NHL HIghlights | Capitals vs. Wild – December 16, 2025
Last year he and Thompson played every other game just about all season. Lingard played 39. This year he's been more of a backup. This just his 11th start of the season. Wild come into this game fifth in the league in terms of goals against per night at 2.61. Caps also elite defensively. They allow even fewer. 2.47. And Ovetkin rides him face first into the end glass. Well, Favor does a great job taking that hit cuz that is scary when you've got eight barreling down on you. The guy can shoot a puck, but he can finish a check, too. Eurovv from behind the net comes free to Terasenko. A shot. He scores. Shift second line for the Wild. Just gets to work behind the net. Hughes leaves it in space for his partner Favor. Gurov swinging through the trapezoid. He's looking for Trenion doesn't get him, but Washington is kind of focused on that. They over collapse and Terasenko from the high slot gets three. >> Capriov up high centers. Baldi's redirect goes well wide. Favor to Hughes. Hughes rips it back to favor. A shot knocked down with a glove by Lindren. Knocked down at center and Wilson takes a hit from Jones. >> Kind of picking up where they left off from the October game. 45 on Gustoson in that game. >> Not passing up a shot. Also not passing up a hit. >> Strobe shot from the slot. Knocked aside by Gustoson. A long wrist shot. That one's kicked out by Gustoson. And Hughes sends it ahead for Minnesota. Hartman hits the capital line, drops it back to Favor across for Hughes. HUGHES IN A SHOT AND A SAVE BY LINDREN. Caps maintain the zone. Lapierre to the point, but it hops out the neutral ice. Frank carries in, walks down the slot, a backhander, AND A SAVE BY GUSTOSON. >> And that was the exact angle the referee had. It didn't, it looked a little more benign from that angle. Loose puck out front. Ovatkin bats one out of the air and Gustoson hangs on for Minnesota. Just two on the season for Ovatkin this year though. He caps have numbers at center. Stro had his pass broken up by O Cubell. Hartman now ahead to Felo. Felo on the low BREAKAWAY LOOKING FOR HIS FIRST OF THE YEAR. SAVED BY LINDREN. You know again sometimes it gets in your head. You look up, you settle this puck and he's a right catcher. Don't forget that. So Marcus Felino usually lefty coming down that's low blocker he goes but there with the free hand no sticking it he tries to go to the same spot that low blocker area the fact that the Wild are now being talked about as a a true contender and his game's been elevated. >> We've seen him elevate his game. Here's a breakaway the other way. FARAVARI IN FOR WASHINGTON AND A SAVE BY GUSTOSON. >> Go to the outside to protect it and Farvari with a good stick. Faber with speed into the Washington zone to Jones. He fires. Tipped by Favor. Saved by Lindren. Still no whistle. The puck is loose. Eurovv deflects to the corner. Well, break this one out clean and it ends up on the left side of your screen here with Jones and brings us to the net. Tipped by Favor who's been active in this game offensively. >> Baldi to Capri off. Terasenko fires. That was blocked. He got it right back. Terasenko to the line. Hughes. >> Capricov hammers one off the post. You get a guy like Quinn Hughes on your power play and it'd be easy to overpass the puck, but maybe some added inspiration from that group and the the battle for the best Russian on the ice here tonight. You know, he's amazing. Here he goes off the post. >> Quinn Hughes comes down the left side. Shoots a puck through a screen in front. Erikson act. And now he'll start out. Long pass at center deflected. Comes on the STICK OF PENTLICK. HE'S IN BUT FIRES HIGH AND WIDE. >> Understanding the timing and the the room through the middle of the ice. He snaps it forward and then Sterm just has to put that on a T for Pitlick coming through again. It's just the timing. One touch bump. Boom. Right to the middle. Pitlick sprung. Now >> Favor sends it out through neutral ice. Trenion >> able to bump Van Reevesike off the puck and Terosenko came up with a great chance >> where they'd get some secondary scoring with Capri off Ericson and Baldi on the top line but the Wild's best line has been Treny and Terasenko and Yurov and combination of speed and physicality there from Trenan gets under Ben Ree in 10 minutes of this game but haven't seen a lot as of late but now chasing the puck a little bit getting back to Mcichael throws it across. DOWS IT ALONE AND A SAVE BY GUSTOSON. >> They got that. Nearly missed. Then Dow trying to go back where Mcichel did earlier. Underrated play right there. Terasenko to Baldi. Back to Hughes. Baldi in drive. That went wide. Terasenko up high. Hughes. A long shot. KNOCKED DOWN IN FRONT. REBOUND. THEY SCORE. Carell Caprio with a franchise record 70 power play goals and it's a two0 Minnesota lead. There's still a willingness to shoot the puck with this power play group. It's Quinn Hughes collecting a puck off of a one-time from Baldi and he just sees a lane