Holy shit…that actually sounds like a player development plan.
I mean that sounds like actual logic
Oh, stop it with a reasonable plan and explanation of a process.
Those do not go well here
His point about him being close to the NHL, but that it is foolish to bring him up for only a limited 4th line role is rather obvious.
I don’t agree with his world JR point though. If he is that good, let him go to worlds and dominate. Missing a few weeks of AHL hockey isn’t going to ruin him
Helenius should go if he wants to. Winning gold there is an important part of the career to many players.
“It’s pointless to take a player of his level here to play in the fourth line for eight minutes in the game and then think that it didn’t really look very good.”
Now why would anyone think logically like this?!
Seems like an educated decision and nice bonus that Jarmo is a fellow Finn.
Making normal and logical decisions consistently might not be enough to win a cup, but it will get you into the playoffs in this league. Keep up the good work Jarmo
Guys…I’m excited for the future!
Jarmo gave a great response here. Helenius is playing great hockey down in Rochester and has now played has ~90gp in the AHL with two Juniors tournaments worth of experience. How much more can he get in going back to that tournament largely filled with 17-19yr old junior players?
Unless Helenius really wants to play in the tournament then keeping him in Rochester is a logical development plan.
One of the Sabres’ biggest issues throughout the drought is the inability to have young players assimilate into the league without being thrown into big roles. One of the best positions for a club to be in is to have prospects breaking down doors to get into the league. Helenius is making a case, whether this year or next, that when he comes to Buffalo full time he’s here to stay.
