Patrick Mahomes 23/28, 326 YDS, 6 TDs, 0 INT vs PIT 2018 Week 2. Notice how calm he is in the pocket.

  1. This after throwing 4 tuddies and 0 picks in Week 1. What a way to announce yourself to the NFL world as THE QB.

  2. So everyone who keeps using the “he doesn’t trust his OL/WR” how did he gain so much trust with this OL /WR core in his 1st year starting?? That “trust” narrative is bullshit. This scheme was new and nobody really had answers. The league caught up and Reid has not adjusted or done anything to take pressure of 15. Pat has regressed under Andy these past 3 yrs. Gonna be ugly for yrs to come if Andy isn’t removed

  3. Ball out fast. Open receivers. No bobbles or drops. Seam routes and outside routes, a lot going vertical (instead of a million versions of intermediate and deep crossing routes).

  4. Highlights from those years really make me wish Kareem hadn’t lied to the team. Would have had an awesome career all tge way through

  5. His recievers got open a lot because Reid and EB schemed the first read to get open. Trying to run a ton of RPOs where the routes don’t develop until the intermediate range or deeper with zero run threat behind it will allow defenses to sit back and play the pass making read progressions almost impossible because the defense is always going to be putting pressure instantly. Running the ball from shotgun formations don’t help neither since the RB is already starting at a disadvantage. It doesn’t help when the offensive line keeps getting injured, committing untimely penalties, or dropping the ball as well.

  6. He had a good RB and a true #1 receiver vs now no running game threat and 2 number 2 receivers. Draft a true #1 and a decent RB the rest defense and u will see that Pat again.

  7. That was the game that convinced me Mahomes was a star. His week 1 performance was awesome, but it could’ve been just bad defense? Then he shredded the Steelers.

  8. It’s not just that the receivers are open, which they are, they are also helping Patrick out consistently. A lot of these throws are back shoulder, low, etc but the receivers are acting like actual pro receivers and making the catches look routine. Being wide open helps them not hear footsteps and concentrate, but no QB is making every throw perfect, the receiver has to do the work while the ball is in the air. Fire Conner Embree.

  9. Reid and Eric Bieniemy offense then, versus Reid and Nagy offense now. Night and day difference.

  10. Totally beside the point but holy crap kc def was bad then, PIT matching tds with KC thru the 3rd quarter

  11. These highlights seem like a distant dream compared to the offense of the last three years 🙁

  12. Are our skill position players actually just awful or something? Even today nobody thinks our 2018 receiver room was insane but you’d think Jerry rice was our wr6 from this video compared to what we have now

  13. Open wide receivers and this was before he spent several years and two Super Bowls getting the shit beat out of him and watching his guys almost lead the league in drops and penalties every year. Takes a toll on even the best.

  14. Lmao at people responding “the receivers are actually beating people” to highlights that are almost entirely against zone.

WR isn’t the problem currently. The difference is Fisher and Schwartz.

  15. Notice how open the receivers are. I think this is a multi faceted issue including Pat’s happy feet, poor coaching and scheming, and aging/lackluster play from the receivers.

But man, this video brought me back. I’ll never forget where I was for this game, this was truly Pat’s coming out party and the moment I realized how much trouble the rest of the league was in.

Young Pat, young Kareem, prime Sammy, prime Kelce, prime cheetah.. good times. That season ended in heartbreak, but as someone born in the 90’s it was the most fun I had watching football EVER. So electric, so exciting. Every game I was paying for the whole seat, but I only needed the edge with that team man.

  16. Hate to be that guy but to those of you asking why our current recievers aren’t getting open like these guys. In 2019 we basically hade the same group of recievers in this video and defenses had figured out our recievers couldn’t get open against man coverage(look at the 2019 colts game).

The 2019 offense faced the same defenses and issues as 2025. The reason why the 2019 team won a sb and 2025 didn’t make the playoffs is because in 2025 the chiefs offensive line was a carousel and the dline wasn’t very good which led to inconsistent results on defense.

Tldr. The chiefs recievers have always had issues against man coverage, it’s not new. It just looks much worse because the trenches on th both sides of the ball weren’t as good.
