These Texans Backups Are Ready to Prove Themselves vs Raiders
Welcome into Texans today everybody. I’m your host Jeremy Chugs and coming up on today’s program, five Texans that I want to see get more run up against the Las Vegas Raiders. Cuz guys, let’s face it, I know it’s a trap game. I know what Demo said. I know what I’ve said. You have you have to, you know, take every opponent in this league and you have to give them respect. You can’t look down on them. You can’t say this is going to be an easy win. With all that being said, this is going to be an easy win for the the Texans team. I I hope, you know, I’m not, you know, looking too far ahead, putting the, you know, cart before the horses on this one. But I feel pretty confident going into this game because the Raiders, they want to lose. They have a chance to get the number one pick in the NFL draft this year. And the Houston Texans, they have a lot to gain. If they win out and the Jags lose this week up against the Denver Broncos, well then that means your Houston Texans can win the AFC South. And not only is a lot on the line for both teams, the Raiders with the loss, the Texans with the win, the Texans are also wearing the Battle Reds this week. So be honest with me, grade the Texans battle red jerseys ABCDF. This might be an unpopular opinion. I’ve said it on social media. My favorite jerseys is is when the Texans go all blue with their deep steel blue. These ones I think are are nice though. I’m going to give them a B+. My favorite ones are the all blue. But let me know, are the battle reds your favorite? Grade them down below in the comments section. All right, let’s get into some guys that I want to see get some more run against this Vegas team because like I said, let’s be honest, this could be a game where we see some of the backups play in the fourth quarter. Now, maybe not a backup. Maybe he gets a good, you know, share of the carries on Sunday. Jaward Jordan, who in his first NFL action this past week, did pretty well up against the Cardinals in week 15. 15 carries, 101 yards, that long carry of 50 yards, and he set a Texans franchise record for most all-purpose yards in your very first game. Shout out to you, Jaw Jordan. And I mean the the running chart show kind of shows just how electric he was and especially running those outside zone outside pitch plays. This one in particular the one that he took for 50 yards and you know he showed some pop. He showed whenever he had the ball in his hands he had some juice in those legs and it was very evident whenever he got in the ball game when he had the ball in his hands he was getting up field. he was getting north and south and being able to find those rushing lanes that were provided to him by this Texans offensive line. And you know, a lot of us might have been surprised at this. There was a couple Texans content creators, shout out to Stressins out there. I know he called it. He said he wanted to see more Jaward Jordan going all the way back into the preeason. But one Texans player in particular, this was not a surprise to and he had these comments to say. It was Kamari Lacier on Jaw Jordan after his massive game up against Arizona. This is what he had to say. I trained with Jaw in pre-draft training, just watching him train. He was explosive as hell. And I watched his film in college. He was taking kickoffs back, breaking 60 yard runs. So, I already knew whenever he got moving and grooving out there, I was like, “Yeah, yeah.” So, yeah. I mean, not only do we see the pop, the guys on the sidelines, the coaching staff, they noticed how good Jaw Jordan played up against the Cardinals. And in a game where, you know, you’re playing up against a team in the Raiders that, you know, let’s be honest, it helps them if they lose this game, might be a good opportunity to see, you know, was it just a, you know, one hit wonder or could this be a Jaward Jordan situation where he helps us throughout the rest of the season and maybe, you know, fingers crossed going into the playoffs and especially with the injuries that have already piled up for this Texans team. Woody Marks. Now, Demo Ryan said if he needed to go back into that Cardinals game, he could have if he wanted to, but he’s been uh dealing with an ankle injury these past couple weeks. And then Nick Chub, he was out this past week with a rib injury. So, if we could use this not as a by-week, I’m not going to say that because the Raiders, they have a lot of talented players on their team. Max Crosby is an absolute dog. They are a professional team and these guys are getting paid. This is their livelihood. But at the end of the day, if you could kind of give some of your guys who have injuries the week off or just, you know, give them less carries, that might be good on the long run, especially as we get into some meaningful football in January. Another guy that I want to see is Jaylen Null. And I know we see him all the time in the return game, and maybe we pair him and Jaward Jordan back there for kickoff returns because Kamari Lasser said it himself at Louisville. Jaward Jordan was great at returning kicks. for the Texans. Jaylen Null has been great at returning kicks. He had that 69 nice yard kick return up against Arizona this past week and he’s been awesome in the return game, punt return, kick return. He’s definitely offered a spark. He also has a Texans rookie record for most return yards in a rookie season. He has been awesome. Frank Ross has, you know, definitely been licking his chops. Has, you know, been able to have Jaylen Null in the return game. But on offense, we have barely seen null, right? The past four weeks, his snap counts kind of minuscule, right? 