Tyrone Tracy Jr.: “I commend the offensive line” | New York Giants

Hey Tyrone, how are you? >> I'm doing good. How you doing Patty? >> I'm doing well. Thanks for asking. Tyrone, at last check, the Giants rushing game was ranked 10th in the league. Can you just talk about the progress that unit has made and also the job done by the offensive line in terms of the run blocking? >> Yeah, I mean the offensive line has been doing a phenomenal job. Um obviously you got um every team has their own tricks um that they try to come out with each game try to get us with and our line does they do a good job of just um you know blocking who who needs to be blocked having a hat on a hat and then you know making a lane for the running backs whether it's me motor motor or scat. So um I definitely uh commend the offensive line on the job that they've done up to this point. Um, and I also want to, you know, tip my hat to the, uh, to the offensive line coach, um, running back coach, TK, the tight end's coach, uh, offensive coordinator, um, because they they come up with a with a great run scheme, um, each and every week. Um, allowing us to put little wrinkles here and there. Um, you know, like I said, whether um, it's on the outside zone, inside zone, counter, whatever it may be, um, they do a great job of, um, you know, getting the ball into our playmakers and also having, um, a good run scheme up each week. And can you just speak briefly about your contribution to the running game? I mean, it looks like you're having a a pretty good year and you know, do you just feel more comfortable? I mean, what what do you think attribute, you know, your success to this year? >> Uh, yeah. I mean, to be honest, I feel, you know, the same that I felt last year. Um, it's really no different. Um, yeah, I'm a little more comfortable. Um, but I mean, I feel like the the more I get the ball, the better, the better I play. Um, so, um, you know, if you give me the ball, you know, 20 plus times, I I should, um, give you, uh, 100 yards, whether it's, you know, passing, receiving, um, just scrimmage wise. Um, just that's just me in my head. Um, that's my u my goal. Um, each and every game, if I if you going to give a playmaker the ball, um, which I do believe I'm a playmaker, um, I want to be able to give positive yards to the offense. So, um I I think my my my running style compliments our own line as well. Um I think I look at myself as like a slasher. I'm not really a thumper. Um but I will turn into a thumper if needed. Um but yeah, I think I look at myself as a slasher. Um I like to to make moves um you know, make people miss um get vertical um pretty quickly. Like I said, I think that that really helps out our our line. >> Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Evan Barnes. >> Hey, Tyron. How you doing, man? >> Doing good. How you doing? >> Good. good. Uh, with three games left, I know a lot of, you know, outside noise has talked about, you know, oh, you know, where could the Giants fall in draft position and looking at the number one pick, but obviously you guys are focusing on one game at a time. So, I'm just curious, how do you guys as a team not worry about that or even think about that because obviously there's a lot of outside chatter about, you know, focusing on, you know, draft position and whatnot. >> Yeah. Um, I mean, to be honest with you, it's just taking a day by day. Um we don't really look at you know three games ahead or you know three weeks ahead. More so just taking it week by week um day by day um you know whatever is important in a moment like what's what are we doing right now where your feet are at. Be where your feet is at. So um like we try not to look to tomorrow. Just try to continue to stay present. Um and then understand that like we can't even get to you know week three without taking care of you know week one you know. So, we have to do the things necessary to, you know, stay in the moment with our brothers, with the coaching staff, understanding um that we have to, you know, go out and win this week so we can get to next week, but we can't get to next week without obviously winning uh this week. So, um that's really that's really how we do it. Again, we have a we have a tight-knit um bond, our locker room. Um everyone is on the running the same track, running the same way. Um, so I I mean I don't think um that anybody is uh looking elsewhere. We all are like I said looking towards the next game and >> and it feels like too these last especially you know this last game it feels like you guys are obviously after that bad first half you guys were competing and got you know had a much better second half. So even though the the losing streak has added up it feels like the team is still competing still trying to fight. Can you speak to just kind of like how you've noticed that that that edge from the guys, you know, outside of that Patriots game where, you know, it's out of hand, but do can you speak to the edge you've seen from these guys