Capitals vs. Wild | NHL Highlights | December 16, 2025

Last year he and Thompson played every other
game just about all season. Lingard played 39. This year he's been more of a backup. This
just his 11th start of the season. Wild come into this game fifth in the league in terms
of goals against per night at 2.61. Caps also elite defensively. They allow even fewer. 2.47.
And Ovetkin rides face first into the end glass. Well, favorite does a great job taking
that hit cuz that is scary when you've got eight barreling down on you. The guy can
shoot a puck, but he can finish a check, too. You're off from behind the net
comes free to Terasco. A shot. He scores. Makes shift second line for the Wild. Just
gets to work behind the net. Hughes leaves it in space for his partner. favor. Eurovv
swinging through the trapezoid. He's looking for Trenion. Doesn't get him, but Washington is
kind of focused on that. They over collapse and Terasenko from the high slot gets one past
that first three up high centers. Baldi's redirect goes well wide. Favor to Hughes.
Hughes rips it back to favor. A shot knocked down with a glove by Lindren. Knocked down
at center and Wilson takes a hit from Jones. Cover. Protest threw it toward the
net. Gustoson sweeps it aside and the Caps efficiently out of their
zone once more. Protest with it. Caps come into this one having lost three of their
last four. That follows a six-game win streak. Van Reamdikeke plays it across. Sandine at the
line. Long shot and a pad saved by Gustoson. Kind of picking up where they left off from the
October game. 45 on Gustoson in that game. Not passing up a shot. Also not passing up a hit.
Strobe shot from the slot. Knocked aside by Gustoson. A long wrist shot. That one's kicked
out by Gustoson. And Hughes sends it ahead for Minnesota. Hartman hits the capital line. Drops
it back to Favor. Across for Hughes. Hughes in. A shot and a save by Lindren. Ryan Hartman. Speaking
of guys who's elevated. Hartman's last two games. Two of his best of the year. Hov Kubel comes in.
His shot knocked down by Lingren. Caps maintain the zone. La Pierre to the point, but it hops out
the neutral ice. Frank carries in, walks down the slot, a backhander, and a save by Gustoson. And
that was the exact angle the referee had. It didn't, it looked a little more benign from that
angle. Loose puck out front. Ovkin bats one out of the air and Gustoson hangs on for Minnesota. Just
two on the season for Ovatkin this year though. Sends it to the circle. Bollier 10 left of the
man advantage. Bollier shot saved Gustoson. Rebound was loose for a moment and then cleared
by Stern. Couple of rebounds on this power play for Washington. But it good thing for the
Wild is those those rebounds were elevated. They're floating in the air and Wash can't
get to him. And by the time they hit the ice, the Wild have done a good job getting under
the sticks of Washington to negate a chance. Prots it across. Wilder back at full
strength. Sort of shot was deflected away. Now sort of from the line and it's
deflected into Gustoson who hangs on. Roy moves it ahead for the Caps. Bilier plays it
in. Spurgeon has it now for Minnesota. Got it out to Felo at center ice. Felo look for the return
feed from O Kubel. Caps have numbers at center. Stro had his pass broken up by O Kubel. Hartman
now ahead to Felo. Felo on the long breakaway looking for his first of the year. Saved by
Lindren. You know again sometimes it gets in your head. You look up, you settle this puck
and he's a right catcher. Don't forget that. So Marcus Felo usually lefty coming down. That's
low blocker he goes. But there with the free hand, no sticking it. He tries to go to the same spot
that low blocker area. the fact that the Wilder now being talked about as a a true contender. I
mean, his game's been elevated. We've seen him elevate his game. Here's a breakaway the other
way. Faravari in for Washington and a save by Gustoson. Got to go to the outside to protect it.
And Farvari with a good stick pokes it off. But the difference in the breakaways is Farvari
has to chase that down and barely catches up with it by the time he gets Faber with speed
into the Washington zone to Jones. He fires. Tip by Favor. Save by Lindren. Still no whistle.
The puck is loose. You're deflects to the corner. Well, break this one out clean and it ends up on
the left side of your screen here with Jones and brings us to the net. Tipped by Favor who's
been active in this game offensively. Baldi to Capri. Terasenko fires. That was blocked. He
got it right back. Terasenko to the line. Hughes. Capricov hammers one off the post. You get a guy
like Quinn Hughes on your power play and it'd be easy to overpass the puck, but Terasenko got it
to Hughes to hold the zone. Hughes pass got caught in the skates there. Teraso got it back now to