11 up against Arizona, which this is a little upsetting because, you know, the game, not that we had it surely in hand, but I would have liked to see more Jaylen Null snaps against the Cardinals. Week 14 up against the Chiefs, 25, but the Texans ran more offensive plays that week than any of these other weeks. So, kind of makes sense that he had a little bit more snap uh snaps up against Kansas City. Week 13 up against the Colts 18 and then week 12 up against Buffalo, he only had 17 snaps. And it’s, you know, it’s kind of weird because you see a guy and he’s electric open space with the ball in his hands. He makes plays happen and there’s so much untapped potential with null and he’s explosive in the return game. He you see the pop when the ball’s in his hands. Nick Kayley, Texans offensive coordinator. we got to figure this out. You know, in the beginning of the year, he tried working him in with trick plays, you know, jet sweeps, this, that, and the other. A lot of those didn’t seem to work out. That might have been along the lines of, you know, the offensive line wasn’t completely mesh, didn’t kind of gel together in the beginning of the season either, but it seems like we kind of went away from trying to, you know, use him as this gadget player, you know, use him in the offense at all. But we don’t have to just use him as a gadget player. I want to see him out there on the field more. I want to see him get more snaps and I know that might take away snaps from Christian Kirk, but in the long run, Jaylen Null, he can be a key part of this Texans offense. Him and Jaden Higgins both together show a ton of promise, both rookies from Iowa State. But, you know, he just hasn’t had the opportunity. So, I’d like to see him get that opportunity this week up against the Raiders. even if that means maybe getting Jaward Jordan some more kick return snaps instead of Jaylen Null so he can get some more offensive snaps this week up against Las Vegas. Another guy that I want to see more of, and we’ve actually seen a good amount of him over the past couple weeks is Blake Fiser. And you know, hand up, I was a big Blake Fischer maybe hater in the, you know, preeason. And, you know, maybe that’s on me, kind of giving up on him a little bit too quickly. But, you know, Blake Fischer, the former second round pick out of Notre Dame, has been making an impact on this Texans team even though he hasn’t been starting. the Texans, they use more six offensive line sets than anyone in the NFL. And he gets more action than a lot of, you know, backup linemen, which is good on multiple parts. One, it helps out protection and it helps the offense get more creative because they have had issues with, you know, picking up blitzes. But if you have six linemen out there, in theory, you should be able to pick up blitzes and really be able to protect CJ Strad, give him some time to dissect the defense back there. But also, it gives you an opportunity to see him on tape more, get more reps with Blake Fischer, and potentially have him be the replacement at right tackle for Trent Brown next year, you know, at any position moving forward. I want to see more Blake Fischer whenever the Texans drafted him. I know he was young, 21, turning 22 whenever they took him in the second round out of Notre Dame, but I I I’d like to see him more in the offense. I’d like to see him be utilized more and hell maybe even, you know, get creative with them. We’ve seen it before. The Texans did it with JJ Watt. Maybe you see him at some point line up as an eligible receiver, sneak him out in the red zone and get Blake Fischer a touchdown catch. I don’t know. I I think that might be a way to use him more creatively. He’s been out there on the field a ton. um I believe this past week had more than 30 snaps on offense for this Texans team, which you know, pretty good considering he’s not one of the starting five offensive linemen. But like I said, the Texans, they use those six offensive line sets more than anybody in the NFL. And it’s, you know, credit to Blake Fischer. I I was one person who dogged on him in the offseason. I didn’t see enough, you know, improvement out of him. But this year, steadily, I feel like he’s gotten better and better and better each week. And, you know, when he does bad, I, you know, pointed that out. And whenever he’s doing good like he is now, I think he deserves his flowers. And I think Blake Fischer, for one, deserves his flowers for how he’s played this year for the Houston Texans. Now, I think the offensive line’s improved this year. Like the video if you agree with agree with me because last year the offensive line absolutely abysmal this year. I think they’ve taken some steps in the right direction. I wouldn’t say they’re top half of the league just yet. They’re a top offensive line unit, but I would say much better than last year. Gardner Mchu filling in for the injured Patrick Mahomes up against the Titans. He didn’t look good in that last play up against uh the Chargers. And you know, the Titans, they might sneak a win up against Kansas City. So, give me the less on him. Trevor Lawrence going up against that really good Denver defense. give me the less on his pass yard. CJ Shroud up against this Raiders team. I’ll go the more on his pass yards. And then Philip Rivers up against the ners on Monday night. I’ll go less on his pass yard. You can use my lineup or go ahead and make your own. Just do it over on Prize Picks today. It’s good to be right. All right, next guy up. I’m gonna go with Jamal Hill, linebacker. And we’ve seen a lot of Jamal Hill in special teams. And you know, the past maybe like four weeks leading up to this Cardinals game, he was inactive for a lot of them. He’s been dealing with injury, but first game back up against Arizona and he made maybe the play of the game up against the Cardinals. The Texans, they scored early. And then on the ensuing kickoff, Jamal Hill goes down