Some outside views on the current state of the Giants and what they view (or fear) could change the results. Prevailing theme is that the roster has the talent and just needs the right coaching to unlock the potential. Thoughts?

  1. I do believe better coaching can optimize the roster, like better tackling, minimizing mistakes and having a better DC/staff overall, but I don’t think that’s enough to turn this defense into a top defense. Which should be the goal.

We need better CBs and LBs.

  2. I don’t see any value in the opinions of the people quoted in this article. But it’s obvious the Giants suck at self evaluation of both players and staff.

I think with the right coach the team has some potential but this isn’t a playoff roster just waiting for the right coach.

They need to find the right coach, add talent and develop the players they have including Carter and Dart.

Dart has shown enough that they don’t need to draft another QB this year but he’s far far far from a sure thing franchise QB. We have to wait and see how he develops and hope the situation around him improves. Jury is out.

  3. The team that’s kept the same nepo hires in the front office across 3 GMs and how many HCs while being a league laughingstock for over a decade doesn’t know how to self-evaluate?

  4. I think a realistic take on the Giants right now is they have a few really promising high upside or established players in key positions (O: Dart, Skattebo, Tracy, Nabers, Thomas, Johnson, D: Burns, Carter, Lawrence) but are much thinner in other areas than we expected, especially on defense. Its fair to say that with another strong draft and a coaching staff that can improve areas of the team that are lacking (specially middle of the defense, DT/LB/Safety/few more weapons for Dart), this team could go in the right direction quickly. Our next coach needs to get the most out of Phillips, Nubin, Adebo, JMS, etc. Guys that are on the fringe of being good players and have flashed but still disappoint far too often.

Its also a realistic take that if we whiff on the next draft and bring in a coach who neuters Dart like Joe Judge did with Daniel Jones, we could be the worst team in the NFL for the next couple of years.

I will say this – I strongly reject any narrative that Jaxson Dart is not the guy. I have watched a ton of football this year and Dart is already a guy I would take over probably 20 quarterbacks in the NFL. He is 11th in total QBR as a rookie and is as tough as they come at the position. He is the guy here, and any article questioning that immediately is bullshit.

  5. We need a coach and a long term FO…. There is a lot of apparent keepers, but that only matters so much until someone is running the team for 2026 and beyond

  6. I think every team in the NFL has NFL level talent. No team is ever more than 24 months from fully turning it around.

The issue here is the complete disconnect from our front office at all levels.

Schoen got some talented guys on the roster. I don’t think that’s a feather in his cap though, I think that’s the bare minimum of the job

He utterly failed in developing a roster that jives with his coaching staff and their overall vision. Hell our most successful season was Schoen’s first when we still had a roster filled with DG talent.

The coaching staff under Daboll was also a dumpster fire. Insane turnover year over year, lotta firings, lotta demotions, lotta mess in general.

I just think you keep firing until you get the right guy. The organization doesn’t have a firing problem. We fire loses pretty well. We have a massive hiring problem. We cannot find talented coaches and talent evaluators.

  7. Giants have a good core to build on but also some glaring holes due to letting the wrong guys walk, bad signings and most of all terrible drafting.

  8. The defense is a mess more than anything. Schoen bought big this season on key contracts and investments. None have worked out. Burns and Carter are good but the other 9 players (yes including Dex) are seriously bad this year. The linebacker room and safeties need a complete rework but you basically can’t do anything at safety besides hope coaching makes them better lol

  9. The expert panel seems to be one guy who works in the NFL, one guy who used to work in the NFL, and a bunch of bloggers and reporters.

  10. Bottom line is that this team should have 5, 6 more wins.

Injuries and coaching tanked this team this year.

    Period stop.

My god, the bullshit drama thats been swirling has been so fucking stupid. A bunch of sensitive cry babies everywhere, in the organization, in the media, in the fan base.

So many people in and around the organization need a legitimate reality check. Like holy shit.

  11. Why do fans get mad when analysts criticize the team? Fans in this sub say the sam thing but when other outside people say it blasphemy

  12. I find it inexplicable that the pass rush hasn’t dominated and outright changed the outcome of multiple games.

  13. The Giants have decent top end talent (Nabers, Burns, Thomas, still Dex) and some promising talent (Dart, Carter, Skatteboo). They do not have a lot of depth, especially at key positions. They are also devoid of talent at some key spots like the secondary and linebacker.

A big thing is struggling to develop talent. Nubin and Phillips both took a step back this year. Not a great sign.

Better coaching will improve the roster. They don’t feel far behind the league, despite the record.

  14. They are utterly talent deficient.

    They have 2 real players:

    Burns
    Nabers

They have one guy who is probably real but we need to see more:
    Carter

I’m done with Thibs. He is fine. Not a first round talent. I guess he is real, he counts.

Dart is a total wildcard. Very hard to tell without an oline or skill players.

Skattebo is fun but yall need to get real. He is mid at best. At RB if you don’t have a top 3-4 talent, you don’t have any value. All but the biggest superstars can be replaced by the 3rd best rb on any team.

Personally I think it’s incredible how competitive this shit team was.

Blaming coaching is well beyond idiotic. This massive pile of shit totally overachieved in terms of competitiveness.

They missed a big opportunity to dump burns at the deadline, it was the perfect opportunity to sell high and lay the groundwork for more depth.

  15. They’ve been lieing to themselves since the gettleman

This teams been in largely the same position since he helped ruin the team.

The top comment in here could be very slightly reworked and apply to a few times this last decade.