Capri off. He fires. It's tipped wide off of Eric. Burov wins this draw cleanly back to Faber. Faber a long shot save. Lingren long
Sanders. You know, he's amazing. Here he goes off the post. Quinn
Hughes comes down the left side, shoots a puck through a screen
in front. Erikson actavari threw it down low. Carlson for Ovetkin. And that
deflection knocked away by Gustoson. And now he'll start out. Long pass at center deflected comes
on the stick of Pentlick. He's in but fires high and wide. Understanding the timing and the
the room through the middle of the ice. He snaps it forward and then Sturm just has to put
that on a T for Pitlick coming through again. It's just the timing. One touch bump. Boom.
Right to the middle. Pitlick sprung. Now he's favor sends it out through neutral ice. Trenion
able to bump Van Reevesike off the puck and Terasenko came up with a great chance where they'd
get some secondary scoring with Capri off Ericson and Bully on the top line but the Wildline has
been Treny and Terasenko and Yurov and combination of speed and physicality there from Trenan
gets under Ben Ree in 10 minutes of this game but haven't seen a lot as of late but now chasing
the puck a little bit they're getting back to it. Mcichael throws it across. Dows it
alone and a save by Gustoson. Oh, they got that. Nearly missed. Then Dow trying
to go back where Mcichel did earlier. Underrated play right there. Terasenko to Baldi. Back
to Hughes. Baldi in drive. That went wide. Terasenko up high. Hughes. A long shot.
Knocked down in front. Rebound. He scores. Carell Capriov with a franchise record 70 power
play goals and it's a two0 Minnesota lead. There's still a willingness to shoot the puck with his
power play group. It's Quinn Hughes collecting a puck off of a one-time from Baldi and he just
sees a lane delivers it quick. Garrett Sak with the screen. He's going to end up getting
an assist on this cuz it hits off his back. And then Capri off just going downhill.
Backhand chip over the glove of Lingren. Boy, we asked Hines this morning about the power play and who's going to benefit
the most from having Quinn Hughes. Some of that has to do with
them wearing groups down, but uh that hasn't really been a factor
in tonight's game. Baldi moves in a shot and a blocker saved by Lindred this injury
storm. They score right off the draw. Eurog wins the face off. Terraenko has his second
of the night and Minnesota leads it 30-0. This line continues to be good with
an ozone draw and Euro just gets low strongly. This puck just bounces back
to Terasenko who's posted up again. The kind of things you can do with Quinn
Hughes. He's left on that faceoff circle almost three AC across this win goes right to
Terasenko quick. Terasenko grabs it at center. Mcichel played it across. That shot goes wide
and Terasco scoops it up for Minnesota. Terra Sinko drags to the backand centers. Eurovv
scores. He really did take offense to all the chatter about Capri offers versus
Oesk. And this line has been dynamite. And how about this move from Terasenko
cutting to the middle between the legs and then just leaving it soft in space
for Eurovv to come in and dunk on Charlie Lingren. Three points for Eurovv goal,
two assists, three points for Terraenko. This line that Hines has had to put together
because of injury has shown chemistry and been terrific. Too much power from the Wild skating
and they close that off at the blue line. Kirstad plays it ahead. Baldi hustling. He has Felino driving the net. Baldi cuts
to the middle. A shot. He scores. An American gets into the mix tonight on Russian
night in St. Paul. Watch 17 on this one. He's not going to get an assist, but he deserves one.
He puts the head down. He pushes Carlson the defense back and this is opens up ice for
Bully to be able to cut to the middle and then that's the that's the high hockey IQ for
Baldi like knowing goalenders didn't try to raise that against the grain. No goalies
moving. Philip Gustiffson will earn his third shut out of the year. Minnesota will
earn their seventh which leaves the league and is just one short of a franchise
record. The Wild have won five in a row.

  1. Caps are really pissing me off now!! I'm a die-hard Washington Capitals fan, but I gotta admit, that was the most maladroit performance I've ever seen!!! We are better than this. Our defeat to Weinerpeg, We played like a bunch of beer leaguers!!!

  3. Been a long tough time being a Minnesota Sports Fan. How exciting of a time it is! Vikings still underperforming but I love my Wolves and now I'm even excited to watch Hockey again.

  4. Many longtime Minnesota hockey fans still despise Norm Green for stealing our North Stars. Minnesota IS the State of Hockey, and should NEVER have been without an NHL team.
