Houston Texans Are Suddenly In A Great Spot
All right. I’ve been talking about it for quite some time and now other people are starting to talk about it. National writers, things like that. Um, the Houston Texans are prone and probable and ready not only to make the playoffs, which we know, but make a Super Bowl run. When I look at the AFC, I don’t think there is a team that I would fear more than the Texans. I think their defense is so good that it’s more feared than the Bills offense. I think they’re more well-rounded. I I like just like the Broncos and and then I look at the other teams. We’ll get into that about what that looks like. But let’s first talk about what the Texans have done. And before we get into all of that and I’m going to talk to you about what um a national reporter, uh wellrespected one had to say in just a second. Before we get into that, if you are new to this channel, thank you so much for watching. My name is Craig. Me and my buddy Chris started this. Uh we are Detroit Lions fans. Yes, it is true. who we are. Uh we have another channel, Sports Talk Detroit. Love talking about teams that the national media ignores. The Texans fall into that. I got a brother-in-law in Houston, him and his wife, and uh just super excited to see what the Texans are doing. We’ve been covering this team for multiple years now before CJ Strad was even taking a snap. All right. So, anyways, with all of that being said, let’s first talk about what um NFL insider, an NFL insider had to say, and it is Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. And I’ll go ahead and I’ll I’ll let you see it. He goes, he’s talking about staying with the AFC. Give me the Texans for a Super Bowl run. They are nine and two in their past 11 games. Stout is back and playing good football. The defense might be the NFL’s most feared. Several teams I’ve talked to after playing Houston talked at length about that muscle bruising physical defense. The offensive line has settled down lately and wide receiver Nico Collins can take over a game. Much will depend on their draw. If the regular season ended right now, the Texans would be in New England in the wildard round. That’s a winnable game. All right. Now, let’s just not live in the generic uh world of Jeremy Fowler. Let’s talk about the Texans as a team that we know. I will go off of one of the things he talks about a muscle bruising physical defense. I love hearing that because it’s so easy to think about how they’re a finesse defense when you have just such good edge rushers, when you have those kind of things, but that’s not what it is. They absolutely punch you in the mouth. They beat you up and they beat you up front defensively and even after injuries, even on the interior, they seem to be holding up just fine. They have big hitters. We all know about that middle linebacker. I’ll show you here. Like, what are we talking about here? The guy like he’s on he seems like he’s on the cusp of getting a personal foul every single game. Um, he just plays with a different edge to him. One that works so well in a Demo Ryan’s defense. There’s no doubt about that. We’ve often talked about the defense, the offense as well. Um, the weapons are there, but I want to talk about other things that I think are even more impressive. Let’s pull up um right here what we talked about with the nine and two in their last 11. Quietly, the Texans have played some of the best football in all of the NFL over the last 11 games. They’re right up there with the Broncos. They are up there with the Patriots. They are up there with the Rams over on the NFC side and nobody else can say they’re playing better football right now. All right. And it’s impressive to say that they’ve won um nine of their last 11. It’s also really impressive to say that they’ve won six in a row, but what’s impressive to me is kind of who they’ve beaten. It started by blowouts of Tennessee and Baltimore. That was a non Lamar team. Then they had a closeish loss to Seattle. They beat a good San Francisco team. I understand. I understand quarterback stuff. I get it. All right. I do understand that. But for for for them then they barely lose to Denver without CJ Stout. Okay. They beat Jacksonville and Tennessee. They beat Buffalo without Stra. And now that they’ve come back, all they’ve done is beat Indie. And then this is the game, and I’ve talked about this on this channel before. That shows me something because we’re going to get into the playoff predictor here in a second. The win at Kansas City is huge because based on their record, yes, they’ve won nine of their last 11, but they started off losing three in a row. So, what that likely means is that they will be on the road in a cold weather environment at some point. Whether it’s at New England, whether it’s at Buffalo, whether it’s at Denver, okay, whe that those are the places that they likely will have to go and they might have to go to Jacksonville, but that’s not cold weather. But that’s only if they don’t catch the Jaguars before the playoffs start. So, I wanted to go here. This is on the athletic. This is a playoff predictor. Um, and what this kind of runs and does is it gives you what’s your chance of winning the game if they win and if they lose certain games. They do not have difficult games remaining. So, let’s say they go ahead and they win against uh the Raiders. They now have a 44% chance to host a wild card and a 55% chance just to be in the wild card. All right, 98% chance to make the playoffs. Let’s say they also um beat the Chargers. Now they’re in, but all of a sudden they have a 63% chance to host a wild card. And if they win out, they have a 75% chance to do that. Now, if they lose to the Chargers, the only thing that gets killed in that is the hosting of the wild card. Um that’s that has to do with tiebreers probably with Jacksonville and record against the AFC and things like that. Um that could that could hurt your chances a little bit. But even if they lose, look at this. If they lose two of their last three games, they have a 90 Watch this. Even if they lose two of their last three games, they have a 99% chance to make the playoffs. Isn’t that crazy to think about? 93 if it’s the one win is against the Chargers and if the one win against is against the Raiders, it’s 83%. Wow. Like that’s remarkable to me. So if they win one more game, they’re pretty much in. If they win two more games, they’re definitely in. If they win three more games, there’s a really good shot that they get to host a wild card. That to me is what makes the difference here. If they get to host a wildcard game, you never know what happens. I remember when uh the Detroit Lions made it two years ago. Like I said, I’m a Lions fan. We were 12 and five. We won the wild card. We hosted a wild card game and we beat the Rams. Well, the Buccaneers won as a road wildcard game or team. And so we were able to and and the Packers beat the Cowboys that year, too. So it was the 49ers hosting the Packers and then us hosting the Buccaneers. If you can get in to the the playoffs as a division champion, there is a shot that you get to host two games, which is huge. But again, I go back to the Chiefs game going to Kansas City in the cold. It showed this tough, physical defense. It showed that this entire team can be tough and physical. You have a quarterback that played at Ohio State. Your best wide receiver played at Michigan, right? Like in Nico Collins. Um Higgins on the other side, he played at Iowa State. These aren’t people who played in the warm weather climates. This is a team that also is built to travel and be in the cold. In fact, in some respects, I would say you traveling and being in the cold can almost be to your advantage the way your team’s put together. And against the Chiefs, and I understand the Chiefs have been losing games, and I understand that that win might not look as impressive as we originally thought, but it still is to go to Kansas City and win a game like that. Now, I understand the Chargers just did the same thing. Yours was actually more impressive. you have a team that pay attention because it could be big time when it comes to the playoffs. I will be rooting for the Texans. And everybody who’s talking to me is like what in the AFC? Like what are we talking about? And I keep saying I think the Texans have as good of a chance or a better chance out of any of the seven teams in the AFC. And it’s a perfect year in order to take advantage of it. You never know. You never know. All right. Thanks for watching. Year three team has learned year three in a row in the playoffs. They know how to get it done. While certain teams like the Broncos might not have as much experience, the Patriots do not have as much experience. Uh Chargers won game. Like I mean, you get what I’m saying? All right, thanks for watching. See you on the next one.
