NHL Highlights | Maple Leafs vs. Capitals – December 18, 2025

been all that happy with the way his team has been executing with the puck. I think both these teams are motivated bunchs to try to refine their game. Bobby McMahon got back onto the third line in the third period of that comeback win against Chicago and starts tonight with Nick Wamp and Dakota Joshua up against Alexander Ovkin, Dylan Stro and Anthony Boilier back on the top line. Here’s here comes Matthews gaining the lines. swings it across to Tvaris. Back up top for Riley looking for the stick of Matthews deflecting to the corner. Along the boards, it’s Tvaris. Matthews able to scoop that for Ny. Back to Riley as Knander available. Down low it goes. Matthews takes a look. Gets it back to Riley. What timer and Logan Thompson under a half minute remaining in the first power play of the game. Doy’s in. And here’s Nick Wall with a look. A hook back by Cowan to Ecman Larson. Far side do back to Ecman Larson. You know pressure here from Washington and a pass is intercepted. A CHANCE off the goal post. What a chance that was for Sunny Milano. And now a penalty. >> Then Milano coming off the bench flying down the middle creates that opportunity. >> Tom Wilson for Conor Mcichael. Stro gets it back to the line and one-time. OH, VETKIN misses from his spot and he doesn’t usually do that as he kind of idles in center now. Milano brings him in. Entry’s been an issue for this power play. They need up the post. LOOSE IN FRONT. >> A few shifts on this power play and you know, you know where he’s going to be. You know where the pass is going, but man, he still gets it. What a save there by Hill to be coming across. Here’s the second one off. He goes after it. Stro got there first. Off Wilson to check and now Stro working down. He’ll he’ll fire it. He’ll be got a piece of that in behind the net and it’ll be sort of with the puck and he gets it back. Firing that and it’s blocked by McCabe. Leaf’s leading shot blocker comes across right on again. Back to Doy. Wah parked in front. It’ll be Max Doi once again looking across and Cowan trying to one-touch that back door to Wah kept alive and Larson sends it back across >> and Du Hane with a chance to move it ahead and here comes a break and Dennis Hillby with Fervari coming out of the box makes the stop. Yeah, about what 60% of them from right there. >> And Dean puts it on off the goal stick of Hillby and out. Working in sort of Edmonson Oil King. Tom Wilson crashing in there up against Knives. A couple of big power forwards. Now a shot from the point knocked out IN FRONT AND A CENTERING PASS SCORES. tipped in by Alexi Prutus. Could be aggressive here. You got just a puck battle on the wall. One by the Washington Capitals, but here that never quite gets to him. Does a great job of at least stopping the play from Sordi. But on the doorstep, Cronis gets inside position on Oliver Ecman Larson. You can see Larson lost control or lost sight of where the puck was for a split second and boy that hit >> relief in deep but Cowan comes up with it. ROBERTSON A CHANCE IN FRONT. DVARZ AND Logan Thompson has got that back check against Ovetkin does a nice job of joining here. Defers to Dvarz. Thompson able to make the save. Back on his offensive game in deep is he’ll play it back to Mcichael covering the point. LOOSE IN FRONT. SCORES. Chicken plays the carol and now he’s got 13 on the year from the back end. A p inch down the one side by this is just a shot to an area that Mcichael puts and you got some lively dasher boards here that’s hard for Hill to be he didn’t read how quickly that came off but your responsibility on that side is to get inside on chick read it the leafs are out McMahon on a solo venture trying to get to the net and one hand that on goal McMahon >> like is usually very effective in this matchup. >> He has scored in four of the five games he’s played against Washington. Puts that in front of the net. Joshua looking for a loose puck. Takes it away from Sandine. >> Out comes Washington. Tom Wilson who’s terrific penalty killing plays it on Hildabby. That might be one reason he does make team Canada. 98. They combined together for 10 goals and I’m guessing none were on the power play. >> Yeah, look at the look on his face even when he was saying it how much he despised them and that’s really NHL hockey. You play so hard against shift gears on Matt Roy playing it to the net and Thompson kicked that away with Tavaris door crashing >> and it’s taken away here by Robertson. Would have even come anywhere close to attempting that kind of confident play. That’s good progress. Here’s Mcichael looking across that shot right on and held by Hilderby. Turns it over and now it’s Nick Wah back in. Here’s Wah at the point. The shot into that catching glove of Thompson. You know Oette’s not going to play forever and you got to fill him up. Back the other way. Here’s a chance and Bilier stopped on the play. Knander knocks it down along the boards. the centering pass. N unable to come up with that. Bronus back the other way. Tom Wilson digging in. His hot shot. Stopped by Hildy. That was a minute 38 for N. And he still was able to get there. How did he have anything left in the tank? >> Back the other way comes Washington. Sunny Milano IN HOLDING PASSING AND A BIG STOP. Hill off >> here. How about the patience of Milano twice looked like he was going to shoot and right on the doorstep. What a read there by Hildabby. He anticipated that maybe >> Eastston Cowan in dropped off. Robertson kicked away by Thompson. Robertson along the end boards. Tavarz looking for a loose puck. Chisum tangled up there for Washington. They’re going to play on here as Cowan was after the puck deep and it’s turned over. HERE’S LOCK. A BACKHAND STOPPED BY THOMPSON. CLICK. Nick Law had it taken away. Mcichael holds the zone. POVICHKIN AGAIN AND Hilderby the stop loose in front. MCICHEL MISS THE TARGET out in front and still alive. Mcichel again. Hilderby another stop after that. Keeping this a twogoal game. Some anxious moments in front. Great chance here. Just missed on the back door and Stetcher able to clear it once. But how about this save? No stick on his knees. Able to twice in the last 13 games. I I mean 30 isn’t even a huge number. And it’s something you have to have that shot first mentality. >> Worked it ahead, but Dow takes over. Right back in for Washington. A pass back to Chickan and he bumped that across. It’ll come out and Caps have to escape the zone. Chron’s going to take it in himself. SCORES. WOW. Jacob Chan doubles down on the night. Wow. You talk about a shift here for Chicken the line and challenge. Look at how much time here. Just a soft pass across goes, I got nobody to pass it to. And that’s just a lane by Ben Mo. Got gapped into the middle of the ice. So just took what was given to him. I mean this is a nothing play that should be dead and all of a sudden he’s in from inside the dot and just >> Allen taken down. Washington won the draw. They break out. Here is Sort of trying to get to the net. Swept that across the BLUE PAINT. HOT SHOT. Did that go in? It did. Top corner. John Carlson. And that Washington blue line has lit it up again tonight. And you say, “Okay, can you find something positive?” You got your top line offensive zone faceoff and 9 seconds later it’s in the back of the net. Just look at the inability to close the gap there by Oliver Eman Larson. A little swoop down low and John Carlson just walked into that one. Hilde has Wilson in front of him. Can’t read where that shot is and it goes up and under the bar. >> What a shot. Wow. 94.7. Look at this Caps team. Suddenly they couldn’t a five nothing loss, a 51 loss in their previous two. And they’ve found their rhythm and their offense. Oh boy. off of the pipe. Here’s that weave by Cherin over the line through two sticks there. Might have got a piece of the stick of Ben and back the other way is Milano. Holding on to this. Capitals are going to blank Toronto. And Luca Thompson has registered his second shut out this season, eighth of his career.

