Blues make PERFECT move…

The St. Louis Blues make a perfect move. As Doug Armstrong announced today, they have acquired a young, speedy winger that's going to have huge implications on this lineup moving forward as the St. Louis Blues team progressively gets younger in a really bad start to the season. We're going to break down this move, what it means for the team, and so much more in this episode, and you're not going to want to miss it. So Darius, let's just dive straight into it today where the St. Louis Blues did make a move and a lot of people might overlook on what this means for the team moving forward. Now we get this breaking from the St. Louis Blues. They have claimed Jonathan Bergen off waiverss from the Detroit Red Wings, a young speedy winger Darius that we know coming into the draft had a high regard where we seen him go in the second round. He uses his feet and outstanding puck control to keep it out of reach of opponents looking for the seams to deliver a friendly pass. Now with the timely pass, the friendly passes with his skating. This is a player that's going to be awesome within this organization. And not only do you get younger and a former top of the second round pick coming through with this, but you get him for absolutely free. Darius, what is your thoughts on bringing in this young winger that yes, only has six points in 15 games, but has had two seasons with 20 plus points in his young career? >> Yeah, and you just mentioned it there. And he's a point of game player at the AHL level as well. This guy is ready for the NHL and he spent some time with the Red Wings at the NHL level. And as you can see in some of these highlights, like this is something that I think the Blues could really use in their lineup. Besides the youth, of course, we talked about that. You know, they're making some changes. I mean, some of these goals are unbelievable. He has some flash to his game and he has some speed to his game. We've seen it so far this year with the Blues. At times they look slow. They look lifeless and this is a guy coming in. He's going to be hungry to make an impact with this Blues team. We've already seen in a very small sample size what Robbie Fabry can do and we know what Robbie Fabry is about and at times he's looked like the Blues best player in the last week. So a guy like this coming into the lineup can make a significant impact. He's hungry to get going. He was just put on waiverss. there was no real reason for him to be let go by that team besides the fact that they do have some pretty significant depth and they are, you know, looking like they're going to make the playoffs this year. So, that'll be interesting to keep an eye on. But, uh, I think, you know, Bergen is going to be able to come in here, offer some speed, some skill, and try and get this lifeless Blues team maybe a little bit more jump uh, behind the offense. >> And I think the big thing is, listen, another man's rags is another man's treasure. And we're going to see the Blues hit on this. I'm guaranteeing this is going to be a player that we're going to see injected straight into the middle six of this lineup. As we said, a guy that has won out multiple 20 point seasons, 15 goals and 12 goals in back-to-back years before coming into this year with only two on the season. But one big thing is when looking at the player, you can see the ice time declining season after season as they add more talent to their roster, which pushed them out. But I mean, if you're giving him 12 to 13 minutes, he's going to go out and score you close on 15 goals. And when he gets into a new system, a system that's going to give him a bigger role. As we said, this is the team that's not only going through struggles, they're dealing with injuries and getting players in the lineup and a great captain is going to be big. Now, to make this move, they did put Nick Bad on to make the room to bring him into the roster. He's already been out a week, so no real change, but Darius, this is a roster now. It's going to get very interesting. You added this new face, the $1.8 million cap in still in RFA, so you control his rights after the season. He's not going to just walk in UFA to a new team. But looking at this lineup, Shen was out during the practice skate today. And we do see Otto Stemer who we're going to touch on station right in on that second line with Jake Neighbors, D'vorski, and Steenberg. The kid line's going to look great. But looking at this team, Matt Luff is probably that someone that's going to down. Hugh is another guy. But do you think there's a bigger picture where they look at this move and say, "Hey, this is a player of the future. We have a young 25-year-old joining this team. Let's get him straight into the middle six or top six and see what he can bring." That's exactly what I'm envisioning. And this is a perfect opportunity and the perfect timing for him to be claimed off waiverss by the Blues. And he's going to get an opportunity, I think, maybe in the top six at this point because of the skill and the speed that he brings to the lineup and how many injuries they're dealing with. So, like you mentioned, if he gets a certain amount of minutes, he's going to be able to produce, right, which he really hasn't gotten that opportunity as of late in Detroit. So, coming into the Blues team roster and system, he's probably going to get a better opportunity to go off. And again, that mixed in with the fact that he is hungry to make an impact. And how many guys you have out of the lineup right now, I mean, Holloway's down, Kyru's down, Snugru is down. I mean, those are three top six forwards right there who are out for a significant period of time. So, u you know, you're going to need some help. So, he can come in factor right into the lineup. Steenberg, like you mentioned, is going to be interesting as well. We'll touch on that in a second and what, you know, where he kind of fits into the lineup. But ultimately, I think this is the direction they have to start going. Moves are going to start to be made. I feel like a trade is on the way as well, and they're going to continue to get younger and try