The Chicago Cubs are re-signing left-handed reliever Caleb Thielbar after a strong 2024 season, sources tell CHGO and Jeff Passan. Thielbar, 38, posted a 2.64 ERA in 67 games, providing a steady and reliable lefty presence in the Cubs bullpen last year. On the CHGO Cubs Podcast, hosted by Luke Stuckmeyer, Joey Christopoulos, and Justin Roman, we break down why this move matters, how Thielbar fits alongside newcomer Hoby Milner, and what it means for Chicago’s pitching depth. The deal is pending a physical as the Cubs continue to shape their bullpen for the upcoming season.

  1. Imanaga wasn't even bad in the 2nd half. Just in September and October. In June he was good, July he was solid. And in August he was the best he'd ever been and dominant.

  2. If you're the Cubs you look at Nico and say his value may never be higher. Trade Nico now for the high end pitching prospects then go trade for Marte who can play all over and is an elite bat.

  3. I'm heartened to see more people thinking like I do about Seiya's defense. Other than a couple gaffes in big moments, he's been solid defensively. His error totals are always low, and he has a great arm. As for his bat, he's shown many stretches of being a monster, but I do think he needs protection. Maybe Busch or PCA or MoBaller can grow offensively enough to be the protection. As I said yesterday, when Tucker was hot and pitchers had to pitch to Seiya, he was crushing. When Tucker slumped, and pitchers could toy with Seiya more, that's when he gets into his own head and becomes more passive and leaves himself open to getting screwed on third strike calls – which happens to him a lot. But toward the end of the season, and in the playoffs, even with Tucker still slumping, he turned it around and started crushing again. But I will say, don't extend him now, let the season play out. If he does what we know he is capable of, puts a full season together, hits .275-280, 35-40 HR's and 110-120 RBI, then of course extend him. But as Joey said, if he does have a season like that, he might price himself out of what they want to pay him. lol So maybe do a 3-4 year, 63-84 mil now.

  4. Seiya is REALLY good against pitchers from both sides! He may not stand in both batter boxes, but he's every bit as versatile as a switch hitter like happ!

  5. I think you boys need to look at the free agents next year for shortstop and second base… Nico will 100% market himself as a shortstop unless his agent is a moron!
