‘BAD LOOK on the Knicks!’ 😧 Perk’s thoughts on NY not hanging an NBA Cup banner at MSG | NBA Today

The Knicks hunt themselves in Emirates NBA Cup, taking out San Antonio 124 to 113. >> Excuse me, I just had a beer. >> My stomach’s been going crazy the last couple days. So, um, I’m on my that awa today. >> Timmy Timmy Green, baby. So after that gastrointestinal update, now to a developing story coming off the Knicks big win in Las Vegas. Our Sham Shiranya is here. And Shams, the Knicks, they hope took home a championship here, but what are their plans to celebrate this in Madison Square Garden? >> Malikica, the Knicks will become the first team in the in three years of the NBA Cup’s existence not to raise a championship banner. They have decided against raising a championship banner at Madison Square Garden. The Lakers and Bucks did so the last two years, but this is a clear message from the Knicks that they have bigger goals. Those goals being winning an NBA championship. That’s why they fired Tom Thibido in the offseason. Wanted to compete only for a championship. It’s championship or bus in New York right now. But after the Lakers and Bucks did the last two years, now the Knicks buck that trend, it is interesting to see will this set somewhat of a precedent moving forward with teams now deciding whether they’re going to raise the championship banner for the NBA Cup or not. >> You’re gonna look >> and who are the Knicks? >> I mean, the last time they hung a banner, Moby Dick was a goldfish. And you have the audacity the audacity to reject something like this don’t mean anything. And this is a bad look. This is a bad look for the league and it’s a bad look on the Knicks because we all have to get on the same page. The NC tournament has been a success. I believe Adam Silva is the best commissioner in sports. I stand on that. And so when you think about what you didn’t done, you think about the Lakers, the Bucks embracing that moment, hanging a banner than the Knicks to come in and deny and say they’re not going to hang a banner. I get it. You want to win a championship. Everybody want to win a championship. But damn it, you got to reach the smaller goals to get to the bigger goal. This is a smaller step. Embrace it. Damn it. And go hang the damn banner. Who are them? Who are they to be turning something down? >> So, the Lakers hung a banner. The Bucks hung a banner. And now the New York Knicks are not going to hang this banner. You’re not the only one, Perk, that that has a an issue with this. Brian, I’m curious how you feel about this. >> Yeah, you know, I think Jeannie Bus um really set an important standard when the Lakers were the first winner of it. The Lakers have 17 banners. They don’t have to hang anything. They’ve got statues all outside Crypto.com Arena for their great players. They set the standard that winning this should mean something. And by the way, it’s not just for now. This is going to be around for a long time into the future, probably decades into the future. And there’s going to come a time when you’re going to want to have had the cup banners up there and to be on the right side of history. And it’s not unusual, I guess, because Jim Dolan, the the Knicks owner, has routinely gone against the grain of the other owners in the league. But I suspect he would be against the grain here. I think any of the other 29 teams that would have won last night would hang that banner. Even if it feels awkward and new, it’s about embracing something and celebrating something, especially for a team that’s had very little to celebrate. >> So, you know what’s interesting? I kind of felt differently >> when I heard the news. I’m not going to lie. I’m going to be honest here. I was like, I kind of respect it. This is very New York. They’re going to win it the hard way. They feel like they have an opportunity to come out of the East. They have the second best offense in the NBA. They have a team that showed up when it mattered most in this preliminary step. I do think they should have hung the banner because I think people understand what that banner is. It’s not the end all be all. But I can sort of understand that New York likes to be different. They stand 10 toes down on what they want. So, I wasn’t mad at it. I respected it because they are so fully driven on getting a championship. But y’all know what’s on the other side there? >> Yeah. OKC. What’s over there? The Denver Nuggets. LIKE, YOU MIGHT WANT TO CELEBRATE NOW. YOU NEVER KNOW. >> THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH a little bit of joy. There’s nothing wrong with a little bit of joy right now. >> I’m sure they’re going to celebrate on Friday, but to point, they want to go win a championship. They’re all in on that. >> Yeah, that winning a championship is the important thing here for the New York Knicks. Maybe they hang a banner like across