to add some more speed, skill, and tenacity. Maybe some more hunger in the lineup, too. So, I'm very excited to see what he does. I would imagine he factor into the top six in their next game. And uh yeah, I think the Blues are just getting uh a little bit faster, a little bit hungrier, a little bit younger, and I think that is a step in the right direction at this point with what everything that's happened so far this season to start. >> And I think the big thing is too, listen, when we start getting these healthy bodies back, it's going to be interesting on what they're going to do with this lineup. You just called up Otto Stenberg. If he shows out like we see him from D'Vorski, how do you just justify sending this kid down? If we see this newly acquired player start to perform, if we even see Fabry continue playing the way it is, they're going to have to make moves. We spokeen about a bunch and I know you're big on this as well. If you're going to perform, if you're going to get into this lineup and they can't send you back, they're going to do something to keep you within this organization. So, there might be something big. Listen, we're doing a full video on that tomorrow because the trade rumors are flying around this team already. But, let's go right into Otto Steenberg. Someone that we've spoke very highly of. everyone that's watched him in the preeason going into anything you look at Otto Stenberg has been great. Now listen, eight points in 21 games. Springfield has sucked. There's no other way to put it this season. He came over to North America last year, but Steenberg getting into this lineup. We seen during the preseason, during training camp, he looked outstanding. He was a player that was one of the last cuts. Darius going back to Springfield. Of course, D'vorski came up before him. That worked out perfectly. Why not make it the second times a term and get this kid big minutes right away. What is your thoughts on Stinberg now that we're finally getting some line combinations with him stationed on the second line with D'Vorski, someone that he has played with before and Jake Neighbors, a great goal scorer that's also physical and able to just take more of that physical load than some of these guys. >> Yeah, and his linemates have been very good so far this season. So, that would be at least pitchered right here. We don't know what's going to happen with some of the the moves they've been making and maybe another move is going to happen at the time we're making this video. But we don't know at this point because it seems like Doug Armstrong's about to get busy. But Stenberg, like you mentioned, you know, heading into this season in training camp, we were like, listen, if they didn't go out and make a bunch of veteran signings in the offseason, he might have made the team. Like, he looked really good in the preseason, like you said, his point production this year hasn't been fantastic because spring hasn't really been that good. There's been a lot of guys getting yo-yoed up and down as well. And when you look at his point production from last year, not bad at all. He got his first taste of North American action and he was a half foot point a game player. So, you know, he definitely has it in him. I think that he can be a very good player, especially at the NHL level. And I did I think that he wasn't called up and a guy like Matt Luff was getting called up and some other guys like Casa Mackey for example because they wanted to allow Stenberg not to stress out about this, continue to play his game, continue down there in the AHL. Well, now you have so many injuries, you can't ignore it anymore, and you can't ignore the poor play of the team. You need to get a guy with skill and speed in there. Uh, and not only those things, like everything that he brings to the table, he's responsible defensively as well from everything we've seen so far, at least in North America. But, uh, all of that to say, I'm very excited to see what he does. I think it's time to call up the young guys. Uh, this is a change in this season for once, which is nice. So, let's see what they continue to do. I'm excited to see what Stamberg does with with this opportunity, especially because so many guys are out due to injury. Uh, and again, I think it just comes down to the hunger thing. There's so many guys that, like you mentioned in our last episode, maybe got comfortable comfortable on this team and they're not, you know, going out and playing to the their ceilings. And I feel like some of these guys being called up like a Stenberg can and they're hungry to make an impact. >> But Fence, what are your thoughts on all this? What are your thoughts on the newly acquired player joining this Blues team? Do you think he's going to make a difference? He's still very young, has shown that he can score in this league and we see in the goals. I want to flash that before we finish cuz these are nasty as well. What is your thoughts on this new look player joining this team? Do you like the youth movement that's coming through? What players are going to be traded? Let us know all your thoughts down in the comments. While you're down there, leave a like, subscribe, share this with your friends. We'll be back another episode tomorrow, so keep your eye out for that. But I've been your host, Mark with my co-host Darius.

  1. They just need healthy bodies without calling up the entire Springfield lineup.. Otto and him joining and adding some new spark hopefully.. Its just brutal right now watching this team..

  2. Dump Army now. Let him concentrate on team Canada while Steener takes over the helm…Army's best days are behind him and Steener needs to be in the seat now, during the selloff and veteran implosion.

  3. The Winnipeg Jets are going to St.Louis and considering this an easy two points that they desperately need and a good thing they’re playing the St. Louis Blues. They’re gonna use Hellebuyck and their heavy forecheck and they’re gonna steal two points away from St. Louis like stealing candy from a baby. That’s exactly how Winnipeg feels about it and they’re probably right based on last years playoffs
