his Rembrandts. That's my feel. [laughter] >> Or his gold toilets that he buys and sells. >> Does he is that what he does? >> He bought a gold toilet and then recently sold the said gold toilet. >> So, >> well, you know, maybe you can send me a gold toilet so I can uh puke my brains out into it. Okay. After this, >> that's all of us today. It's a sad couple of days, bro. Hopefully, we'll be on that parade, but it doesn't feel >> doesn't feel like we're close right now. >> You still got, you know, bro, the only thing I'll say is you still got a lot of years. My my clock is ticking, so but uh it's a sad day. It's a sad day for the New York Mets today. No question about it. >> Thank you, Joe. We love you, man. Good luck. All right, man. God bless. >> [music]

In the world of sports can somebody tell me what other GM has dismantled the core group of a team instead of complimenting what is already there? I can only think of one fool…David Stearns. Maybe a couple of good starting pitchers would have helped instead of getting rid of Nimmo and not signing Diaz or Alonso.
After all that Juan Soto gloating I love it as a Yankee fan. Have fun you chumps 😂
As a Yankee fan, Devin lost his closer role TWICE!! In his only year as a Yankee…TWICE!! He gave it up to Pete Alonso 2 years ago, Pete’s best moment as a Met. This idea he’s as good as Diaz is INSANE. Good for Mets’ fans who know they’re being gaslit.
We've been used by a gazillionare owner for a casino, simple as that
The all time home run leader….yeah that guy, that’s who they let go?!?! That’s who they didn’t even offer a contract to?!? They were supposed to add pitching pitching pitching not breakup the team 😔🫣
FIRE STERNS
Is Armando Benitez available?
I cant believe id say this but Wilson's would have kept all 3 Brandon edwin and pete. This is insane
Sterns doesn't understand us mets fans we want to win a WS but we wanted it with our players.i dont care if sterns builds a WS team we wanted it with our guys. All he had to do was get starting pitching and a hitting center fielder such a idiot. Fire him asap
As a Phillies fan, when I saw Diaz out there I knew it was over. And we’ve seen far too much of him over the last few years 😂 Stearns is one of the worst general managers ever, and I’m glad he’s not ours!
As a dodger fan, it’s been fun watching all these videos 😅. I hope the Mets can get it together , I would rather play against the Mets than the Padres lol
I AM 100% with JOE BENIGNO AND OTHERS 2 soeakers. DAVID STEARNS IS NOT PREPARED FOR HIS ROLE, JOE B WOULD DO A BETTER THAN STEARNS. OTHER THING, I NEVER WOULD SIGN JUAN SOTO IN 2024
O's finally get payback from the 69' series! 🔥😅
As a Mets fan, I did not want to see this same 2025 team rolled out for another season. They were predictably bad, depressing, to the point I could hardly watch. I liked Pete, Edwin, and Nimmo, BUT, it wasn't going to happen with these guys. Time to move on, pull off the band-aid and begin a new. LGM
These A.I. thumbnails HAVE to go. They are terrible.
Here's your bill for these goods. COD, or we take 'em back.
How do we replace the production of Nimmo and Alonso?
The Soto affect. You paid someone way to much for mediocre output. Good replacing 50+ and 130+.
Who cares…get a life
LOVE, LOVE JOE !!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😊😊😊😊😊😊💖💖💖💖💖💖
Sad day? 😮 Pete, Diaz, Nimmo they all under achieve this year. New blood is needed. Let's be honest, Joe needs to put in pasture . Joe stayed retired. Your Schick is getting old. Look Pete was lucky to hit that home run. They both did not close the deal.
Mets fans beloved polar bear's defensive rankings typically place him among the worst first basemen in the game: a microcosm of how bad the team is defensively. It needs a rebuild: Soto and the stud rookie pitcher should be the only lock on this team; everything else should be tradeable.
COHEN NEVER GOING TO WIN A WORLD SERIES SPENDS FOOLISH LY
Sterns doing things backward pithing first
“BRO!!!”
Benigno kept my sanity overnights 89, 90.. As well as Steve Somers
Stearns' method of "valuing" players is nonsensical.
Trade Lindor!
Blah blah blah. This is the right thing to do. Yall full of sheet.
"Say it ain't so Joe. Say it ain't so"!😥😥
Alonso had a better season than soto at what 1/8 of the price and he can't get a better contract and he's a franchise system player and he's now in a different city and league the Mets are never going anymore until they make smarter moves and use their heads to keep talent and aquire better talent
I'll miss Pete in NY now he's gone the Mets have zero to offer me to bother watching their games I'll watch Pete in Baltimore hope he has a great career their
Here for the rant. I’m a Braves fan but I’m mad they let Alonso and Diaz walk.
What !?, What!?, What!?
Joe B is just a class Act all around.
Diaz wants to play for a winning team. He saw the writing on the wall.
David Stearns is a joke. He staked this past season on signing likes Canning, Montas, Manea, and Holmes. And because it blew up in his face, he blames all-time Mets like Nimmo, Diaz, and Alonso. And then gets rid of all of them. I’m beyond pissed off. How do you let Diaz go to the dodgers? Pathetic. Let em have it, Joe.