akob Chychrun continued his impressive season with a pair of goals, and Logan Thompson made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Washington Capitals defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0.

  1. This is worst team I can remember. Yep… leafs management really F'd up by 1. trading marner and 2. Making Mathews the captain. An entitled rich American punk can NEVER again have that C. The leafs need to give it back to Johny Toronto where it damn well belongs. And then, trade that weak powderpuff, easily facewashed and intimidated, uninspired, one trick pony, who suffers from a lack of anything resembling leadership skills, grit and toughness Mathews. He never had the room, never WAS captain material, and never will be.
Then after he is traded, fire treliving for some of the stupidest decisions in team history, and Berube for being utterly ineffective and an out of touch 1980s dinosaur of a coach who nobody listens to anymore. BEGONE I SAY. ALL OF YE!!

  2. That was a horrible game tonight. First the Capitals made the Leafs blow a 2-0 lead and now thet get shutout by the Caps. The Leafs did not deserve to get shutout by the Washington Capitals tonight. Also, Logan Thompson's shutout, totally undeserved

  3. Another Lost For The Maple Leafs After They Won Against The Chicago Blackhawks Last Game!!!! Leafs Played Horribly And Were Not Good!!!! They Need To Be A lot Better After Getting Shoutout!!!! Good Win For Washington And Good Game Caps/Capital Fans!!!!🐻‍❄️🍁🤝🏒🦅✌️

  4. Reilly shoots the puck like he is passing it to the opponents goalie. Mathews has obviously checked out on the leafs.
If they can’t motivate him to okay better or if glee don’t want to be a leaf. Trade him for a package of players that will help win because as of now I don’t think it make much f me difference I they made Mathews a healthy scratch. He’s been floating hard

  5. When the PooPoo Jays traded away Ryan Goins a few years ago, I emailed their head office that I hope that they finish dead last every year until eternity and I hope the same for the Loser Leafs/Maple Losers for letting The MITCHelin Man MARNER go while keeping the injury prone Yankee Doodle POOdle Captain Useless Matthews.

  6. Tom Wilson 100% deserves to play for Canada. His pk is one of the best in the NHL right now and he strikes utter fear the hearts his opponents despite his mostly good behaviour of late. I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't make the team. I hope Mathews plays for team USA🤣

  8. BOYCOTT NOW BLOW IT UP ON A ROLL LOSING AGAIN YAHOOO!!! WHO Cares THIS TEAM SHOULD BD REMOVED GROM.THE NHL BLOW IT UP NOW BOYCOTT WORSE TEAM EVER SEND BERUBE BACK TO THE BLUES AND BLIS IT UP NOW BE LIKE THE PENS LOSE 7 IN A ROW!!!
