The Grand Rapids Griffins are having a historic start
December 18, 2025
It doesn’t get old talking about it. We’re about 35% into the season. What’s the difference maker this year? I thought last season had a strong start, but this is some crazy level.

After the past decade, seeing the Wings leading the Atlantic and GR starting like this… I’m just waiting for the cameras to come out telling us our entire fan base has been punk’d.
Like, I don’t know how to process such success. It’s awesome.
.940 is unbelievable considering how many rookies Detroit took on this year. Is gonna be a good decade for us.
Me when I play every game for my AHL squad in NHL 26 to juice the development of prospects.
As much as Holl and Gus aren’t great in Detroit, they are good in GR and that’s definitely made an impact. (I’d say Holl has found his level and Gus could probably be on an NHL team somewhere but I digress.) I think good defense has helped the goalies’ confidence and when they’re confident, the team feels it and plays well.
Having those guys and other experienced vets has made a big difference. They also have to sit a few vets every game so they all seem to treat it like “next man up.” One guy is out, so another guy steps up. That makes them more versatile. If someone is out, they still play well since they’re used to playing with different lines.
I think it says a lot about the culture in the room, which I think says a lot about the coach. They were winning earlier this year by dominating teams, but sometimes now they’re winning just by grinding it out. They’re winning in different ways and if they’re down a goal or two, it always seems like someone is going to step up and get one. It’s been a lot of fun to watch.
Inject this hopium into my veins
It’s time to have the conversation, could the Grand Rapids Griffins beat the Calgary Flames?
I just want to apologize to everyone ahead of time. I’m going to the game tomorrow and I’m not exactly a good luck charm
Our future Red Wings 🥲
All of this WHILE Mazur, Lombardi, and Postava are injured. So much joy watching this team play every week.
Given we’ve graduated almost everyone, this isn’t the harbinger of hope it feels like.
Obviously this is great if Cossa is the real deal, and I hope MBN and Mazur or Wally or Ammo eventually make the show, but none of the latter are really carrying this streak.