like a just bullet out of a cannon and just goes and dislodges the football, forces the fumble on that Cardinals kickoff that really kind of sprung the Texans early and then they never relinquished that lead. So Jamal Hill, big big play by him, but we don’t really see him that much on defense. Now EJ Speed right now for this Texans team is injured. He missed this past game up against the Cardinals. So maybe they try to, you know, work in some other guys. We saw some Christian Harris, some Deon Clark, some Jake Hansen, but we didn’t see any Jamal Hill on defense. And, you know, Deone Clark, he let up that one of the touchdowns to Trey McBride and was a waiverwire pickup from the Cowboys earlier in the season. But Jamal Hill, a late round pick out of Oregon a couple years back, I want to see his development. I want to see him out there a little bit more. And maybe if the Texans get a comfortable lead, we see Jamal Hill kind of line up at linebacker and, you know, see if he can make some more plays for this Texans defense. But, you know, don’t even take it from me that the Jamal Hill fumble uh force fumble was one of the biggest plays for the Texans up against the Cardinals. Maybe listen to Demo Ryan cuz he said the same thing about that forced fumble. It was one of the most important plays of the game and our keys to victory for our special teams was take the ball. We saw a couple times where the returners were loose with the football. We saw an opportunity there for us to take it away. And you know, easier said than done, but it’s pretty cool to kind of take a look behind the curtains of this Texas team had seen that the Cardinals return guys did not carry the football with a lot of security and they were like, “Let’s just go out there and target it. See if we can get a fumble.” First kick return. They force a fumble up against Arizona. But, you know, we did see some of the backups, some of the other guys kind of sub in for this Texans team, especially with EJ Speedout, Christian Harris got a good amount of snaps, 33 up against Arizona. Jake Hansen and Deone Clark each got three. Um, but no, like I said, no defensive snaps for Jamal Hill. So, I’d like to see, you know, especially, like I said, if the Texans do get some of their backups in, I’d love to see Jamal Hill go out there and show his stuff because, as Demo said, he made one of the biggest plays up against Arizona this past week in special teams. So, I’d like to see what he can do on the defensive side of the football as well. Lastly, and I’m going to cheat on this one. I’m going to go with the safety depth for this Texans team because I I don’t know what the Texans are going to do necessarily moving forward because this is probably my biggest area of concern for this Texans team going into January, going into the last, you know, couple games of the NFL regular season. What will the depth look like? And will they sign anybody significant? I don’t really think they will. Um, you know, multiple guys have, you know, reached out saying, you know, I want to play for the Texans defense. Justin Simmons has, Tyron Matthew has. This Texans team has not seemed interested. And Jaylen Reed played really well. The rookie out of Penn State, but he got injured. He got put on uh short-term IR and will likely, you know, expected to return at some point. People close to Jaylen Reid reached out to me and, you know, I I said on Twitter, second time on IR, it looks like he’s out for the season. They said, “No, no, no. Jaylen Reed, he’s going to try to come back and play this year. So, that’s a good sign for this Texans secondary. But, I want to see some of the other guys. You know, Miles Bryant got most of, if not all the snaps at uh the other safety spot alongside Kalin Bulock. But besides him, you know, Kavon Wallace, what will he look like? A couple guys that the Texans, you know, claimed off of waiverss, maybe Jammarus Ingram, will he make an impact at some point in this Texans secondary? I want to see what that rotation looks like at the safety spot. And then another guy who is a massive question mark. I talked about him in my show just the other day, Jimmy Ward. He has not appeared in a game this season dealing with a foot injury, also legal issues outside of uh the facility. So, I want to see, you know, what the Texans have as backup safeties if need be because, you know, the secondary, you know, one of the best in the NFL, but if a couple of those guys go down, if there’s injuries that happen, it could quickly turn into, “Wow, we don’t really have anybody on the back end.” That’s all I have for you on today’s show, folks. While I love the idea of Jordan playing, i think fisher could be a bad move. The idea of giving Blake some reps it great but the raiders dline isn't that bad. And if this season has tought us something then it's that CJ needs a solid blocking upfront.
Reds
A big F especially those annoying looking helmets. they have to be annoying to the players shining their eyes
We’ve seen Blake fisher brother it doesn’t look good
Like the glasses, good stuff as always
S+ for Battle Red

Don't forget Texans had a 0-3 start with a hurt CJ ✅
GO TEXANS!!!
Trent Brown basically saved the season
Battle Red is Great but the new white Jerseys are fire.
im concerned with DL depth
Shoulda saved the battle red for the colts last game of the season.
Nick Caley is gonna run 26 straight up the middle, just watch
Battle Red > HTown Blue > Liberty White > Deep Steel
I want to see Jalen Noel his compadre that running back that ran his ass off last week I want to see all this young talent we have out there builder confidence up build their experience up
I would love it if they put the battle red jerseys on top of white pants and the red helmet

One game at a time.
I'd like to see Graham Mertz get some playing time.