the arena from the rest of it. All right, that’s the losing side of this. I still think the be I mean, the future is so bright here. Let’s take a look at today’s thread post. quote, “My biggest takeaway from the Emirates NBA Cup is that San Antonio, they have what it takes to be a playoff contender. They didn’t win tonight, but their chemistry, their hunger, their hustle, they were on full display. Their youth showed down the stretch, but this game will be a teachable moment.” Chen, what say you? >> Yeah, totally agree. The kid, was it I think that’s what it was. Yeah. No, I I actually am very thoroughly impressed with San Antonio when WBY is at full strength being able to play a full game. I feel like that outcome could have looked very different. And this is a squad that competed toe-to-toe like we said in the semi-finals with the Thunder and they were fearless. So overall, I like the direction that the Spurs are heading. >> I I think this this throughout the semifinals in the championship, it made me a believer that the Spurs are legit title contenders. >> They’re legit. They’re legit title contenders. The perimeter play that they have, we know who Victor is. Like I’m I’m not going to sit up here and go crazy over those spot minutes that he played last night and and downplay that he didn’t have the fourth quarter that we wanted him to have. That is hard for a player to do. Come in in those minutes and going through what he was going through. That damn Stefon Castle. When you talk about two-way players, when you talk about that old soul and Dylan Harper, this team is for real and they’re committed, huh? >> Really quick. They took down the Thunder once. You think they can do that four times? >> I’m just saying. No, I don’t believe no one can take down the Thunder. But I will say this. I’m not going to just say if they match up with the Houston is the Houston Rockets. Are the Houston Rockets legit title contenders? >> Yes. >> Okay. If they are, then I believe the San the way that the question mark in her voice. Yes. I do think that what the San Antonio Spurs showed is that this is a nucleus and a core may be part of that second tier. >> Thunder Nuggets. >> If you all want to get in on this, what Perk is saying about them being title contenders, don’t forget to join the conversation. You can go on threads. You can scan that QR code. Jump in on that conversation. >> Well, by winning the cup, every Knicks player is going to take home over $530,000. Every member of the San Antonio Spurs is a consolation prize gets 212 racks. I think you can buy a couple of llamas if you’re Kelton Johnson with that runnerup bonus there. But from start to finish, the NBA Cup, it gave us no shortage of mustsea moments, but we have narrowed it down, don’t you worry, to our very best. Our NBA Cup top of the top. First, we’re going to start with some drives and dunks. Aaron Gordon. Man, we need him back healthy. Crosses up. Buddy heels. >> Gordon. >> And then >> And that was in slow motion. >> It went >> walk him like a dog. >> YIKES. >> And then Keonte George, he’s giving us some highlights this year. Goes baseline. >> Turning up this year >> for the flush. >> He’s going to get some most improved votes. >> I could see that. How about LeBron turning back the clock here in play. >> I like that. >> That was insane. That was some body went crazy. >> And that’s when you thought that the Lakers were going to get back in this in San Antonio. Still that that face that base right there. You don’t back down. All right. Top bounce. James Harden drives. Jackson Hayes denies. >> Why do we have to do this to the Clippers today? >> Old school resist. >> Only good Clippers highlights from now on. Derek Queen finds Trey Murphy. >> They need it. They need it for like two years straight >> for the oop. >> Slay Queen. >> Slay Queen. Trey man poster. >> Oh posters in his NBA career. >> Oh, >> you know what? Charlotte, they got some high flyers. They really They are a lot of fun. When they when they uh when they are good, it’s going to be fun for the league. All right, Top Vision. How about this dime from CAT last night? We called it y at the top of the show. >> Scoop shovel crosscourt. >> That was wicked month. >> Doesn’t make sense. And then Wimi, of course, we got to get him off the glass to himself at 7 foot five. It’s unfair. >> Disrespectful. That’s what it is. >> She goes, >> “It’s disrespectful.” >> And then how about Luca? We need some Luca magic if we’re talking about passes here. >> Finds Braun here. The little no look. >> I’m finessing. >> That’s nice. >> It was. >> And adding insult to injury. That was against Dallas here. All right. So, the NBA Cup, it has come and gone. Now, we have two games on the slate tonight. You got the Cavs visiting the Bulls. The Cavaliers, they need to get a win tonight. >> What’s wrong with you? Let’s start with the Grizzlies