Jaelan Phillips & More On Preparing for the Washington Commanders

Forgive me if I don’t know. Have you had a game where you could quench the division >> in your career? >> I mean, no, I have not at all. Well, actually, actually, that’s not true. In 2023, I believe there was a point I don’t think I was playing anymore because of uh the knee, but there was a point if if we had won one game, then we would have clinched, but we lost that and then ended up wild card and played the Chiefs, all that, the whole story. So, this is the second opportunity. We’re going to make it good this time. So, so I mean up here it’s kind of like okay old hat like you know they clinch the division a lot of times history. What is it like for you? >> Oh I’m sorry. See what you did Pat? Sorry. >> What was it like for you this week when you’re going down there with a chance to clinch the division? >> It’s awesome. Uh, you know, it’s it’s definitely exciting uh for me like you said is I’ve never been a division winner before and you know even kind of seeing the the history of this I didn’t realize how competitive the NFC East is just in the sense that there’s I think not very wasn’t the last time there was backto-back uh conference 21 years. >> Yeah, exactly. So, I mean I think it’s it’s you know pretty rare in a a talented conference like this. So, uh it’s very something it’s it’s something that’s exciting to be a part of and I’m just glad that you know I get to be a part of it. So, it’ll be fun. How have you seen Vic Fangio put all of these pieces together with Kobe Dean coming back your addition and then Brandon Graham playing as a defensive tackle. >> Yeah. Um you know I think it’s a credit to obviously the guys that we have and then Vic for you know knowing knowing uh who and and and how they can play the positions and stuff. So um yeah I mean I think it’s it’s been great and you know I think the longer we’re playing together the more comfortable we get with each other’s playing styles and stuff like that. So you know getting Jaylen back would be amazing. Um but I think we’re rolling right now. Aside from winning the division, just how important is it to be playing good football at this time of the year as you guys go down the stretch? >> Yeah, I mean that’s probably the most important thing uh ultimately. You know, obviously you got to take care or take care of business during the season, but uh you know, this is the time that really matters. You know, when the playoffs come around and stuff like that, you know, pretty much, you know, when it when it’s the playoffs, it’s like whichever team is playing better in that moment is going to is going to win because everybody’s talented. Um, so I think being able to catch our stride going into the playoffs, make the corrections that we need to make is definitely going to, you know, suit us long term. >> Is there any particular way when you’re preparing a different way that you’re playing a team that has nothing to do anything for that process, you know, anything. >> Yeah. You know, I think there’s some situational um awareness when it comes to whether it’s certain red zone tendencies or fourth down or things like that to where they’d probably be more likely to go for it or to be more aggressive in those instances. But ultimately the game plan is the same is just for us to uh you know take care of business up front uh do what we need to do um you know and then rush the passer let the guys in the back end to eat do their thing. So yeah. >> What kind of threat does Marcus are able to pose not only to throw on the ball but his ability to get >> Yeah. Yeah, I mean he’s a great athlete. Um, very fast, elusive. So, I mean, that’s definitely one thing. Rush discipline and being able to contain him. Um, and then, yeah, they have a good running game. Really solid team overall. So, it’s going to it’s going to be a fun one. >> How much more comfortable are you this year? >> Um, I would say very comfortable, but not too comfortable. You know, it’s always waiting to improve. Uh, but I definitely love the place that I’m in. you know, I’m learning more under Clint Hurst and Vic Fangio and just understanding the game a little bit more and my body is feeling the right way and just keep climbing. You know, it’s Rome was a building in the day. Strong believer in that, but you know, finally now it’s coming to fruition, but we always have room to improve and that’s everybody. >> And you said going into this season that you needed to be in better shape because they wanted you to play more and and and more snaps and you’ve done that this year. Um, how wild is it now this late in the season? I mean, how good do you feel at this point? I >> feel great. Um, but you know, this is what we’ve been working for. This is what we’ve been working for. It’s not a surprise to anybody in the building. Um, you know, it’s just when my calling is higher, you know, I have to answer that call. And going into this year, I knew that it was going to be a time for me to play more snaps and, you know, be a more dominant presence on the field. But, uh, you know, it’s just comes with time. It comes with time. Hate that it happened this