delivers it quick. Garrick with the screen. He's going to end up getting an assist on this cuz it hits off his back and then Capri off just going downhill backhand chip over the glove of Lingren. Boy, we asked Hines this morning about the power play and who's going to benefit the most from having Quinn Hughes gain 35 and ride it until 82. Terasenko tried to go to Ericson. Baldi with it down low. Terasenko. A shot saved by Lindren. >> Wow, what a play. It it helps you get the win. But Capri off with some speed wide backhand pass to a streaking Terraenko. >> Boy, just movement. >> Yeah, Wash is going to have to find a way to solve Gustoson in the strong defense of the Wild. He figured this heavy for check the big bodies again at times I think the physicality's been there for them but they've abandoned that too at times and you think that third period success some of that has to do with them wearing groups down but uh that hasn't really been a factor in tonight's game moves in a shot and a blocker saved by Lingren >> weather this injury storm >> they score right OFF THE DRAWER EUROVV WINS THE FACEOFF. Terasenko has his second of the night and Minnesota leads it 3-0. This line continues to be good with an ozone draw and Euro just gets low strong and this puck just bounces back to Terasenko who's Michael played it across. That shot goes wide and Terasco scoops it up for Minnesota. Terrain drags to the backand centers. HERO scores really did take offense to all the chatter about Capri off verses and this line has been dynamite. And how about this move from Terasenko cutting to the middle between the legs and then just leaving it soft in space for Eurovv to come in and dunk on Charlie Lingren. Three points for Eurovv. Goal, two assists, three points for Terasenko. This line that Hines has had to put together because of injury has shown chemistry and been terrific. But too much power from the Wild skating and they close that off at the blue line. Kirstad plays it ahead. Baldi hustling. He has Felino driving the net. Baldi cuts to THE MIDDLE. A SHOT. HE SCORES. An American gets into the mix tonight on a Russian night in St. Paul. >> Watch 17 on this one. He's not going to get an assist, but he deserves one. He puts the head down. and he pushes Carlson the defense back and this is opens up ice for Baldi to be able to cut to the middle and then that's the that's the high hockey IQ for Baldi like knowing goalenders didn't try to raise that against the grain no goalies moving Philip Gustoson will earn his third shut out of the year Minnesota will earn their seventh which leaves the league and it's just one short of a franchise record have won Five in a row.
Vladimir Tarasenko opened the scoring early in the first, and goaltender Filip Gustavsson stopped all 25 shots faced for the shutout, leading the Minnesota Wild to the 5-0 win over the New York Rangers.

Wild are looking like absolute WAHGONS
Yurov trenin tarasenko gah damn wtf is that line it works but sheeshh good coaching indeed
🤦
Bruh if Wild finish the season 3rd overall in the league and start the playoffs on the road…
Thank you minnesota for beating this "team".
People were wondering what a team Russia would look like at the 4 nations or Olympics:
Русская дикая дикая дивизия беспощадно затоптала овечью ватагу. Ну, а Володька сегодня был просто зверь 👹
It's insane that the addition of just Hughes changes the narrative around the Wild. They were already solid but now they are going to be a serious cup contender once they figure out how to use Hughes' skills.
I never ever ever thought I would cheer for the Wild – let alone watch highlights. I guess I just really like Hughes. Go Canucks.
Who kidnapped all the Caps players and replaced them with these clowns?
Canucks fan here. I hope everyone in Minnesota realizes how much of a steal getting Quinn Hughes was for your club. I keep hearing people whin about what you gave up to get him. What you gave up is nothing compared to Hughes talent and how he elevates a team. Your breakout is completely different now you have Quinn. 11 goals by the team in two games is no coincidence . Hugey is a game changer. While I think the trade was good for both teams at this point in time, please just know how much of a gem Billy Guerin delivered to you. Treat my captain well. Ill be rooting for the Wilds success because Hugey deserves a cup.
Damn the Wild are unbelievable a well oiled Machine, Great game Gus🏒💯
Tarasenko for Detroit – greatest disappointment since Jimmy Carson.
Tarasenko traded to the Wild – Ok, i think i will start playing now
Well played Wild!
Tarasenko has taken a lot of criticism from Wild fans. Glad he had a night!
Grazy games 🔥👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It's getting wilder in Minnesota! You can definitely say they've never been so well-staffed.
4 lines hits different
Tarasenko was on fire. He got inspired by Hughes joinung the team.
They now Look good, but there are two big obstacles ahead in play offs to climb over.
Vaya paliza chaval..