still competing, still fighting? >> Yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, if you look at every game that we've been in really um besides I say a few games, but every game we have competed. I mean, not even like compete, we've been winning these games, we just obviously the ball just haven't rolled our way towards the end of the end of the game. Um, but when you, like I said, you look at the the the film, when you look at the stats, or you look at really everything, like we are going out there and we're we're we're hooping like we're doing we're doing everything um that we can to to win the game. Um, and that that's not going to change going forward. Um, I mean, like you said, in the first half, obviously, we didn't play play well, but we we went in to halftime, regroup, calm down a little bit. Um, you know, encourage each other, and then come out second half and again, come out ready to compete. And that's what's going to happen each and every game. Like we're not we're never going to go out and and try to lose or we're not going to just, you know, throw a game away. Like we we're going out there to win. Like point blank period. Like I don't I don't we don't care what the outside has to say about draft pick. We don't care about um what they have to say about you know players in college that's you know that we should get or we could get. We worry about you know the coaches that we have right now, the players that we have right now and the position that and the opportunities that we get to to to have when we go out there on the field. >> Appreciate that Tyrone. Thank you. >> Yep. Thank you. >> Hi, Valentine. >> Tyrone, how are you? >> I'm doing good. How you doing? >> I'm good. Hey, I wanted to ask you, you had the nice touchdown catch on Sunday. >> Mhm. >> Um and obviously you were a wide receiver in college. Is there is there an adjustment to obviously catching the ball is catching the ball, but is it different, you know, as a running back? Maybe the angles the ball comes from, the routes that you have to run. Is there an adjustment to catching the ball as a running back? >> Uh, nah, not really. I mean, like I said, I was a receiver before, so I I mean, I done seen it all. Uh, honestly, um, in high school and in college, I done, you know, I done ran slant routes. I done ran um go balls. I done I done did everything. So, really not nothing that the, you know, quarterback can throw or the offensive coordinator can put me in that I haven't seen already or haven't ran a route or whatever. Um but yeah, I mean obviously I'm excited to be able to have the opportunity to go out there um and just take care of business, man. Show really the fans, but also the coaching staff that like, you know, I can I can run routes, I can catch the ball down the field, and you know, the more you can do in this league, obviously, the more valuable you become. >> Just uh last thing for me, any over the last three games, any real, you know, personal goals, milestones, anything that you'd really like to hit over the last three games? Um, no. I mean, not not really like goals. Um, like I said, obviously like I want as as many yards as possible. I mean, I don't I don't even know where I'm at to be honest. I don't really look at it. I don't know like my stats and all that. But, um, yeah. I mean, as as long as we win, man. I really don't care what my stat line is, man. To be honest, as long as we win, I just want to make sure that, you know, we take care of this first game, the Vikings, and then obviously we we trickle down to to the last two. But um yeah, I really statswise for me, I mean it's it's nothing. I don't I don't care. >> Thank you. >> Last one. Peter Splendorio. >> Hey Tyrone. Um want to ask you just I guess about Andrew Thomas. You know, obviously uh he's kind of had a weird season just with missing the start and then kind of building up gradually, but has he's gone on. I mean, how how has he looked to you? Has he has he looked like himself? And at what point, if so, did he kind of get there? H >> how do he look to you? Because I mean I mean I think to the to the general public that boy's a monster. So >> I I feel like that's uh that's just the common common sense when you look at his film and you watch it. Uh you see him dominate like in my he the best left tackle in the league. Like the the man came off of injury, came back like nothing nothing happened, you know? So uh that's really hard to do in this league. And mind you, he's on an island 99% of the time. like he's not getting no help from guards or chip from me or anything. Like it's just him versus that DN and he's taking care of business run game and pass game. So, um to answer your question, man, I think the dude's all pro. Like he's a first team all pro. He should get a Pro Bowl. Like all these accolades that that come with um you know that come with the job, especially at the the level that he's playing, he deserves it. He at deserves everything that that's coming his way for sure.
