[Jeff Passan] Right-handed reliever Chris Martin and the Texas Rangers are in agreement on a one-year contract, sources tell ESPN. Martin, 39, posted a 2.98 ERA over 49 appearances with Texas and will return to the staff that had the best ERA in baseball this year.

  1. What is the reason we aren’t trying to get Armstrong back? He was easily our most consistent arm in the pen and had a great year

  2. I mean I definitely think hes a good reliever and can definitely play in late innings…

But no idea if he can stay healthy. Plus I was really sure he was gonna retire. Not the best of moves but I can’t really complain too much.

  3. A little surprised given the number of times he was pulled mid-game this year due to injuries. He was pretty good when healthy, though. Hopefully they can put some reliable arms in the bullpen so they don’t over-tax Martin.

  4. I grew up playing against him in Arlington. He threw hard af at 11 playing against 12 year olds. He also threw at me bc I hit a bomb against him.

Shout out to the Arlington Bombers of Randol mill park 1995-96 fame.

  5. I really expected him to retire. Seemed like he couldn’t get on the mound with getting hurt at the end of the season.

I can’t say I’m confident in his reliability anymore, sadly

  6. I’ll give them a pass on this one. Good when not injured is workable.

If they roll out Luke Jackson next, I’m gonna puke.
