Evan Neal on Being Designated for Return From IR | New York Giants

What what are you hoping for in March? >> Blessings, abundance, longevity, you know, uh being able to play football. >> Were you surprised that they opened the window here for the last 3 weeks? >> Um not really. I mean, Joe told me they were going to make the decision last week. So, uh it it didn’t come as to a surprise to me at all. >> You I assume like when did you start feeling better physically? Um, just the progression throughout rehab, you know, just building me up, ramping me up, getting on the field, running, doing this, that, and the third. And, uh, you know, Joe told me, say he’s thinking about opening up the window. I was like, okay, if you do that, hey, I’ll be ready. >> Was there a moment this season where it just kind of felt like, okay, not playing is just kind of weighing a little bit more on you than normal, I guess. >> I mean, I guess it’s safe to say that. I guess, you know, being a football player, it would feel unnatural for anyone in this league not to play. I mean, that’s that’s our job. obvious my job to play football and uh when I got put in a position to where you know I couldn’t do that I mean yeah it felt different but obviously that was something that was out of my control so I just kind of tried to you know just go inward you know just focus on Evan you know just focus on the things that uh you know I can do to continue to keep myself mentally strong physically strong and just you know ready for whatever’s next >> how different is your dayto day when you know that let’s say week to week you’re not having that opportunity how different is your dayto-day during a year like this when I was active, you were speaking. >> So, like you’re an elite athlete has always been active. So, in a year like this, how different is your dayto-day? >> You know what I’m saying? Whenever you were speaking like earlier on in the season where I was was active, >> correct? >> Yeah. Well, I was preparing as if, you know, I would be active every week. Um, you know, I wasn’t let known whether I’d be active or inactive. You know, usually a lot of times the day before the game or I’ll walk into the stadium and I’ll find out whether I’d be active or not if I had a jersey on my locker or something like that. So, I just prepared as if I’d be active. You know what I’m saying? I came in, I practiced hard, and I just did everything that I could do within the best of my abilities to go out there and play. And uh whether it be Friday, a Saturday night or a Sunday morning, you know, I pretty much find out, you know, whether I’d be playing or not. >> If you get a chance to go back in and play, >> do you have a preference of where you would play? guard, tackle. >> I mean, wherever they, you know, decide to line me up, you know, that’s what I do. I mean, if I get that opportunity, great. I mean, I don’t think anyone on offensive line is injured at this point, but, uh, like I said, I’m I’m I’m employed by the New York Giants, so I’ll do whatever they ask me to do at this point. Do >> you look at yourself in the future as one or the other? Like, how do you view it? >> I view myself I view myself as Evan Neil, a football player. I mean, I think I can do both. I mean, I’ve yet to play in a game this year, a regular season game at guard. I have more film at tackle. I mean, but I I think I can do both at this point. Um, I think it makes me more valuable, my versatility.

Offensive lineman Evan Neal speaks to the media Wednesday from the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.

  1. I really hope that Evan eventually is able to work out whatever the issues are and can, at some point, have a decent career in the NFL, be it with the Giants or elsewhere….

  2. How did the giants not trade guys like this and Thibodeaux for literally any future draft capital. FIRE JOE SCHOEN. He has done nothing with exceptional draft capital and free agency money for several years running. The proof is in the win column.

  3. Future burger flipper. This guy has been NOTHING but a waste of time, money and energy for the Giants. Cut this scrub and move on for crying out loud!!!