playing at the Wolves. So, your perk is Anthony Edwards. He was originally listed as questionable tonight with a foot injury. The Timberwolves host the Grizzlies. Minnesota won its last two games without him. Head coach Chris Finch is saying that this is a gametogame situation, so a return remains possible here. But Shams, what are you hearing on Anthony Edwards? >> He could return tonight. He could return Friday against Oklahoma City, Sunday as well, potentially against Milwaukee. But he could return. He’s getting closer and closer. He had what was described to me as an infection in his pinky, right pinky toe. Uh he underwent MRI to see exactly what the severity was. If there was anything more than that, there wasn’t. No structural damage. He’s been taking some medication to deal with the infection, but he’s getting over that. He’s nearing his return. He’ll be in the lineup any day now. >> Okay. So, Anthony Edwards working his way back from that foot issue. The other game tonight has the Bulls hosting the Cavaliers. And Brian, I think that this is a good time for us to check in with Cavs corner here because they’re in need of a win. >> Yeah, they’ve really been struggling with health and with their offense. Two things that didn’t bother them all last year. And you know, they were the number one three-point shooting team in the league last year, Malikica. They’re 28th this year, largely because of injuries to their three-point shooting. They were hoping to get Sam Merrill back from a hand injury tonight, but he is out against the Bulls. And you know, they are 30th in three-point shooting over the last 10 games. Evan Mowley dealing with a calf issue. Won’t play tonight and likely will not be back until next month. The Cavs are 6-0 against teams in the Central Division tonight and 1 and0 against the Bulls. It’s the beginning of a home and home. Uh there the Eastern Conference is tightly packed, but it’s getting late a little early with the way the Cavs have been playing in recent weeks. >> Sound like a bunch of excuses to me. They have been in this short season the biggest disappointment in the NBA. with a 50 would like nobody I didn’t know y’all had expectations for the Clippers. I told y’all since day one I didn’t trust nothing about them oldheads over there. But far as the C coming off of what they were saying this summer how disappointing they were to be sitting here at 15 and 12. >> Yeah. >> 15 and 12 >> in a weak Eastern Conference. There’s no way the the Boston Celtics should have a better record than the Cleveland. >> I think the Clippers are six and 20. But does the NBA Cup maybe turn up Chana some of those you you see the New York Knicks and after last night the conversation is all right there was something on the line. It wasn’t a championship but the Knicks a title hopeful in the Eastern Conference went out and got it. Does that turn the volume up here for the Cavaliers? >> I think so. I mean the sad thing is that the way that they ended the last quarter of the season, people thought they were probably one of the favors, you know, favorites to come out of the East and now they’re like complete opposite of that. So I I do agree with that. But overall, when I’m thinking about the NBA Cup, y’all, I do love the system. I like the competition. I think it’s a good stepping stone, and I do believe they should have the banner up. So, >> I will say this on the Cavaliers, they’re among a few teams that everyone around the league is keeping their eye on as we get closer and closer to February. >> Wendy said it, they they’re the only team that’s what, Wendy? In the second April, the only team in the league. >> But also, health is wealth. They got to get healthy and then we’ll be able to see what >> Well, now that the NBA Cup is in the rear view, we turn the page to Christmas. We turn the page to tonight’s game. Everyone go enjoy. We’ll be right back with you. Same place, same time tomorrow. >> You, too. It’s the holidays. NFL Live is coming up next.

  1. Why the h*ll would they hang a banner if it’s not a championship banner
In New York, we don’t do mediocrity
They might do it when they’re hanging in Carmelo Anthony’s jersey …. But until then we don’t do mediocrity.

  2. You might want to celebrate now?? 🤔 look this win though I as a fan enjoyed does not erase the 50 yr drought I want a TITLE not a cup! !I enjoyed last night but I want to be the best after 82 and winning 16 out of 27!! Hanging banner in December is not what I want as a fan!!

  3. 👏👏👏👏 I love this, that banner is a joke. Focus on the bigger picture. Symbolically end that tournament bs. Expose how teams really feel about it. FCK The Lakers nobody cares about them outside of mainstream media

  4. It’s all about Josh grabbing ah on national television.. “bad look” Knick’s just won something and he out here being weird ..
the knicks want to forget it now