late, but you know, I’m just glad that it happening now and it’s clicking now. And it’s staying. It’s not fluctuating. It’s not up and down. It’s consistent. And you know, I just wanted to be consistent. My word of the year is being impact and being consistent. So, I feel like I’m getting there. >> And we also see maybe a little bit of of growth with leadership. Are are you kind of taking that extra step and and you’re obviously got the vibes. You bring the energy and the vibes, but also that leadership part of this. >> Yeah. And um you know, I was talking with, you know, the leadership group. We have a leadership group and, you know, I was telling them that you don’t have to have a seat on your chest to be a captain. And um you know when you come in here, you have the great energy, you play like it, and you be consistent every single day, you keep the vibes right, um that’s just all it takes. That’s all it takes. And you know, whether that has a seat on your chest or not, it doesn’t matter. Leadership comes from all forms. If that’s making somebody smile every day, that’s a form of leadership. And you know, I’m just grateful to be in this position. And you know, if the guys follow me, follow me, send me, um I’m here. >> And uh a little bit of uh Pro Bowl talk out there. What would it mean to you uh to be involved in that discussion but also get the Pro Bowl? >> Um that’d be cool. You know, that’s not my first thing. You know, my first thing is always whatever the team wants me to be, but um I think that’s pretty cool. Great opportunity, but you know, for right now, I can only worry about what’s going on today and today is just doing practice. So, get ready for practice. >> What would it mean to you to clinch this division with with how competitive this division has been, not having a repeat winner in 20 years to be able to clinch the division? >> Be super cool. be super cool, but you know, we can only do that if we go out there and execute. You know, Washington’s going to give us our best games because we’re in the division. Uh we always get the division’s best and um you know, we have to go out there and do our jobs. When we go out there and do our jobs and execute, we put our hats and shirts on, but um for right now, we just have to go out there and do it. >> Just talking to a Dory and he said in college they employed a a no loss November uh for this time of year and he says in the pros like no loss December. Just emphasizing the importance of playing your best ball during the stretch. How important is it to kind of for you guys to catch your stride as you hit the stretch run of this regular season? >> Definitely. Um I feel like, you know, that’s a very good concept. You don’t want to be losing going into the playoffs. You want to make sure that you hit your your stride, but uh you want to be playing your best at the end of the year. So, you know, anything, that accent came out. Uh anytime you go out there and uh play the game, you want to make sure that you execute at a high level. And uh as the year goes along and the closer it gets to the playoffs and the end of the season, you want to be playing your best ball. on um we had to go out there, we have to execute. You know, we kind of had to stumble a couple times this year, but I feel like with the guys that we have and the way that we work, um going out there and playing our best ball is achievable. So, we have to go out there, we have to make sure that we kind of get these little tweaks, make sure everything’s right, but um we want to do it for the home stretch and we know what we’re capable of. We just got to go out there and do it. >> Ladies first. >> Oh, thank you. taking this from my um there’s a clip in I don’t doubt you watch it but in her not um I put her talking to you guys about the Raiders and how you know they still get up for these big match ups. What’s the messaging going into this game against the Commanders having kind of two opponents that you guys are I’m sure you’re confident in your ability to compare with theirs, but like how do you think get up for another game like that? >> You got to get up for every game. It doesn’t matter who you play and any given Sunday. Any team could beat you uh if you get caught slipping. But, uh, like I said, it’s the vision of opponents. You know, they know us, we know them, and, uh, I think it’s on their mind, especially coming off of last year. You know, the way that they lost, you know, you want to kind of get back at the Eagles, but you have to go out there and execute. We know we’re going to get everybody’s best. Uh, from the Raiders to the Commanders to Dallas, it doesn’t matter who we play, we’re going to get everybody’s best. So, we have to go out there and make sure that we’re on a tip-top game. And when we do our jobs, it’s going to be very hard to beat. >> You were joking after the game uh, that you were hoping for joint custody with Brandon Graham. Do do you have custody this week? We got we still got custody this week with BG. Uh you know, he’s just like I said, he’s another bright face in the room and you know, B is just great with him and uh you know, we just enjoy as long as much as we can. We try to hold on to him, but uh BG man, like I wish I could have him in the room every year, every year, but you know, I’m just grateful for the time that we have now. >> Are you a fan of Nico’s new celebration? >> Come on, man. Come on. Anywhere I’m on the field, he does that, bro. I’m I’m I’m pulling that chain, man. Stop playing. But uh yeah, I’m a huge fan, man. And Nico’s balling out. Unbelievable level. And uh you know, it’s just like you said, man, he has a chip on his shoulder. And if y’all knew the stories that he has and the way that he plays and the edge that he plays with, y’all understand like the type of person that he is, the mentality he has play in the game. And uh you know, I’m just extremely excited just to see him ball out and play, man. Like that’s my guy. Like just football aside, that’s my dog. So you know, we always get excited for those guys. >> What’s it gone now without Jaylen Carter and everything? I mean, just the way you guys that kind of say surprise, but I mean you guys >> I wouldn’t say it’s a surprise. Um, you know, it’s just all hands on deck. It doesn’t matter. I, you know, god forbid, you know, anybody goes down, we want to make sure that we play at this high level still, you know. Um, I feel like, you know, it’s just the opportunity that we have. If you’re on the field, you can ball you. You’re confident. We trust you. And, uh, you know, we work, you got on the field for a reason. So, you have to believe it. You have to trust it. And we got the guys around us like no matter who’s in the game, we’re always going to support them. We always going to be up for them. Uh they make plays, we’re cheering as hard as they they are. Like we are just excited for them, man. BY has been playing at an unbelievable level. Um being really focused, being really technical, sound, and um you know, just to see them come out and just understand that and just play like that, you know, it’s really exciting for us. And uh like I said, all hands all hands on deck. All hands on deck. Was it was his presence, you know, felt on the sideline on Sunday because I know he wasn’t with you guys out in LA. Did you have him there even though he wasn’t playing that night? Were you guys able to communicate with him at all? >> Yeah, you know, u anytime Jaylen Carter is like like around, you know, we just feed off that energy. He’ll he feeds off our energy. But, you know, we can’t wait for him to come back. That’s the only thing we just waiting for is just come back and then we have a full a deeper room that we already have. But, you know, when he comes back, we just want to make sure he gets rest and, you know, recovery. That’s the most important thing. Do you ever kind of like reflect on the season you’ve had? I mean, you know, people mention you >> I wouldn’t say so. You know, reflection comes at the end. Uh we’re not even at the end of the season yet. So, um our reflection time will come later. Uh but for right now, we just keep chugging. Keep trucking. >> You had a very optimistic and I think it resonated with a lot of fans even um message especially when it came to the offense last week. How great was it, you know, seeing them put up 31 points? I mean, you guys on defense also attributed to a shutout, but seeing the offense put up 31 points, >> I would say from a defensive lineman’s perspective, it was so relieving because that was the quickest game that I ever been a part of. I’m sure that what was that, the second fastest game. Yeah. Like that’s anytime you get to do that in football, that’s amazing. Especially in a professional league. But um you know, it’s just it’s a belief thing. You got a boot. >> Nah, he dead. But like I was saying, it’s a it’s a belief thing. You got to have that belief. And uh like I said, man, whether you’re with us or you’re not, I’m still going to believe. I still trust him. That’s our offense. We can’t go nowhere without him. So, you know, um I’m just glad everybody’s kind of buying in again. Everybody’s kind of, you know, just excited about it. But like never wavering. Never wavering. I’m still here in the rain and shine.

  1. Jaelen P brings an interesting perspective to the team. It’s like that latest Maxx Crosby interview about playing in Philly, it is great to hear these guys really want to be a part of something

  2. This is how you win with Jalen hurts. Run the football. THis is how you win with a quarterback that doesn't care about personal stats you run the football. This is how you win with a very good defense you run the football. This is how you open the passing game you run the football. This is how you win with a big offensive line you run the football. This is how you win when you have three good running back and a full back you run the football. This team is built to be a dominate running team. Jalen Hurts said it best I don't care how it looks as long as we win. Eagles win when they run the football it's that simple

  3. Howie is building the future of the Eagles with all these guys and love the way it’s starting to shape up for the future …. Jordan Davis is the man love that dude and his energy always puts a smile on my face when I’m even have a bad day🦅🦅🦅🦅
